‘Downright disloyal’: Bronwyn Bishop brands Cricket Australia ‘un-Australian’

Former speaker of the house Bronwyn Bishop says she doesn’t consider Cricket Australia players “Australian” in light of comments made by boss Nick Hockley.

Ms Bishop’s comments come as Cricket Australia CEO Nick Hockley rushed to clarify his remarks over whether Australia Day will be mentioned during the upcoming Gabba Test, after previously saying he “didn’t believe” announcements about the national day would be playing over the Test over loudspeaker.

“Firstly, I don’t consider them to be Cricket Australia,” Ms Bishop told Sky News Australia host Sharri Markson.

“They are a group of people playing cricket in our country.

“There is nothing Australian about anything any of them have said; in fact, it’s downright disloyal.”

  1. Aboriginal people were granted the rights to become Australian citizens in 1948 which is great, but its not like they had a massive choice in the matter or given the opportunity to give any solid input of their own into the process.

  2. I love the way you aussies believe all the AUSTRALIA DAY bolloX, it's so quaint and endearing. Completely naive, but cute as hell.

Especially when you consider it in the context that you have runaway from every major conflict in the last 50 years with your tails between your legs and with Uncle Sam by your side.

You celebrate defeat with rhetorical jingoistic bullshit and then award medals to all insundry like toys from a lucky dip.

Over the last three years you have clapped and cheered, as your cowardly security forces inflicted all manner of crimes on your old folk, yet you still don't understand the paradigm of LORD OF THE FLIES…….white feathers all round to you all from this old soldier.

I wish I had never donned a uniform or defended the Commonwealth

  3. How does Steve price know if Pat has been "lectured to" regarding the decision he has made?
That is an absurd attack on Pat and you could at least give Pat the benefit of the doubt Pricey because that's just pure hypocrisy from your end and if ya don't have anything worthwhile to say about someone, then keep your opinions to yourself.
I can tell when someone is being genuine and Pat is a very special human being with a good heart unlike some people who have immediately come out like a pack of wolves attacking his integrity and bombarding this poor man with hateful and Un-Australian comments.
You know who you are and shame on you!

  4. Right all you fair dinkum Australian men and women it is time to show this woke Cricket Captain and Cricket Bosses, we do not need their input on how to think of Australia Day and the pride we have in this day, We are aware that the some indigenous activist and their supporters, ie the big money side of town and sports teams need to suck the pencil of the socialist and communist side of money tree. Look at what they are doing to Carrie Lake in USA, here is another prime example, people have been brought and paid for by big money. So Australians stand up we are now are boycotting Woolworths, lets include the australian cricket team as well. I am asking you not to attend any games that the australian cricket team is playing in, unless he as the guts to apologize to the Australian public about moving the Australia Day date, which we all know is the creep and first step in cancelling this prideful day to Australians Cummins you are a traitor, a try hard politician, have you been brought? we all though you were our cricket capt.

  6. If Cricket Australia really wants celebrate Australia day
Why ot add some indigenous talents into the team

Theres many who play the game, such a hard bastion for many to get into,
Sure at times we have recently seen diversity in the Australian Cricket team but not as much as one could argue🎯🇦🇺

    Practice what you preach
Surely theres enough merit in many a player in Australia which warrants notice.

  7. Going to highschool the amount of racism against aboriginal people was astounding and widespread.
I was told things that I only later found out was untrue and belittling and I had to read up about it or be told.
After reading through comments in regards to Oz day I see the same slurs and stereotypes being used in support of their views for this day. Do I think much has changed, well I'll be honest with you and say no , it's getting worse.
That's why I believe changing the date will make people reflect on their views and be challenged to confront them once and for all.
