SpaceX finally got to fly their second integrated flight test of the fully reusable Starship & Superheavy system, the launch was spectacular, excitement had been guaranteed and excitement was delivered. The reusable part however remains elusive for now, but I look forward to seeing the next launch be even more successful.

I'm still disappointed though that space x didn't have onboard cameras on starship.i wudve loved to see the view from space..all we cud see was jct a tiny dot until we were told they lost the ship due to explosion

It's still complete failure, despite two improvements compared to 1st test : launch pad is now reusable, and all booster engines started and burned to the end. But it's still far from reaching orbit.

Scott I really want to ask this question: why aren't anyone trying a rocket design with three-stages and recover the first two stages only?
I understand that Elon really wants to go to Mars so starship used a heavy-second-stage design that is not common but suitable for Mars missions in the way he plans. But considering that recovering the rocket (no matter which method we use) affects its weight ratio, and adding a new stage is the best way to compensate for extra dead weights introduced. A light-weight & low-cost & disposable upper stage seems to be a feasible solution. I ran some simple calculations with raptor engine's performance and quite conservative structure weight values, a starship-superheavy sized rocket with a three-stage design above has almost the same orbit capacity, even better performance if the mission profile requires higher DeltaV.
An extra stage means lower terminal velocities on first two stages which makes it easier for the thermal protection, and on the other hand lower fuel cost on the first stage if we want it to fly back to the launch site. Plus it is unnecessary to throw away new engines every time because we can always use the refurbished vacuum-engines from the second stages that has already done good service. When combined with a different first stage, such as an imaginary bigger falcon rocket with seven raptor engines, this third stage now acts as the second stage in a good two-stage design which is similar to the new Glenn.
Sorry for the long question, I'll be flatterd if you can explain why such design is not as good, I am quite confused because even if it is a bad design, there's not even many discussions about it.

Did anyone else notice a negative bias of the news reports on the SpaceX launches? Maybe its just the reporters thinking "exposion equals total failiure". IMO its unfair to all the hard working people that make these rockets possible.
I believe they on purposely terminated both space crafts in order to get the faa off their dicks.

Bring back an enhanced version of the space shuttle…. SpaceX could undoubtedly build off that platform and make it much better, including utilizing reusable boosters. Starship, imo is great to watch, but….

How does the "fuel gauge" in a rocket work anyway? I'd have thought that the telemetry display was just a stylized projection of where the methane and LOX would be at that point. But maybe there's a big float gauge in there π€
The mission met and exceeded all the goals they set out to do. They were even reasonably sure the booster wouldn't survive. A successful mission called a failure by the woke for what? Politics. These A-holes wonder why they are untrusted and hated more and more.

You've got to love how quick spacex are going for this and the fact they set stupid goals for each one but this was definitely a success. A long way to go for it but mental how something this big is doing this in its second flight. I just love aswell it was all built in a shed with metal welders and then these rocket geniuses it's brilliant. It's going to be crazy when we see this thing working.

One success that most seem to overlook is that Stage Zero survived. There isn't a massive hole in the ground like last time. That's a big improvement.
It was a very successful firework display. Exploding rockets is Musk's forte.
Given that the Super Heavy made it all the way to stage separation, I would call it a fully successful stage 1 test. Even if the boost back never works, it's still as good as every other launch vehicle first stage.

I was pretty much just waiting for your analysis, Scott. I believe SpaceX would love to have you as more than a space enthusiast, more like one of their engineers.
When you brought in the aspect of Water hammer, i thought of the phenomenon of cavitation on a glass bottle partially filled with water; when knocked at the top, the bottom breaks. It seems almost similar as the upper stage engines light knocking the booster at the top, then the booster engines from the bottom. Could that be a possible reason for booster failure?
