Watching this as someone who’s developing schizophrenia, its really odd because the feeling I get from these places is exactly how I feel when in an episode. Like I’m in a place I’m not ment to be, surrounded by people and things that don’t exist. That’s what it’s like for me a lot, it’s different for everyone. Amazing video

I remember going to college early in morning when there was nobody there and I loved walking around the empty halls by empty classroom most places lit some not or dimly lit lol just got off of work and were the only place left open in our area so you look everywhere and all the other stores are abandoned and the parking lot abandoned and sky is all black not many stars up there so weird it was like one time I left early in morning cause I wanted to get down town and see the sun rise lol never did it before but dang got down towards almost downtown its all abandoned no cars everything dark but there's lights on here and there u kept looking around making sure there was nobody else around so wired lol also one movie you didn't mention was Halloween that had some liminal spaces like the Myers house when they walking around in it even looking at it from outside so weird its been abandoned for fifteen years lol plus by the end when Michael is stalking Laurie she's screaming for help but there's no help nobody around only one house hears her and they ignore her its like the town is deserted and she's alone with this madman and the shots at the end with him breathing empty spaces where he could be at lol the second rib zombies Halloween starts with Laurie walking around in the middle of town but its empty in the middle of night lol empty roads lol just seen yesterday A tour of the wb lot they were tearing down houses used in lots of movies but only that guy was there he even says he's walking down the middle of the street and feels like he should get out of the road cause of cars but no cars empty roads houses crazy all gone lol
I live in a cold country, and there are alot of indoor activities> to me, there is almost a subgenre of liminal spaces where things are indoor out of nessessity but that people try to make it look like you’re outdoors.

Sorta hit me and made me sad,
I always wondered, what would of happen if I was ever gone or didn’t exist? Would people miss me? Or would people be glad, I was gone from school for a week and when I came back and asked my friends if they missed me, but didn’t get a reply, even one friend was disappointed that I was back.
Liminal spaces are just the photos that you take on the roll of film by accident so they aren't of anything. Y'all are just drama queens making this existential nonsense out of fun outsider photography and some stuff that people threw together in photoshop which is actually a totally different thing. Its cool, but like, iceberg? For an hour? C'mon ain't nobody got time for that. What's next? A 12-hour tier list?

love how liminality of a picture either hits real hard or just completely misses. because they often basically region locked.
For me when I play video games I used to play as a kid that supported online features, lets say, call of duty, minecraft etc, I logged onto an empty cod world at war video game i used to play online with friends after school hours, I walked around said server for a few minutes, I wasn't expecting to see anyone, I did get nervous, and worried I was gonna get killed from somewhere though, but it'd never happen. Same with logging on an old minecraft me and friends would log onto after school on split screen or multiplayer, such a weird feeling of something is there, but something isn't.
Weird, come to think of it. I would always feel slightly off after playing Mario 64 as a kid for hours in the dark when I was younger…a similar feeling to a horror movie, but could never pinpoint it. Also come to think of it: I don't remember experiencing that with any other game.
The most terrifying liminal space I've ever seen was my dog's empty little bed the day after he passed away at age 12, seeing that he wasn't there no more and that soon that spot on the living room would be empty forever destroyed me
52:20 Hey! This is a puppet from the "Giant Parade", an art project showcased at Valley View Center Mall, Dallas, TX. The mall is now demolished and the puppet was bulldozed along with the mall, and I'm presuming that this was taken after the mall declared it's out of business. The puppet is a representation of the greatest botanist of all time, Julien Reverchon. This puppet was popularized by the new series created by Kane Pixel, "The Oldest View". He's not all that scary when you see him out parading with the other giants, though.

49:00 I was in a situation like this in 2020, coming back from Houston. It was the middle of the night and I was less than an hour from home, driving through Tropical Storm Cristobal. Low fuel light came on, and I pulled out of the darkness into a well lit gas station in the middle of nowhere. Nobody for miles and miles… Except the clerk, still working in the middle of the night, in the middle of nowhere. He was friendly, at least. It felt like a nice reprieve before diving back into the dark maelstrom outside, with home just sixty more miles away.
This explains my fear of Gmod, large bodies of water, that SpongeBob episode where squidwards alone, the emptiness of spy games, the game Myst scaring me makes sense. It all just came together in this video. Its just interesting how early I can remember having these eerie feelings

Liminal Space photos are kind of like checkpoints to see how far you've come and just give you that feeling of " theres so much to do and to go what do i do" feeling and sometimes looking at some of them can make you feel like this extremely extremely tiny person in a huge world with an infinite void waiting for you there's only one thing you can do and it's like you're stuck there forever and you're never getting out you don't know where to go where you are or how to get out you're stuck and you just have to accept it

Can liminal space be your personal hell? You are in a place that seems familiar, somewhat not complete and keeps you at ease but you still feel weird and somehow you know something is coming for you.
I like hearing a liminal space perspective from someone who isn't American because I've already heard what a lot of my fellow Americans have to say about them. Some of the points you made had me going. Ah yes. Never thought about it that way. It's always nice to hear about horror topics from people not from the same places as me or people different from me. It gives opportunities for more scares.

i think the key elements that make scary a liminal space are:
– presence of dark entries/corners: since we are all preventing a scare jump, the most probable source of a presence coming off out of nowhere comes from here.
– absence of people: all is more terrifying when we dont know if there is more people out there, but is even more terrible if we know by a fact that nobody is there and the only thing that could come of here is not a human entity.
– absence of animals/nature: animals are not seem since the liminal spaces wants you to feel alone. usually the more scariest liminal spaces dont even contain nature pieces like grass or
– "forms" that recreate a monster: this is when they just want the place to be scary more than liminal. the worst of this figures is that they dont contain a scary entity itself, but they are unmovable objects that recreate a scary figure.
– the places are more empty of objects than usual: not only absence of people, but the minimal composition of objects in the liminal space makes you feel even more alone. places usually feel empty of the usual objects.
– the fact that we are in human made structures is what makes us realize that there is or there was another men there too. but we cant see them.
in conclusion, what makes the liminal spaces creepy is their recreation of a space where are you forced to feel completely alone; but then, i think no human has ever felt totally alone in our complete lives. the more close to that feeling is when you are home alone. the fact that we usually spend most of the time in contact with other people, animals and objects (not even interacting with them but always feeling their presence) makes ourselves feel that when you are alone, that is gonna change soon and somebody will be there. that makes our head think of when and where we are gonna meet another source of life, and the fact that in liminal spaces there is not a proper reason to be other people makes me feel panic that the only thing that can be there is a spirit.
note that not all liminal spaces contain all of this elements, bc we yet have to consider that a liminal spaces also tries to make you feel safe. they usually use elements like
– nature: consider that the "pool backrooms" feel relaxing at some times and it also probably comes from the water and the serene sound that it makes. also the grass and sky in some liminal spaces makes us feel more confident.
– a light corner/bright colors: the colors and light also makes the picture less creepy. since we have light we can see what we have in our area and then feel more safe.
– feels like a dream: the only fact that destroys the panic of feeling alone or trapped in a liminal space, is knowing that the place isnt real. then we understand that there is not a risk, and we can archieve to explore the entire place (or wait there until it finishes).
my definition of a liminal space is a recreation of a place where you feel lonely, what makes you feel scared; but also with some elements that make you feel safe. this variant composition of elements is what makes a liminal space different from the others.
I love Bo Burnham’s inside. It has some amazing music, but also some realy disturbing and over all liminal as you could say it shots.
