The RMT union, which called today’s rail strikes, has written to the Rail Delivery Group saying the two sides need to navigate a way through the row.
The General Secretary of the RMT, Mick Lynch, told Sky News they need to resolve issues on pay and redundancies.
He said the actions of the Rail Delivery Group were a “wholesale attack on the staffing of the railway and accessibility of people using the railway.”

Mick Lynch needs to realise the Tories hate trains and are quite happy for his members to strike for 1 to 3 days a month. They are managing decline of the Railways and the chaos and negative publicity of occassional strikes just helps that.
The Government has offered this union the award suggested by the independent pay awards body, but this person has refused to put that offer to the men.

I'm disabled and will not be able to travel by train if the government gets its way. The last time ticket offices and station staff were cut, the impact on women and disabled passengers was horrible. People have short memories. Conflating destaffing, automated ticketing and cutting services to the bone with "modernisation" is a ruse as sly as the "train drivers are all on 60 grand, why are they complaining?".

a lot of those redundancies are likely to come from those rail workers (many of them who worked for years) who are due to retire in the next few years namely those who are 55+ this could be done simply by offering the longest serving workers a early retirement package
