6 Ways your fearbrain can try to sabotage your healing

In this video I’m going to talk about 6 ways your fearbrain can sabotage your healing (because it wants to protect you). Understanding your fearbrain and working with it instead of against it, will help you so much in your healing proces!

The Healing the Fearful Avoidant program will be launched in the end of this summer 2022 (August). The program has a foundation and several tailormade pathways that will guide you through your healing process. I cannot wait to go on this journey with you! Put your name on the waitlist and we’ll keep you informed (see description below)!

  1. Oh so happy a new video has come out! Thank you! Keep doing what you’re doing Paulien, you’re helping so many people heal with your awesome niche way of contextualising everything as a fearful avoidant that has healed. Thank you ❤️ love from Australia

  2. how amaizing, you did this on purpose?
at the very start of the video, the picture was a bit blurred, and at the same moment you started the sentence: "you have to focus", the picture caught the focus of you and it sharpened 🙂

  3. A few weeks ago, during a moment of doubt/ panic, I wrote in my journal, speaking to my fear brain, comforting it. Letting it know, I understand it's trying to protect me, I thanked it for the time it has helped me in the past, and assured it, it can rest now. It helped a great deal. Don't scold your fear brain, comfort it. Chances are, it's that scared inner child, after all. I wouldn't have had the wherewithal to do this without Paulien Timmer! And this is without the program! Just wait until August!

  4. I relate to number 6! Lastly I just wanted to add another kind of fear brain sabotage that I deal whit personaly.
It's like I'm afraid to enter a relationship because I think I'm to screwed up & I will let the other person down. So I want to protect them from me & my screwed up self. If I do try to enter a relationship I often try to surpress my anxietes but then my fear brain makes me worry that I'm not being autentic & is fooling the other person. It's like I'm wrestling whit my fear brain which makes it so tiring & overwhelming that I burn myself out in the process. And there goes that relationship..

Anyway I just meet a guy that seem to understand & is fine whit my struggles & it made me sooo reliefed you have no idea.. Yet I still feel anxiety & restlesness about it, I try to calm myself down this very moment.

  5. Dear Paulien, how is it that the more you say "you are not broken or defective etc.", the more broken and defective I actually see myself and the more depressed I get? Is this just only a fearbrain thing? I think an episode about 1. huge guilt towards our partner for causing them all these problems being FA and wasting their time 2. how to stop feeling broken beyond repair after realizing we are FA would bring some relief to people like me. Thank you for your great work 🌹

  8. Paulien, can you please, please make a video on dissociation. How to have a more coherant sense of self… You know that disorganised attachment is precurrsor for dissociation. Thank you for your work!!

  9. As a FA I have now become much more aware of the strange strategies that I have employed over the decades to keep myself safe from romantic relationships. First, I tend to have relationships with women that I'm not really strongly attracted to, as I would be terrified if I had to chase and date a woman that I really, really liked. I can't even imagine it! Second, I tend to have very many women friends, not usually in a romantic sense, but as friends, because this is the best option I have for at least having some kind of close relationship with women. Third, if I do have a romantic relationship, it is often of the "friends with benefits" sort, so that I reduce the level of investment and commitment, so that I do not risk getting hurt. I think I'm a very strongly traumatized FA so I'm not too optimistic that I can ever really trust another person and actually fall in love properly. And now I'm almost too old.
