The tinfoil hat returns at last in 2024! With Total War Warhammer having quite the busy looking future looming ahead, now would be a good time to see if we can glean some sort of future for specific factions that many would say are long overdue for updates! Today we’ll begin with none other than Norsca, everyone’s favorite collection of monsters and berserkers. What might Creative Assembly be able to do with them going forward?

  1. Additional Notes:

    Sayl the Faithless originates from the Dolgan Tribe. Although he rides a Chaos War Mammoth in the lore, he unfortunately wasn't allowed to for Tabletop games which is dumb. He also unique can choose from the Lores of Shadow/Heavens so giving him that as a mixed lore would make him SUPER unique which is awesome.

    Also Nightmaw is a durable chaos spawn with strong missile resistance and regeneration.

    Giant Spined Chaos Beasts also would be a fairly swift monster that has Regeneration and Melee Damage Reflection (thanks spikes). They also can take Marks of Chaos if CA wanted to bother with that.

    Fenbeasts would be regenerating Monstrous Infantry with Aquatic and potentially other rules like Frenzy or Fly-Infested Rotweed (which is bonus Missile Resistance and Cloud of Flies, basically)

    Fimir Nobles are also known as Fimir Fianna but I don't think that sounds as "Lordly"

    Curs'd Ettins ALSO have Regeneration (good grief) and can run abilities like Gibberer to further debuff nearby Leadership and Scaled Horror which makes them deal AoE damage to enemies in combat as their acidic blood sprays on people nearby. They would probably have Anti-Large due to their Hammerhand but that's always up to debate.

    I also forgot to include Marauders in Tabletop could take Flails as weapons! We should bring that back at a variant.

  2. This video was really good… until I realized you left out the literal King of Norsca, Mortkin.

    I’LL share my hopes for Norsca.

    Legendary Lords:

    Mortkin – The King of Norsca – Undivided Character who has the ability that through certain missions can gain god alignment without losing it for others, and can ultimately dedicate to all four. In his book he’s literally a contender for the Thirteenth Everchosen until he chooses to die after achieving his vengeance; because he refuses to be a pawn of the Chaos Gods.

    Surtha Ek – The Chariot Lord – I love that other people are coming around to asking for Surtha as a Legendary Lord. I’d love to see his model get updated, and be given a two handed spear and javilins to throw. Make him the Anti-Large & Ranged Lord from his Chariots. He should also unlock unique chariots as he dedicates, and have general access to Gorebeast Chariots.

    Mona Mimn – Fimir Matriarch – basically all that you said. A caster lord with a focus on Fimir and Fenbeasts.

    Lastly I’d be okay with Lostericksson, Sayl, or some other Kurgan/Hung character.

    Legendary Heroes:

    Beorg Bearstruck – Norscan Werebear – he should provide serious buffs to Skinwolves and Skinbears. His regiment The Bearmen of Urslo should be a Marauder Champion or Marauder Berserkers (w/ Shields) unit that either on command or at 20% HP transforms into a unit of Skinbears. He could maybe have an very late game skill where he provides all berserkers or Marauder champions a chance to turn into Skinbears when at low health.

    A Sorcerer Legendary Hero and a Hunter Legendary Hero would also be nice, and I’d like some new characters added to the lore of Norsca.

    All the units you discussed, and give all Norscan factions access to generic Chaos Spawn. Every other Chaos faction has Chaos Spawn.

    I’d love if Scylla and Aekold were unlocked once you dedicate to a specific God. Harold should be available to Norsca baseline.

  3. I like the dedicating but their should definitely be a true undivided path you can follow. Maybe have it be the less powerful and fun of the paths. But it could just give you cool campaign buffs as opposed to crazy battle stuff and effects like dedicating to a god.

  4. I could see a Styrkaar faction join in too. As a slaanesh longship faction aligned with Archaon I could even see him being sent to where that Norsca faction is near Mazdamundi.

