this is by far the best and funniest video you have done in a long time.
Doctor King Cocks here is out of line… but he's right.
Also nice haircut.
Lowering the print runs while raising the prices is going to worsen the decline of Magic the Gathering. Hasbro/WotC is changing too many variables at the same time. In this economic downturn, this is just going to drive a lot of consumers away and increase the barrier of entry for new players.
What they should do in this moment is hire specialists in the economy to find the equilibrium between supply and demand, price management considering the competition, global distribution volumes, and how to attract new consumers.
Any new tcg games that would be worth getting into?
I dont think WotC is trying to tank the value of cards. Thats just the ramifications of having multiple variants and overprintined reprints in multiple commander/masters sets. Thats going to deflate the value of these cards. While the higher ups keep pushing the sticker on the box higher while eroding the value of whats inside. Eventually the disparity is so great, people to start to back away.
They could fix it from either standpoint. Make the cards in the box worth more or make the price cheaper. Ir preferably both. Except that ain't gonna happen.
WotC is starting to remind me of THQ (video game company) the year before it folded. Not saying that Magic or Hasbro is going under, yet. I’ve seen a similar death spiral. The employees knew that the CEO and management were over extended into licensed IPs and low budget titles. The big budget games were “safe” because they were similar to other popular games on the market. Similar to Universes Beyond, Secret Lair.
“Who tf watches this?,” 😆😆
Dear Dr King C, I've seen that you complain about your hair, finasteride is really good man, there are countless of videos talking about minimum dosages and they dont really break the bank that much, you cut the pills and a box can last you 4 months.
Pd. thanks for your videos and time
gAME pIECES

2023 GAME PIECES!
microtransactions are the GAME PIECES of video games
This every corporation…
I genuinely come here to remind myself all these poors think they're "investing" in Magic living in an apartment working for some corporation.
Something I don't understand is why can't we have both worlds. Have the "crappy" version of cards that are just game pieces but keep the collectible fancy versions. I do enjoy wilds of eldraine enchanting tales, but the sheer volume of them opened ruins their collectability except for the top versions. Is there a legal issue that means they can't implement this sort of strategy?
Rudy. ive been watching you for years. full videos. I have never played magic nor bought any magic products. I am here for the shitshow and rants only. thanks for your service
I have never seen more magic players than I have now. Seems like the goal is to grow the player base, especially with all the Universes Beyond sets. These new players will need the game pieces to be successful in the long run or they might give up due to pay to win and legacy players. The growth of Commander continues to bring value to cards that were worthless before because of player creativity and its eternal format. The new collectors market is strange – to me that means unique art of your favorite cards to "drip" out your deck, but that is subjective. I can't see shifting to another card game with so much invested already. I started with Yu-Gi-Oh before Magic and am about to try FaB so maybe.
Went through my old Legos I had as a kid and found some 1980's & 1990's sets. Sadly, there are thousands of pieces piled in a big container, so it'll take some time to put them back together. Should be fun though!
No counterspell makes it dead for me
Hey Rudy, long-time 3.69%er, brief patron and first time commenter. I just wanted to chime in because, while on the surface of it, these “GaMe PiEcEs” folks can be read as dorks who want to make Magic unprofitable, but I think these complaints come from a very real place. Magic, from a player perspective, lends so heavily into the whale mindset that it necessarily creates a lot of animosity among its player base as they are forced into paying a high barrier of entry just to play. Comparatively speaking, Pokémon’s equivalent of a standard runs about 100$ on the secondary market and Yugioh’s equivalent of a modern/legacy deck runs about 500$.Magic, from a player prespective, is pretty overpriced, where competitive decks run at least double cost of other cards games. And that is also on top of having multiple competitive formats, unlike the afore-mentioned card games. While Magic cards retain value, meaning cashing out is easy, the sheer hurdle required for players to engage with Magic is very costly, leading to a negative image among the general population, negative sentiment from players who are forced to spend beyond what they would otherwise want to, and a negative experience for collectors and investors when they do an intense reprint. It creates an antagonistic system, where players want more supply, collectors and investors want less supply and local game stores want something in the middle to maintain steady returns. But Magic is incredibly behind in this aspect, as other TCG have achieved a more harmonious market by creating products and cards to appeal more specifically to each segment of their consumer base. This is why I respect the aims of project booster fun, because it is WoTC's attempt at creating cards and products that more specifically appeal to each segment of their player base. But I believe project booster fun failed because they have failed to create products that specifically appeal to their consumer base segments. As far as collectible cards go, they have printed so many alternate art special treatment upshifted rarity full art cards that they killed any price differentiation between card printings. They, in essence, killed the mechanism by which other card games remain affordable for players. In other cards games, there is often a 5-10x price multiplier for these alternative art version, but in Magic, there is no price difference to make them financially appealing to collectors or investors as stores of value. Furthermore, they cut local games stores out of their business model, burning them too, and they even introduced pseudo-rotation into eternal formats, burning enfranchised players. Hasbro has created an incredible antagonistic market for everyone involved, and I just wanted to chime up because I think these “GaMe PiEcEs” folks is just the player base expressing their desire for a fairer market, even if what they say is that they want every card to go to zero. But people would never be melodramatic online about a card game, right?
when he slicks the hair back you know this will be serious 🙂
seriously, though – magic arena is perfect for people who jsut want to play magic and don't want to spend as much money. if you are good at magic you can just play for free. the physical cards need to remain collectible otherwise the whole thing falls apart.

I disagree with the idea that they're not giving us a clear direction. Their words may run counter to their intended direction, but their actions are loud and clear.
Quarterly lore developed sets. No spoilers beyond upcoming set.. Play pieces in draft with a chance for one variant. Collector packs all variants. Expand Ultra Pro contract. Fully endorse organized play.
I will gladly trade my pieces of paper for pieces of cardboard😁
Scarcity in a game is garbage, full stop. Wizards should have abandoned boosters and the like decades ago and just sold the full card set as an expansion pack. Slap a $100 price tag on it, split it up into tribes/spellbooks/etc and part out the different card types for like $20 each, and bam. Problem solved. Scumbag resellers have to move on, the game opens up to a MASSIVE variety of new players, and Wizards makes money hand over fist.
Rudy, most of the hobby and gamestore websites selling MTG in New Zealand no longer list MTG under the category of CCG. They're quietly using the TCG banner now. They know that things have changed.
The realest thing I've heard Rudy say in a while is reminding everyone that Republican vs Democrat is just an engineered distraction (politicians are all the same and they're bending us over and laughing about it)
All i onow is that Snapcaster mage was 70$ apiece back ehen i boight mine in 2019, and now it ain't worth shite. My Lorwyn foil cryptic commands were 105$ apiece when i boight them, and even they're just about worthless now. I'm personally not happy about this.
I bought magic a lot but… its not even about the amount of stuff coming out. Its just the quality is low and not very creative. Also it turned into a pure money grabbing endeavor. I dont feel the same when buying a booster. Just feels like someone using me not that I am buying something not even valuable but like a lotto ticket. It lost something and for me its just sad. Magic is not dying but its for sure not on a heathy diet… and has high bloodsugar.
Most stores by me hardly carry any magic. And hardly anyone shows up to play magic. Everyone plays yugioh or Pokémon. Sad to see what my favorite game has turned into in the last 2 years.
