After playing through New World, hitting level 60 and experiencing most of the end game content I kept finding things throughout my time playing that baffled my mind in terms of design, don’t get my wrong, fundamentally I love New World but I had to jump into a call with KiraTV to discuss and compare experiences with the game as so far it seems quite polarizing based on comments I’ve seen on my recent New World content.

—New World Steam Description—
ABOUT THIS GAME
Explore a thrilling, open-world MMO filled with danger and opportunity where you’ll forge a new destiny for yourself as an adventurer shipwrecked on the supernatural island of Aeternum. Endless opportunities to fight, forage, and forge await you among the island’s wilderness and ruins. Channel supernatural forces or wield deadly weapons in a classless, real-time combat system, and fight alone, with a small team, or in massed armies for PvE and PvP battles—the choices are all yours.
KEY FEATURES:
CARVE YOUR DESTINY
For thousands of years, Aeternum has been the source of fantastical legends—and now you’ve found it. Shipwrecked and without supplies or allies, you’ll need to make your way in a dangerous world where supernatural power has changed all the rules. In such a land, your destiny is whatever you make of it.
A LAND SHAPED BY MAGIC
Aeternum’s mysteries run as deep and dark as its history. Delve into the world and uncover the secret truth of the island and its millennia of strange inhabitants. As you explore Aeternum, you’ll discover beauty, danger, and opportunity at every turn. You’ll need to use all your skills to take advantage of the island’s bounty—and survive its horrors.
SWORDS, GUNS & SORCERY
Arm yourself with brutal melee weapons, ranged artillery, or supernatural powers and jump into New World’s classless, real-time action combat system. As you progress you’ll be able to determine what you want your gameplay experience to be like—will you act as a protective shield on the front lines of battle? Will you sling spells to support your allies from a safe distance? Only you can decide.
STRONGER TOGETHER
At the core of the New World’s social features are the three factions, organizations of like-minded players and non-player characters with their own motives and schemes for the island’s future. It is as a member of one of these factions that you’ll wage war and claim, defend, and develop your territory.

Kira just whines about everything it can't be that bad if your both still playing it. we don't want it to be another year in Alpha..😜
HOLY SHIT THAT'S KING KIRA SPEAKING. ALL HAIL THE WATCHDOG
Love seeing the progress of KIRA. He has proved himself to the world like no other. Love you Kira
I liked this format / casual chat
You two know your stuff.
I hate that no matchmaking shit
Yeah ^^
I got past the level 30 grind by raising a zone to 30 for my house and getting up to 100 in all my crafting while doing zone quests. Tge best way to play is to back and forth between quests and crafting. Not optimal, but most enjoyable.
Lazy Peon and KiraTV colab, am im dreaming?
Great video. Exactly my how I would describe the game in its current form. I hope someone from amazon game studios sees it, and will take it as constructive criticism.
Like Kira said, New World needs more time to mature. It is also a statement in itself that despite the games issues the people that like this style of game are still playing. It will depend on how agile the devs are at making the changes and for them mot to fumble on them.
I got 400hrs in the game. I like it but some of these systems only rear their ugly heads with the more time someone plays.
Aoc is the only hope
I tried New World. While there are a lot of issues, and a massive lack of explanation on things, I kept trying it anyway. It's really annoying that you can't reasonably fast travel until later in the game, so low level players need to try to escape high level mobs to get to another low level zone to collect items they need. The actual combat system is really simplistic only having a couple abilities total. Despite all that I kept going though. The part that ended it for me is how insanely toxic the players are.
Not falling for this crap. Not buying.
Nopes.
Its not about inexperienced team designing the quests or that they do not play it. I believe they know exactly what they are doing. Everything was designed to prolong everything, literally everything. Quests send you running for hours, grinding, crafting – good luck with crafting if you want to to have perks and attributes you need, the watermark gear thing – everything is there in place to make your journey as long as possible and artificially prolong it while not putting maximum effort in it, thus the copy=paste everywhere. And that is not a good way.
This game don't have a real economy and a system that recover the economy if gold hacks happen. They don't have a system to burn the gold like gear enchanting, gear regrading, karma or something. Better Archeage of this have a real economy even it is p2w. It is happen before in Archeage but it is not a gold hack, it is the p2w Apex hack. After the hack the economy slowly recover after a few months.
I just keep imagining how great the game would be if it was a 3rd person runescape experience. Grindy sure but you reap the benefits for putting the time in
To be honest, I thought New World is a game that straight out of a slow life isekai anime/manga/novel in a world of sword and magic. Even tho I never and cant play it because of the pandemic and i dont have pc, I love watching streams and opinion about the game.
Game gonna die in a month.
