When we lived in England,1958 to 1961, you would make an appointment with the overseas operator to call grandma and grandpa. You made sure you peed. Had water. And you were waiting for her or him to call at the appointed time. Your operator would have called and made arrangements with the necessary American operators. If your grandparents were on a party line everyone knew to stay off the phone. Then there were all the beeps and squeaks as the call went through. If you know the group Pink Ffloyd they have dialogue with an operator and play a trick on her. Great gift. This is a phone you would never lose. Renee,start saving your change and checking it for value. I have 60 pounds of pennies. One day I got change at the local drive through and it was someone's coin collection!!!

My sister had that same Red Riding Hood flip doll – though I can't remember how you got to the Grandmother. We never had those kind of ornaments – are they glass? I broke several at relatives houses when I was a kid. Never fessed up till now. The candlestick phone is really terrific. Often the Bakelite is broken, as I'm sure you've seen. If you still have a copper land line, they can be hooked up with some work. I had a wall phone that had been converted so it could make and receive calls (dial pad was hidden) but unfortunately with cell phones there was no sense keeping our land line. I bet someone someday will figure out how to convert them to work over cell networks. Swansboro is a beautiful town on the coast here in NC. Several of the women in my mother's family were / are D.A.R. The great thing is that once one person does the research, others can use it. We are fortunate that one line of my mother's mother's family ties into a family that had been well-researched … and the research published. A sewing kit in the car is not a bad idea. Regret you learned why "as serious as a root-canal" means really serious, but glad you got the work done. A lifetime of tooth problems has left me with only 16 original-issue teeth – so keep on being brave and keep up with care. Not fun but you'll be happier in the long run. You got to stay away from Doctor Dentist, they inflict pain and take your monies! [but on the upside you do get to keep your teeth in working order sooo that's good]
Sewing kit in the car is an awesome idea. When my brothers and I bought our first cars, my mum insisted we each have a Sewing kit in the glove boxes. They have saved each of us our our children quite a few times from embarrassing ourselves or garment malfunctions. When I was around 10 years old my Mom was cooking a pot of beans and for some reason I decided to take off the pressure valve!!OMG!!! Liquid Bean juice exploded EVERYWHERE!!😮 Needless to say I never did that again!! Yes I remember rotary phones! When I saw the mouthpiece of the candlestick phone I I thought it was a wall-mounted like my Grandmother used to have!!😊
Months till Christmas to plan…… nope, weeks away. Love the old phone from Larry, very cool! Root canal, I couldn't afford the whole procedure, was going to be over $1500, I opted for the $250 pull it instead. I'm on my way to dentures I'm afraid. Dentist stuff makes me feel 20 years older (75) than I am,. Around my parent's still feel 20ish. At work, mid 30's to early 40's. Seldom what my age actually is, except when stiffness creeps in 😣. Hello Renee. I hope you’re weekend has been great. Mine was busy but that’s ok because I got to see my daughter in Indiana and 2 of my granddaughters. That was today and we had some laughs and some much needed time together. This coming up week is going to be long and a little stressful because I have 4 of my younger grandchildren all week because they are on fall break. But it is worth it to spend time with them. I love the phone it’s wonderful. I remember are phone cord on are wall phone was so long and stretched out from everyone walking around with it and one time I got wrapped up in it and choked a little bit but my sister was so mad because of it. Cool phone!. I was in the process of saving up to get 2 or 3 root canals redone…one sounded nearly identical to your situation. I thought that was going to take a very long time to save for…then the crowns on top, but life had other ideas and I was diagnosed with bc a couple months ago. Now I've had my 2nd round of chemo and nothing tastes good with chemo mouth…everything tastes either like burnt metal or chemicals. I wasn't able to get my dental taken care of first because they wanted to hit the ground running to aggressively treat the bc, so I'm hoping I will still have teeth when the chemo, surgery and radiation is done. I enjoy your channel and have for a long time now. I wish you the utmost success. I plan to still be watching from the wings. I'm still trying to finish my year of running the art museum. I like to finish what I start when I can. Well, sorry so windy today; it just kinda came rumbling out. 🤓

On that candlestick phone, I'm not sure but if you hook up to your phone line you might get a dialtone. Back in day folks would pickup ear, click the arm and get the local operator. You would give her the number you want and she would connect. Don't know if getting an operator these days is possible, but it might be cool to try! Check w/phone company to make sure it's safe if you try. At any rate, it's a neat conversation piece.
I've had two old fillings and a cracked crown replaced…with today's advanced techniques…it is nothing like the "good old days" in the chair. Just think…of the foot-treadle drills back in the 1860-1900 period! Well, at least I'm glad I did not pack any peanut butter/jelly sandwiches in those upcoming parcels! Those glass ornaments bring back many memories of Christmases past. We also had a nice collection of German decorations. I sold most of the collection to a fellow who had a fabulous collection of Christmas decorations/ornaments. This was 20 years ago. I stopped putting up a tree. I have two neat ceramic trees…like you love. Wow…the old Western Electric finally sees the light of day…solid brass/steel. Out here in San Francisco, as throughout the country, we had letter prefixes: OVerland; SEbright; TUxedo; ORdway; FIllmore and others. The capital (two) letters were used instead of boring numbers. You'd dial OV1-0000, rather than today's 681-0000. You'd make a very cute "Hello Girl"…(operator)! You're WELCOME!! I remember the party lines.
I’ve had three root canals and crowns. With two of them I got the root canal done and the crown put on and had rather severe pain still afterwards. Went back to dentist and found out I had an extra root that they missed. So, I practically had to have an additional root canal done on both of them. UGH! 😫 I hope I’ll never need another one! I watched a program about Glebe House in Ireland where the artist Derek Hill lived it now belongs to the state. There was a clip of him using a wind up phone and him saying 'Mary this call is more important than you serving people in the shop😂' I think the calls went through the local post office. The house looks amazing and has collections of all his things.

We had the most beautiful trees. Dad would make sure the tree was straight and make sure there was plenty of water. Then he would do the lights us kids would hang ornaments. Then mom would do the tinsel. Oh it was beautiful when she was done.I miss my parents and brother and daughter. But I have the best memories. And i thank you for bringing them back. I love you.
