  1. One potential reason for the telescoping ammo especially in a vacuum is that it can insulate the chamber from heating. Instead of relying on the brass case to carry away the heat you rely on the polymer to prevent that heat from transfering to the chamber.

  2. I think the most similar firearm to the magshear is actually a project from a couple of decades ago called MetalStorm. Was hoping Jonathon was going to mention it in this series from the moment I saw it in game.

  3. Kind of irrelevant but the Lawgiver double-barrelled shotgun makes the baffling choice of having squared shells. Changing your orientation of shell when inserting from infinite to four. Looks cool, less than useless since it hinders operation.

  4. I've loved every single one of the videos that he has done for the channel so far, but these starfield ones are just baffling to me. He takes issue with so many of the bulkier design decisions from the weapons in this game, but while he raises many interesting and valid points about weapons designed for space, he never seemed to connect the idea that those larger aspects of the weapon are to accommodate the bulky, hard to manoveure space suit gloves everyone has to wear when they use these guns in space. Like the 1911, he hated how large the trigger guard was, but it's clearly to accommodate a large glove around the finger. Again, with the Shotty, he took issue with the charging handles being so large, but if you were wearing large spacesuit gloves you'd want larger charging hardware too, right?

  5. The orion ammo acts like caseless shotgun ammo 12mm x 15 i think. its been my gun of choice in my game and does a huge amount of damage once you make it use slugs with a suppressor.

  6. caseless vs. cased – some colonies might not have the manufacture capability for caseless ammo. and cased ammo makes reloading rounds easier, maybe preferable for new and less sophisticated new settlements. just my 2 calibers.
The Magshear always reminded me of the Metal Storm project.
Large charging handles might be due to space suit larger gloves.
Iron sights are a modable thing btw.

  7. 09:30 the Metal storm is a concept weapon with a similar idea i assume that is were the devs borrowed the idea. Looks like it is a pretty old concept I probably saw it on the history channel back in like 2008 I wonder why it never went anywhere i assume the manufacturing cost / complexity.