    Lorewise, I could see him being moved there if CA said that Archaon had heard of a major threat brewing in the west which would have to be dealt with (presumably Yuan Bo, Mazdamundi/lizards generally, Ostankya). That could be fun

  5. Well i'm 20 mins in and i feel this is the perfect oportunity to keep posting my Norsca rework idea, this idea is an amalgamation of one of Book of grudges's ideas + discord chat + my own.
    I feel like mixing more stuff into the pot could make this become awesome:

    Tribes of Chaos dlc:

    Core idea: Focus on the viking/ barbarian identity of the faction, to separate from warriors of chaos, bringing a unique flavor of chaos faction.

    LLs: 1 Tong, 1 Hung, 1 Khurgan 1 Norscan ( Beorg Bearstruck- Can transform into werebear ) FLC: Surtha EK becomes LL boosting chariots

    Lord type additions:

    Werelord – Boosts weremen to continue Beorg's army type, can be random between any 4 weremen

    Troll or Fimir Matron – this lord type continues the monster boosting dynamic that Throgg has

    Mechanics:

    Every tribe lord focuses on their units and boosts them, with Beorg bringing the new dynamic, + base faction mechanics:

    Religion – Beorg focuses on the religious side, where getting favor from the 4 gods grants you bonuses to the were units that Beorg brings. ( Also he's the only one capable of maxing out all 4 gods )

    Units are – weresnakes, wereagles, werewolves (skinwolves ) , werecrows, and beorg has unique access or boosts the werebears more which represent the undivided part, weremen are preety much using the skinwolf skeleton and changing stats and jobs, separating them from the naga of khuresh, so only the head is animal, and the body has characteristics.

    Differenciating Throgg from Wulfrik:

    Wulfrik – The challenging wanderer: Becomes a Norscan pirate starting at sea or on skeggi with a focus to be the wanderer, mechanic being to challenge enemy LLs by talking smack to them and defeating them, acting like a trophy style mechanic.

    ( this would be great for players that like to collect lord traits )

    Throgg – King of Trolls: Main objective to travel the world and defeat factions with, or find troll types to add to the faction. Every troll species added gives global bonuses to all troll units. ( Kind of like collecting books of nagash, instead its troll species )

    He also boosts all monstrous units in the roster like he does currently.

    Add Bile trolls, lava trolls and any other unique troll units to the mix that arent in game.

  6. Your character selection is pretty hype, especially Scylla!
    I'd like to see a Skeggi DLC, where they would also update Lizards a little bit. It could be something like Norscans try to steal ancient items, while Lizards try to protect them. Because right now Mazdamundi is still a vanilla lizardmen faction. But your ideas about the caster LL and caster Lords would clearly help Norsca a lot.
    Also, It would be nice to see Throgg get more Trolls.

  7. I think norsca itself is very badly thought. Both legendary lords are very bare bones and they don't really "feel" how they should, like wulfrik should have a mechanic to say fuk all and run all over the world hunting and throgg shouldnt just be a troll but big. The rooster is ok but there's no chaos flavor on it, the monster hunts are ok but as you said there should be like a lot more or instead of having RoR just having random monsters constantly from other factions so everytime you hunt them you get one but you are getting quests constantly flowing(like 1 every next turn). Chaos gods need more things and rewards/penalties and actually feel the heavy change of your faction influence.

    So anyway we need a custodian team

  8. I really think CA should do a Champions of Chaos type DLC type for Norsca that would turn thé race into Tribes of Chaos. The way I see it, CA could make 4 interesting factions like that :
    – Norsca : led by either Egil Styrbjorn to make a cool Khorne champion or Beorg Bearstruck because were-bears are fun (although he could be a LH also recruitable for Dogs of war), and then add more viking-looking marauders and stuff such as valkyries/shielmaidens and cursed ettin.
    – Kurgan : led by Sayl the Faithless and Nightmaw or Crom the Conqueror (but he would work better by being a LH for Archaon I think), with kurgan specific units and kurgan looking marauders.
    – Albion : basically add the fimir in this island of mists, led by Mona Mimn, with fimir units, fenbeasts, maybe dark emissaries and celtic looking marauders.
    – Skeggi : led King Adella (Tzeentchian queen of Skeggi), with marauders on cold-ones and jungle marauders.
    All this would give a good variety of start positions and aethetics to the race (Wulfrik would also have the norscan looking units of course and Throgg would have a focus on trolls and monsters).

