  1. If there was no barricade, then the responsibility falls on the local council for not properly safeguarding the danger from drivers. If there was a barricade, then it’s the man’s fault for not looking where he was driving.

  2. These huge tech companies are funded well by various agencies with deep pockets with "strings attached", ie they typically work against the common man. And, very few startups can compete. And of course everyone wants convenience.
In my case the boss is cheap and wont pay to keep the gps subscription for the service techs so we rely on big tech to guide us. Many times I've been directed into private property while out of town, and then i wonder whether the "way out" is correct. I was a courier when we had paper maps but you can hardly find those easily. The rollout of modern tech was never a democratic process and we're being forced to use it, usually by employers who want to make money. I have my phone and also an employer's phone and tablet. Just too much junk to F with.

  4. you don't put up sawhorses, barrels, or flashers that can be removed by "vandals" if a road that is out causes instant death. you put up permanent concrete barriers. the city owes that family big time.

  5. how are there assholes in the comments saying it's the drivers fault for plummeting into a death pit? literally a road that leads to death. it's the cities fault for allowing it to even be possible to accidentally drive into that. 100% there should have been permanent concrete barriers making it impossible to pass.

  6. North Carolina has received roughly $51.3 million in 2022 and 2023 for ports, waterways and bridges. What happened to all that money and why the bridge wasn't repaired or rebuilt before and after the accident?

  7. Google's liability is ZERO. From the EULA, which everyone acknowledges or they cannot use the service:

GOOGLE NOR ITS SUPPLIERS OR DISTRIBUTORS MAKE ANY SPECIFIC PROMISES ABOUT THE SERVICES, THE SPECIFIC FUNCTIONS OF THE SERVICES, OR THEIR RELIABILITY, AVAILABILITY, OR ABILITY TO MEET YOUR NEEDS. WE PROVIDE THE SERVICES “AS IS”.

    Liability for our Services

THE TOTAL LIABILITY OF GOOGLE, AND ITS SUPPLIERS AND DISTRIBUTORS, FOR ANY CLAIMS UNDER THESE TERMS, INCLUDING FOR ANY IMPLIED WARRANTIES, IS LIMITED TO THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US TO USE THE SERVICES.

The internet is an enhancement of life. Not a substitute for getting a life. If you are so blindly focused on what is on a smartphone and not paying attention to the real world around you then you fail Darwinism. You're too stupid to survive.

Real people live in the real world.
