You do realize none of these lyrics are ironic? Right.
I know you're not products of the American public school system.
Ironic? Just the title.
It wasn't Uncle Jessie (John Stamos) that "You Oughtta Know" was about, but her ex, Dave Coulier, who played Joey Gladstone on Full House.
Ed Byrnes takes the piss outta Alanis for this song … just search for it in here … quite funny.
"Head over Feet" live on the Howard Stern show. or anything from that set really. She and her voice are mature at that time, she has a great band, and really plays with her arrangements in a beautiful way
Alanis Morissette started out in 1986 as an actress in the Canadian TV show You Can't Do That On Television. But was featured for a performance at the Orpheus Musical Theatre Society in 1985
I'm amazed at how you lack knowledge and awareness of Alanis. She is still going strong today in her 50's. She changed music. You're listening to early Alanis. Keep listening and you'll figure out why she's iconic
Uncle Joey, not Uncle Jesse. Uncle Jesse wouldnt touch that 🤣
I do like Alanis – a lot. But it does bother me a bit that most of what she is talking about is not really irony. It is simply things going wrong.
Wrong uncle…
Such a classic. I like pretty much everything she's put out. Cant wait to hear more.
It wasn't the uncle Jesse character from Full House, it was the friend Joey..
Alanis said she didn’t consider this a serious contender for her album. It was something she came up with as a joke and little by little, she was inadvertently fleshing it out as a warm up when her producer noticed it was taking shape to be a hit. When he first broached the topic to her, she had trouble taking it seriously. It went on to smash everything in its path as a single. You could be a metalhead or diehard hip hop fan. Either way, you caught yourself singing this song every time it came on in 1996 to present day.
This song drives English teachers crazy as it offers several situations that actually are not examples of irony as implied.
🇨🇦 There are a number of BadAss female Canadian artists ! Alanis, Avril Levine, Alannah Myles, Celine Dion, Lara Fabian, K. D. Lang, Sarah McLachlan, Shania Twain, Nell Furtado, Joni Mitchell, Anne Murray, and Alessia Cara ! There is more, but my typing fingers are tired . . .
I find these two dimwitted
The live version of Uninvited should be the next song in your Alanis journey
The only thing "Ironic" about this song is that there isn't a single example of irony in the whole song.
This album is a classic, and I'm still a bit bummed that it took me as long as it did to really appreciate it and Alanis. Really glad to see you two check out another great song by her!!
Personal observation… The two versions of Alanis in the back seat have always reminded me visually of Marcella Detroit during her time in Shakespears Sister, specifically as the angel of death in 'Stay' and her character in the music video for 'I Don't Care.' Anyone else ever think that or see the similarity?
For what its worth… Those are two amazing songs by two very talented ladies that you both might enjoy.
I loved Alanis the moment I heard her. The subject matter, always seemed to obscure how supremely talented she is. There’s a great acoustic version here it is

Could you take another look at DANELIYA, she’s the Stone Cold girl. She has a new songs out, called Tied. You’ll love it.
Another good one by Alanis….but there's more: Thank You __ You Learn __ Hand in My Pocket __ Uninvited __ All I Really Want __ Head Over Feet __ Hands Clean __ and more.
The biggest irony is that the events in the song are not ironic .. at all. Just coincidental and unfortunate, but not ironic.
😊❤ I love this whole album!! And funny that your first thought was Canada … it probably was, Alanis is Canadian! 😅 Two more great songs, which show more of her diversity are, "Hand in My Pocket" and "Head Over Feet". Luv you guys!! 😊❤❤
NO! That song was about Dave Coulier, he was uncle JOEY not Jessie. The one who did the Bulwinkle horns.
None of the lyrics are the definition of ironic but just unfortunate
Uninvited…the live version…it's much better than the recorded version
A song thaty lives up to its name I was going to suggest you do some Jewel shes also incredible and what a story behind her; Lee Anne Rhimes is another
Love This Song and Have The Album Jagged Little Pill
Nothing ironic in the song, just all bad luck.
Frank Zappa Don' eat yellow snow
If one is authentic then crazy is a part of her. No judging bro, it does no good bringing part of someone character into it, her we all have a little crazy in us.
Uncle Joey…not Jesse
Uninvited, live at the Grammys. Thank You, Head over Feet. And so many more. She's always different and amazing.
Bad luck isn’t irony.
both, but crazy for sure… it's sad to be in that industry, especially as a young woman left alone to the predators; sad is that in order for us to enjoy her music she had to suffer so much
