I run a 3/4 screen in my artsway all the time. Really I should put the inch screen in when I get to 15% and lower moisture, it kinda powders it bit more, but all the corn goes into the tmr with silage. One point in favor of the grinder mixer is you could blend more different grains together, I'm sure you have that thought in mind. Good luck with the gearbox, I'm kinda paranoid about mine. Just how wet is your corn?
Yep, calves dropped up here too lately. Bought a liner load of 470 pd heifers to feed with our heifers this winter today. Our steers left a couple weeks ago. Come down in price quite a bit since they left.

we had some of them mix mills, i think we had 4 and each worked 12 hours everyday but we never did corn, the same issue would break on all of the ones we had, a long bolt, kinda like a shear bolt at the bottom of the auger inside, its the reason Dad got a grain vac cause cleaning out that chop sucked. we now have box grinders in every barn and run on auto when feeding time arrives, every 4 hours
Your feed looks good to me. Maybe a few too many whole kernels like you said. I don't think you can get 100% of the fines out out it but the cows will eat those too. I used a NH mill that was made for grinding hay. It had a screen for hay that had square holes in it about 1 inch if I remember right. We ground corn through it to mix with the hay and it worked really good. You may try to find one of them if you keep that grinder. I've been around several NH grinder mixers like that and really liked them…never had many problems with them.

I did same thing. Bought a 358 nh mix mill. Grinded some oats for calves. So far so good. I’m going to check my gear box oil tomorrow
I use to grind 6 to 9 batches of feed a week for years with a 358. I think that bearing goes out on everyone else because they only grind corn and minerals into there feed. We always ground small grain and minerals than corn last and sometimes added a small bale of alfalfa to lighten up the feed for the milk cows.
Price out the gear box before you tear it down. Had one that was bought at auction. Same thing happened and the dealer wanted almost as much for the gear box as we spent for the whole mixer 😂 As far as the screen goes. Stay with the 1/2 inch if you feeding weaned calves because they clean it up better and use the grains better for growing. We switched to all black a while back because they were bringing 40 cents a pound higher. I agree it’s crazy 😝
