  1. The Manning play was one year too late. In the 2003 regular season matchup the Colts outcoached themselves with four terrible goal-line play calls and lost 38-34. Had they run the bootleg on fourth down in 2003, they would have won and earned homefield in the AFC Championship Game. Belichick often references old plays himself – when he went for it in 2009 in his own territory late on fourth, he remembered not doing the same in the 2006 AFC Championship Game and getting burned when Manning led a game-winning TD drive.

  2. Bill is a football genius. In games where they had the ball in garbage time, he would call certain plays out of certain looks just to be tendency breakers. He would run our of formations that he would usually pass and vice versa. Self scouting at its finest.
