'No other nation is doing this' Matt Canavan on farmers facing forced emission cuts

Agriculture Minister Murray Watt said that farmers must do more to cut emissions to save the planet.

National’s Senator Matt Canavan on the other hand thinks there is no logic to it.

“If the government makes farmers do this it will mean that you pay more for food in the shops, that’s what it will mean,” he told Sky News Australia host Andrew Bolt.

“No other major country in the world is doing this to their nation’s farmers so why would our Government be on the warpath, it doesn’t make any sense.”

The Agriculture Minister declared that the industry cannot rely only on carbon offsets and argued they must change practices while launching consultation on Tuesday on the government’s agriculture and land plan.

  1. Nett Zero is a calculation being the difference between emissions and absorption. First step, calculate the quantity of Australia’s capacity to absorb emissions. Nobody knows what that is, so nett zero cannot be calculated, let alone be required.

  2. Farmers work hard, raise a sweat through hard labour, get soil on their hands to produce food for us not like Albo Bowen ,Chalmers and Watt who wouldn't know what hard toil is. Politicians dine at the parliament restaurant and think drink fine wine and assume we are winging about the cost of living unnecessarily.

  3. Hello Matt heard of.a country Called the Netherlands? One of many actually taking steps to ruin their agricultural production. Australia's only consolation maybe that either labour will be voted out or that with their usual incompetence the measures they want to take will become obviously unnecessary when the basic stupidity of Anthropogenic Climate Change reveals itself despite the "Narrative".

  4. Many farmers can definitely do better in terms of environmental impact, animal welfare etc. But it shouldn't be up to the government to make their lives harder. WE, the consumers, should pay more for better quality food.
