In the US (as against China) and elsewhere in the Western World, high speed lines are DESIGNED to be intrusive, circuitous, disputative and expensive. It's a racket that's eating us alive. Nevertheless, the advantages of building high speed are not so extreme as trumpeted in England in re. HS2. (HS1 is a great HS line and one of my very favorites, things only fell apart in England with HS2, and gullible politicians.) The state of China's passenger railroading prior to beginning their HS investments was far inferior to that in England. The English version of HS network could be gradually expanded and upgraded from the wonderful existing one to very beneficial effect, but the difference of less than an hour in long-distance (by English standards) travel time is a negligible consideration against all those benefits trumpeted. As a benefit to passengers and attracting more of them though, it's definitely a worthy endeavor, but the problem of dumb fiduciaries and politicians pitted against evil engineering concerns must be dealt with – THOROUGHLY, LIKE JAIL – first.
The Chuo Shinkansen Maglev with training wheels is a nightmare. I thought Japan was immune to dangerous foreign influences due to the language barrier but it looks like I was wrong.
– Railways can shape economies and transform travel for millions of people.
– Mexico is building a new railway called Tren Maya, which will run through the jungle connecting major ruin sites, beaches, and hotels.
– The project has faced backlash due to environmental concerns and opposition from Indigenous communities.
– Officials believe the economic gains will outweigh any negatives and are continuing the project.
– The Yucatan Peninsula was relatively undeveloped 50 years ago and relied on agriculture, but now millions of tourists visit every year.
– The Mayan train will start from Cancun airport and loop around the Yucatan Peninsula, stopping at popular tourist destinations.
– The project is headed by the National Fund for the promotion of Tourism and funded by tourist taxes.
– The project promises to generate thousands of local jobs and contribute to the economic development of the Yucatan Peninsula, but some locals are pushing back due to concerns over the economic benefits only serving tourists and the wealthy, and the widening of tracks leading to more landscape being cleared.
1500km new railways plus all stations for only 10 billion dollars in Mexico, yet in UK, the budget for a third runway (2km) at heathrow airport is a whopping 21 billion dollars.😱
nice video
Now the migrants will be happy because will be a train that will rain through
HS2 is not just about speed between two cities it’s also about freeing up space on the current overloaded line. Since the start of the Industrial Revolution naysayer have been against any large project. Take the London sewer system, the Underground railway, railways in general, the bypass around Stonehenge, all have been apposed but now years later we’re very glad of them.
Trains are chains of slavery to earth as chains are to a slave
I could barely hear the bloke in the orange Hi-Viz jacket talking about HS2 because his head was so far up his own arse. Putting a little laugh in his speech when talking about the downsides of the project as if they were all little insignificant hurdles and not affecting so many people in life changing ways
Why don't they sell TRANSPLANTIBG RIGHTS to BONSAI gardeners to save all the old trees?
That China chapter aged like milk.
Edit: I don't think there will be all that much more rail expansion considering the financial woes China is facing currently.
Sounds like the natives have been taking tips from the ones in Canada. They tend to be a lot happier about things once they get a big enough payout.

These are my personal sticking points, and real issues I bring up all the time when the monotone utopianists who plague the web blindly dream of rail being the dream.
It's a nice flowery notion when in the planning stages of a city, but after the fact, someone is gonna get screwed over. 99% it'll be one of these utopianists finally getting it too, which is sadly the only way to get through to those types.
Here ot is happening in real-time kids! Listen up as opposed to living in dream land! The main place you guys just love to point at as the ideal transportation hub itself isn't just mindlessly eating it up. You should atop to actually think as well!
I am unable to convey how much I love the accuracy and diligence shown in these videos!
so this is just old videos about trains put together? can you write in description that this compilations is from past videos, so people won't have to rewatch whole vid/question their sanity and experience dejavu? 😅
While I was initially excited by the Chuo Shinkansen maglev train and still kinda thrilled to see the experimental L0 maglev sets being run, I've come to realised that most of the build cost is in the construction of tunnels through mountains. I wonder if it would have been more commercially viable if they just run regular railed HSR trains. Not only is it much cheaper to run, but it has a higher passenger capacity for the same amount of space. The current technologies that the Shinkansen is trialling with now have trains that has set speed records of over 440 km/h. It could probably handle operational speeds of 400 km/h over the mostly straight sections, just 100 km/h less than the L0 maglev trains planned commercial speed of 500 km/h
Of course, the L0 maglev will be a showcase that may someday export the technology to other countries, so I can understand their motivation to go ahead with that.
this is the type of content I love seeing. Public Infrastructure is such a vital part of creating a liveable future.
Thanks for sharing.
Why not here in the USA? Sick of all the traffic…
200 years ago British built the first railway for Chinese. But China has built 42,000km HSR, it is sharing its technology with Indonesia, Laos, Cambodia, Thailand and Malaysia at a cost 1l5x cheaper than UK and 5x faster on completion.
HS2 was three phases, 1, 2a and 2b.
▪ phase 1 high-speed track is London to Birmingham with a link at Handsacre north of Birmingham onto the existing West Coast Main Line taking trains to the North West of England and West Scotland.
▪ phase 2a is Handsacre to a junction at Crewe.
▪ phase 2b is Crewe to Manchester on the west coast & Birmingham to Leeds on the east coast.
phases 2a and 2b have been cancelled for good.

u sure about that hs2? 😂😂😂
“Cities undeveloped”. Perfect. Don’t destroy them.
HS2, one of biggest failures in planning and construction we have seen in the UK for sometime, absolute embarrassment. Great Britain is no where near being great any longer, it’s nothing but a profit making vehicle for our government and their rich pals.
The segment about HS2 is out of date as HS2 has sadly been cancelled. I understand the controversy, but this leaves Britain as about the only major European country not to have a modern rail system ( or high speed at least).
the guy managed to talk about the UK rather than Spain or France regarding HSR 💀
