Had this when i was young. 620 di. Very comfortable, but rotten.
Love this! dad had a red one when i was a kid. I remember it being pretty quick for the day. Yes the gearbox failed but once replaced seemed to be ok the car passed through the family for years and did well over 200k with minimal repairs!

I assume you're using DVLA / howmanyleft for the figures on how rare this car is, however you should know that the DVLA records are horrendously wrong. MGR didn't registered the majority of their car records correctly and most were lost went they went bust, there's a chap called Adrian Clifford doing a census as such on what is actually left and there's a huge percentage of cars alive compared to what the DVLA report.

The dynamics between these two are perfect. I love Ben's attitude of pretending not to care but actually noticing every fine detail.
1 of 38 is nothing compared to my 1 of 8 tds E36, which to most people would be equally as boring, flatulent and completely pointless!

These are no where near as rare as he is making out, yes, there may only be 42 on the road, but theres aother 221 SORN, because its an old almost-worthless car, meaning people won't scrap them, but they're not quite worth repairing just yet.
As for the 40k rovers left on the road, yes, but theres another 78k SORN!

I do like a 90s Rover, they were very underrated for design and let down massively by the accountants and build quality. A select bunch of mentalists swap the T16 into the Maestro and Montego and the lack of the cat usually bumps power up to 230bhp, in a car that weighs less than 1000kg
As for rarity, I have one of only 6 Rover 825SDs left on the road. The other end of 90s Rover turbos 🤣🤣
So many things to say about this video.
1 I really didn't think of a Rover 600 as a performance car. At all
2 The Rover 600 is really a beautiful car
3 I think a strut bridge would do wonders with this car, especially since it is a heavy engine and front wheel drive

I just don't think Ben works well as a presenter. That's just my opinion though. He feels to stiff and like he's reading directly from the script.
Some of the best Top Gear episodes were the challenges with a fixed low budget. Drivetribe could make it happen again. You don't need Amazon's budget. Just put the 3 boys in Cuba or Jamaica, say, with $3000 cash, and follow them with hand-helds. DON'T frikkin script it! You could create a whole new genre. It would be huge. Trust me.

Sorry, but ordinary Rover 620 and 2 litre Accords (not the 1850) all had twin tail pipes. The large silencer box in the right rear wheel arch rots for fun.
I used to work at Longbridge building cars! On the company car scheme these were known as total weapons – super subtle and fast. I've got a 800 coupe turbo now and its a much better drive than my SD1 Vitesse, in my humble opinion lol
Truly excellent cars, vastly underrated. A great engine, a lovely chassis, lsd as standard.
Change the gearbox bearings, and this can handle far more power. 300hp is easy.
4:12 "Drive Tripe" well ok then.
You forgot to mention the LSD, Recaro seats and the Garrett turbo. In terms of modifications I would put a klinger head gasket, port polish, lightened flywheel, lightened drive shaft put the battery in the back to help with weight distribution. Change all the bushes for poly bushes and uprate the suspension and lower a little 20mm maybe. Personally I would try putting an infotainment with android auto but that's just me 🙂 OH and Rover has the best automotive badge…… in the world! so I would make more of the badge make it bigger or something hehe 🙂