Like + mandatory comment to support this type of content. Its great stuff I hope you do it more in the future.
I never thought of NW as a theme park game , always thought of it as more of a diablo style mmo but I guess that was just me.
there is one problem that is missing from this video , the optimization in NW is god awful especially for an MMO, I don't have a bad PC and NW demands more from it then any other game I have ever played be it single or multiplayer, it also a reason why a few of my friend don't even play it , there PC can't run it . You might think this is a none issue and we just need to get better machines but an MMO need to be playable in wide PC range as possible because most people that play them don't have hight end PC in the first place , if even still you think I'm wrong , then look at BDO it has the same or better graphics as NW , it only has one loading screen with a fully open world and intractable environment, and yet it runs in almost any PC.
fucking true
the PVE aspect is COMPLETELY "Tacked on" half-assed and super lazy.. definitely an afterthought.. which is real shame.. cause the core gameplay is pretty fun
but without proper PVE you wont appeal to the casuals, and if you don't appeal to the casuals.. you're game is doomed.
The developers want you to explore their great world, but they definitely do not incentivize that part very well. Also, they completely underestimated the laziness of your average player.
The issue was not that they did not have the time to get the game to where they wanted the game to be. The issue is that they've no clue what the game is supposed to be.
Ye, not leaving Gw2 for this one….
the T1 resources are more valuable then say t2 t3 t4 materials in WoW as well
So strange how I LOVE playing the game, but it frustrates the hell out of me.. Its the Destiny disappointment for me all over again, the love hate relationship. You can see so much potential but it seems like the developers don't.
To many drops from chests. Bank is full of crafting regents.
Everyone can harvest everything and craft everything. Need to be limited to 2 harvest and 2 crafting skills. Force people to trade to get stuff not craft everything themselves.
Can't sell junk and have to salvage, drop, or sell at AH. Need vendors to buy junk at reduced price. Need to be able to breakdown junk for crafting material to craft other items. This would make green junk worth something.
If everyone could not craft everything this would let craftsmen exist. People would be forced to make money to buy stuff they can't craft themselves. Salvaging items for raw crafting material would be a viable income option. There would be trade and prices for regents and raw material would raise.
Every minute in a morporger should be an adventure. Grind is an admission of defeat.
You are sooo on point! I just stopped playing when I reached level 34. I couldn’t go on. It was tedious AF and I was bored. I just gave up on this game.
Nice crossover haha
Yeah when will gang bans be patched? Needs to be deleted.
Dream team
NW will not be able to pull off an "ESO".
ESO was designed to be a theme park MMO. Not a sandbox game. So when the devs doubled down on introducing new zones and quests while fixing PVE issues, and making sure everyone could enjoy existing content at any level with anyone, that's when the game saw player numbers climb steadily. They chose not to invest into many of the sandbox aspects of the game, including PVP, which is why waves of people leave a few months after the launch of an expansion, chapter or DLC. And the devs are fine with that. It's part of their business model.
NW was designed to be a sandbox MMO. Not a theme park. Given how the developers want this to be another theme park MMO, it will likely not do very well down the road.
Unless the devs get their heads outta their asses and start fixing issues competently and focus on the sandbox aspects of the game, this flaming train wreck will keep heading for the edge of the cliff at full speed.
YO KIRA IDK IF U ACTUALLY READ YA COMMENTS
BUT HOW IS NBA 2k NOT CONSIDERED THE TOP MMORPG?????
You literally role play a sports star with multiple roles! Many attributes and skill trees hidden in a sports game
In depth character creator
Ranked modes
Meta comps
Like HOW is 2k not the best mmorpg besides wow and ff
If they want people to gather and refine and craft they NEED to stop those insane weapon and armor drops from mobs. The market is flooded with weapons and armors. On my server one could just buy T5 stuff for next to nothing. Who would want to spend time crafting worthless sh1t?
Have known from the start that there are many issues with the game, and like you I hope that they will be fixed but on some things have my doubts.
The way you described it all though made clear to me why I have had such an enjoyable time when so many don't.
I am definitely a sandbox player, and make my own fun in most games. The way I have played from the start has I guess inadvertently let me enjoy a lot that is broken and must be fixed for all to enjoy too, so I'm definitely disappointed in many ways… but still addicted and having a blast lol
I know my playstyle and what I enjoy is not the norm though and understand the frustration of so many who are fed up.
Hope whoever is calling shots wakes up and listens to all the criticism and feed back… or they ditch them and find someone who will.
My take is: This game is made for profits and is not a passion project and you can feel the "soullessness".
They developed a game that they thought would be very popular, saw that there was a huge demand for PvE, so they tried to slam some PvE content into it and here we are.
