‘Anti-nuclear zealot’: Peta Credlin slams Chris Bowen’s ‘own-goal’ on nuclear

Sky News host Peta Credlin has slammed Climate Change and Energy Minister Chris Bowen as an “anti-nuclear zealot” after inflating the cost of the Coalition’s proposed nuclear strategy.

Mr Bowen claimed the Coalition’s plan to convert coal-fired power stations into nuclear small modular reactors would cost $387 billion.

The Minister’s estimates allegedly factor in 70 new reactors, when experts say Australia may only need 10 reactors.

“So on balance, Bowen’s attack on nuclear power really looks more like an own-goal than a political winner – especially since Labor’s so-called energy transition is just not happening as planned,” she said.

“There is nothing like the 22,000 new solar panels going in every single day or the 40 large wind turbines every single month – let alone the 10,000 plus kilometres of new transmission lines, that Bowen himself has said were needed for the next seven years to meet Labor’s legislated targets.”

  1. We've got the nuclear submarines so it makes perfect sense to go nuclear power as well. Think about the synergies between the two "projects". You'd like to think it's simple common sense as well as security and economic sense. Bowen's head-in-the-sand position on this can only mean he is not doing this with Australia's best interests in mind. Is he doing this for his mates and cronies then?

  2. The more nuclear is talked the more it will expose Labors lies. They lied about the relieving the cost of living, they lying about the voice and they lying about the cost of nuclear to cover up there blunder. Blaming others and saying you did not ready the full Uluru statement (most like to deny accountability), or the energy cost were done by a different company does not cut it. If you are in charge you are responsible for making sure you have all the facts and as a Poli you are supposed to serve the people and all the people and the majority of the people. not some small woke group cause its suits you.

  3. The big dunny in Canberra is full to the brim and it needs flushing down the sewer-Bozo Bowen is just another zombie who is a clown wasting taxpayers dollars without consequence or accountability. We the taxpayers need a whole new administrator system and rid these major parties-they are out of control.

  4. Bowen is trying to treat Australians like fools.
All the coalition has to do to get in at the next election.
Which won't be long after the voice goes down the shitter! is to stick with nuclear, if they are going down that path with subs then the logical thing would be to start a nuclear Industrie here?
It just goes to prove that you don't have to be sane to get elected?

  5. Too late Peta. Nuclear was the energy that made sense in the 1950's and 60's. The coal industry was never going to let it happen unfortunately. Even gas missed it's time. You're barking up the wrong tree trying to turn the clock back now. The renewable transition is happening but it's disjointed and like all major shifts in technology will take time to even out. For countries that already have large scale nuclear it's different. The proposed new small scale nuclear plants which can avoid the massive water cooling requirements and may look good on paper cannot compete in the current market.

  6. These dumb fucking retards haven't the slightest clue as to how great the value of Nuclear energy would be for Australia.
We could honestly have about 2 of them and literally stuff off all the wind terbines and just about all the solar panels and we'd still be pumping out more than we needed before. Which would mean energy prices would go down, and would be forced to. If they didn't the Government would practically be causing another problem amongst Australians.
