  1. The movie’s cinematography is good, and the acting is OK. If you had not read the book, the movie is quite entertaining..

If you read the book, the movie is nothing like the book. First, escapees are all male. The book is focused on the escapees and them setting up their own society, and doing major amounts of construction.

Captain Nemo plays an important, but modest role in the book. The pirates are a real threat instead of the caricatures in the movie.

Again, if you enjoyed the book, this movie is a huge disappointment.

  2. Why are there two women in this movie? The original Jules Verne novel had no women. Just several white men, one black escaped slave, and one boy. Hollywood is perverting the truth again. Why am I not surprised?

  3. If anyone liked this I'd advise against reading external reviews because they really trash it. Mostly they harp on the special effects. Look I know they weren't state of the art but the thing that I got from watching it is "we're deliberately going to keep the special effects basic so we dont squander our meagre budget on that" which is quite easy to do so I'm really glad the took that approach because it's great otherwise. In fact I took it that the special effects were more of a description or a place holder not to be taken too seriously and we are supposed to meet them half way and use our imagination as well. That's how I looked at it and it was a great experience.
