EDIT: I am definitely taking on board people's concerns about these types of products and am not in any way interested in pressuring anyone into products they may not be comfortable with, but as I shared these concerns here are the third party studies I was linked to regarding this topic. I am really not trying to seem 'fake' about this and learned as much as I could, this is a first time sponsor but I will continue to educate myself on this subject https://drive.google.com/file/d/1fb3dv3W9yqTy4KwomRZlGuZ4M5uBfpZA/view?usp=drivesdk

  2. Im sorry, mr beast is doing WHAT on his channel?????!!!?!!?! I literally. Have heard almost nothing abt him. Except that hes annoying and has a lot of money that he sometimes gives ppl to make videos abt and a big fanbase and makes That Face a lot. But i didnt. Fucking know. Thats not philanthropy what the actual FUCK why arent more people talking abt this?? Ive seen a bit of discourse abt 'does philanthropy have meaning if ur using it for views' irt to him, esp irt the blind ppl eye surgery video (literally the only video i knew of), but THAT IS???? NOT THE PROBLEM HERE?? WHAT THE FUCK this is the most dystopian shit.

This reminds me of the japanese man who as a contestant of a game show had to live in isolation and could only survive off of things he won from sweepstakes. And the mental toll on him was. Insane. This is seriously like the most morally bankrupt psychology experiment shit, except its not even a psychology experiment, nobodys even getting real data or benefit from it, it's just perverse entertainment that mr beast is profiting off of. What the fuck. I know i keep saying that but rlly what the fuck.

  3. Fantastic video. I loved Squid Game and refuse to watch the reality show for pretty much all the reasons you've outlined here. The bigger the wealth gap gets and more unequal our society becomes, the more I start to feel really icky about gameshows in general. Since around 2008, as living standards have fallen for all but the richest in society, they've felt more and more gross to me. Nothing illustrates this more, from my perspective, than this contest between periods at an ice hockey game in South Dakota, USA, where teachers from local schools had to scramble and fight for dollar bills to pay for classroom supplies. Fucking grotesque. https://youtu.be/oGiF30dJg4M?si=MjGDuJSqrZU51bh2

  4. Its funny that the Victorian amusement of slumming is now packaged so you can watch "the other side" without getting near them. Of course, the "other side" are actually actors who are usually better off than those comfortable people paying for the privilege of watching them. Because movies are cheap entertainment. I am being sarcastic.

There is a pernicious habit among filmbros to think films are important but real life works that people do every day aren't. Because there isn't a camera showing the good deeds and an audience to applaud. Its an odd cycle of exhorting people to engage in capitalism so they can support filmmaker's capitalism which in 'important' film cases, often preaches anti-capitalism. Its the modern version of selling Catholic indulgences–you can sin but pay money to be forgiven. The acrobatics of hypocrisy denial is truly astounding.

  5. I really appreciate your point about hbomberguy’s analysis because I felt a similar frustration that Harry ends it with what feels like a wildly successful youtuber saying “make money, but don’t plagiarize”. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t believe it’s justified to plagiarize or neglect crediting and citing your sources, it’s just irritating that it feels like hbomb neglected the larger systemic analysis of why people might plagiarize to begin with. Instead, he opted to frame James and co. as bad apples that are, for one reason or another, intentionally malicious in ways that creators like himself or any viewers simply can’t be, and I just find that so disappointing.

  6. "Capital has the ability to subsume all critiques into itself. Even those who would critique capital end up reinforcing it instead." – a Disco Elysium quote that is deeply ironic in retrospect and that I hope makes it to an Amazon production just for maximal tragedy

  7. legitmately wanna be put into a gameshow like this only to pull a Katniss and ruin the show for the producers by once I win splitting my winnings with every single participant. That would be nearly 10,000 for each person, which is a life changing amount of money. That could cover someone's rent for a year. Especially considering participating apparently didn't meant they got paid? Which sounds like it should be illegal RIGHT?
Edit: How many times do you think I get away with this as a kind of modern Robin Hood with my band of merry thems?
