Quadruplets – Episode 14 – Naval Arms Race: Italian Artisan Campaign

Our attentions turn to the dire state of our cruiser forces. Not only do we add a new light cruiser class, and refit all of the old armoured cruisers, we also have no less than four brand new ships to add to the fleet.

  1. Love construction and refit episodes. By the way, if you are going with semi-historical builds, it is a good moment to implement some 4/5/6 inch secondaries. Starting with heavy cruisers…please. One, two barrel turrets would do perfectly, they look nice and very Italian ;-).

  2. Your Florentia class CA looks like you took the Trento class CA treaty cruiser and improved upon her design. All the while staying within the treaty limitations. If you weren't including the heavy cruisers in your artisan limitations, you would have a very efficient, reliable, and effective heavy cruiser in your navy. Well done.

On that note, have you thought of doing a campaign based on the naval treaties throughout the 1920's? Basically, you build your fleet as you want, but as when 1920 hits; you then must adhere to the limitations of the Washington Naval treaty. Then, in 1924, and again in 1928, follow in step with the London Naval treaties. I think Austro-Hungaria would be a preferred choice, but I would like to see you utilize the French as well.

  3. I'd have probably taken that spare displacement and stuck a turtle back citadel in for the additional resistance and armor quality.

Unless there's other reasons not to go for it.

(also I actually kinda like the look of the lozenge turrets, don't hurt me! Lol)

  4. This episode almost feels like "Variations on a (Naval) theme of Paganini", by Johannes BrotherMunroes! Love how fast all of these are, while also being quite luxurious for their crews, and also quite deadly to their enemies to boot.

  5. I don't understand the smaller 8 inch guns. Didn't historical accuracy go out the window with the one ship per higher class limit? Also, considering the trouble those bricks caused… Still love you, BM. 🙂