  9. I agree with your FLC ideas – full send!

    For DLC, I like the Norscan LLs you mentioned, but not at the expense of no Kurgan/Hung tribes. If CA makes a Nomads of Chaos DLC (which I doubt), then full send with your ideas. If not, then I hope for the “Norsca” race to change to “Northmen”, including a Kurgan (maybe Sayl would fit here since he’s a Dolgan) and a Hung LL.

    Best-case scenario would be all of the above.

    Surtha being the chariot lord and Sayl being the mammoth lord is far more appropriate!

  11. I hope Norsca gets at least 2 legendary lords in the near future. Currently, if I don't want to play a brain-dead troll, I only have one playable character for Norsca.

    I hope we get at least this:

    Surtha Ek and Throgg in the Norsca region.

    Sayl the Faithless in the north of Cathay.

    Wulfrik should be moved to Skeggi.

    It would also be nice if Norsca get Mona Mimn, Lord Mortkin, and Beorg Bearstruck as legendary lords, but that would probably require something like a character pack.

    The flc part also looks good.

    Would prefer to see CA lean in to the concept that norska has some other gods in ther pantheon and chaos gods are a part of it and not the whole thing. This whould be a grat opertionity to show that som of the "good" god can be horifing.

    If CA/GW wanted to make norska more of its owe thing it be cool to se shield-maidens and Valkyries added and potentially a Valkyrie LL to the faction.

  14. I personally would like to see a Norsca subfaction that is hardcore Viking and goes against Chaos Gods. Spreads Untainted, tries to free their culture from chaos, redeem themselves in the eyes of the southerners and convert Norscans. Would be nice if the chaos gods aspects for this subfaction were actually their own entities like Khaine for elves is (you could say he is a khorne aspect, but actually not) and those lesser gods would help you to free other Norscans tribes from chaos gods. I was thinking that the Skeggi could be that kind of faction, but they already have their own gimmick with Dinos.

  18. I want Skeggi Norscans who focus on buffing marauders and champions. Let their legendary lord steal Wulfrik's bonus vs large for javelins-ability too, because it would be a great tool for fighting against the Lizardmen.

    As for Wulfrik, I want his abilities to turn him into a powerhouse duelist, and I want him to have a unique spin on the Waagh mechanic where you select a lord and hunt them down for a unique buff, increasing in strength based on the lord's level. I don't want his niche to be that he has a wind spell in the form of a boat. He's The Challenger, but right now he feels more like The Challenged, because many other lords beat the snot out of him.

    Lastly, make Throgg all troll-focused. Make his buffs buff trolls of every type and let him recruit stone, swamp and maybe even armored chaos trolls. Either give the Werekin abilities to Wulfrik or a legendary hero, and give the Fimir abilities to a Fimir legendary lord or hero.

    I know Norsca is normally closely related to Chaos, but I don't want them to feel like Chaos lite. They have their own cultures and ways of worship, of trade and craftsmanship and warfare, and the more a potential rework taps into that, I think, the better.

Would like to see the Norscan peninsula changed from Chaotic Wasteland to Frozen climate-wise and instead have a regional indicator implemented that denotes Norscan homelands if they're keeping that mechanic. That way the place isn't completely useless to any invading Order force and instead just comes with territorial disadvantages instead of being full-on unusable. It'd also be nice to have the natural aversion between Norscans and the Empire for instance reduced a little, as there was occasional trade going on with them in the lore. That door might still be nice to keep open before it all goes to shit in the late game.

  20. I personally would love an original Skinwolf Legendary Lord. Everyone loves werewolves (I'm a big Werewolf: The Apocalypse fan), and it would tie into the whole frosty, northern, Solstheim from Elder Scrolls Morrowindish, monster vibe.

    Something like the fanmade mod Rafford the Wolf would be a lot of fun.
