The health authorities in Kenya are investigating an unidentified illness after more than 90 schoolgirls were admitted to hospital.
The students from Eregi Girls High School, located in the west of the country, had difficulties walking and symptoms of knee pain.
A senior education ministry official who visited the school on Tuesday told worried parents that the situation was under control.
Conclusive results to determine the cause of the illness are expected later on Wednesday.

That is straight up Mass Motor Hysteria or as modernly termed: Conversion Disorder. It occurs like uncontrolled, abnormal body movements/ jerking/ tics/ convulsions/ fits. It's as a result of ongoing stress, anxiety, exceeding fear, great sadness and depression. This is most prevalent in institutions and environments that are repressive, where those in authority or the leader (in this instance, the school administration) is domineering/exceedingly authoritarian/autocratic/abusive/censoring over their subjects (in this case, school girls). Those are growing girls; their naturally curious/enquiring minds are perhaps constantly suppressed and quashed; it might be that the girls there are not free to express their questions/feelings/ opinions/outlook/observations. There may exist some form of punishment that is severe. There may be physical/emotional/psychological abuses with censorship going on at school. Psychologists in presence of police should calmly question those girls; they will probably get astonishing revelations of strange goings-on in that school and its administration. Those girls are simply manifesting emotional and psychological tyranny from their school. The Ministry of Education has an obligation to provide those girls and their parents professional counselling and full support. There should be thorough investigation and arrests if there is any information of criminal nature. Don't ignore the statements of those girls. Just my humble opinion.
