New World – Kinda Boring, But In A Fun Way

New MMO, New World, it’s been 2 weeks, time for a look at launch and how my progress has gone so far.
On the fence about buying in to this? Hopefully I can help make that decision!

  1. The game desperately needs variety. It’s almost entirely the same look and feel all the way through questing. Wolves, alligators, zombies, humans. Those are the only mobs as far as I’ve seen in my time and in streams. Needs variety in weapon skills and skill trees for your character outside of the weapons. Appearance variety would be nice as well, everyone looks nearly the same even into the 30s. And obviously loads of QOL could be pumped in.

Time will tell how hard Amazon wants to push the game now that launch hype is gone.

  2. 5/10 imo, looks good and mechanics are fun but only cause it's new, but once the release hype dies down, the game will as well. Unless they make deep changes to core mechanics and systems. Pve sucks because the game engine and core sucks for mob/bb
oss AI, I mean I've seen shitty Dark Souls ripoffs with better enemy design, so I doubt pve will ever be relevant, and pvp can only carry the game for so long.

  3. 100h of game play got to level 40 untill I gave up the pain of the grind is painfuly boring, i love Grindy games like Warframe WoW or war thunder to name a thue, yet this game didn't bring anything new anything thrilling or interesting. No lore about the regions no special boss characters just re skins and renames with more hp and damage

  4. The biggest reason to play new world is that it's 40$. Not the lore, gameplay, content, pvp, but 'hey its only 40$.'

The problem with that is, that if it were 60$ with a subscription fee then you might actually get alot more people to tell you how they truly feel about the game. Because when you tax the wallet you tax the mind.

This game isn't worth 60$ and a sub. At this rate I wouldn't be Surprised if New World gets discounted or goes f2p and just doubles down on their store.

  5. I really enjoy it, I think there's a good foundation for improvement and iteration. There's plenty of things to complain about for sure, but for me personally it's a grind I'm happy to partake in. Hopeful for the future of the game overall.

  6. i played hard for the first 3 days, and then it became apparent that I was going to be hitting trees, nodes, skinning animals for a very long time. PvP isn't terrible when it's not laggy but that's IF people are actually flagged. Why am I in the same areas as enemy factions but they are able to opt out of PvP? As I run from town to quest hub, it's rare I find someone who is flagged to fight against, and then when they are flagged, most people will just run away so they don't lose their PvP quests. There's also the amount of bugs that killed wars, I've heard of bugs that about half of a faction's war roster was stuck in town and couldnt enter the war itself and just lost because they literally weren't ported into the battle, and factions having their entire 50 man squad use ice gauntlets to spam AoE and lag out anyone who set foot on a capture point. It's a lot of downsides to a game that was super hyped, that has mediocre combat, boring gameplay 90% of the time and bugs that still exist from beta. I gave it a chance but it didn't really pull me in, and while we still wait on server transfers to join up with friends from the massive queues it feels like too little too late.

  7. Overall I thought the game would be better than this, but my expectations may have been too high. The game isn't bad, has potential, but isn't good right now. The game feels a bit empty or soulless at this point. It may be better for it to just focus on PvP because the PvE seems really baron.

  8. "kinda boring, but in a fun way" is most likely the best way ive ever seen this game described at.

i enjoy the game but the things that is holding it down are many, to few enemies meaning you face of against the same 10 enemies in the first 50 hours, the run between every quest, the amount of time it takes to lvl up the proffesions and more.

ive put in 82 hours as of this comment and im still enjoying it with my brother but that doesent mean that its problems simply vanish. it has to get better and fast, if enough people get to max lvl and notices that there really isnt anything to do other than pvp and grind xp for proffesions there will be alot of complains and people will stop playing, therefore having big problems as not being able to find groups for dungeons and the economy pretty much stopping to a halt. if no1 is selling no1 can buy and if no1 is buying no1 can sell.

  9. I’m enjoying it for mindless fun. Do some quests, craft some stuff, repeat. Quests are repetitive and the novelty of no mounts has worn off. I have azoth procs on most of my gathering gear, so porting around isn’t that bad. Taxes, oh yeah, taxes are ridiculous. As far as bugs, logging into the inside of a crafting station or a rock is bad, but unstuck works.

  10. Crafting is disappointing and means nothing and good luck with fighting a war unless you suck the 3-4 biggest company’s dick and level capped with full bis, two most important aspects of the game out the window…nice

  11. Im level 31 and i dont think ill playanymore, its too repetitive. The whole map is marauder, bird people and covenant have all but left the server.

Game needs incentive to play the non dominant faction.

Combat is clunky at best and healing is worse. It sure sounds amazing and looks good but its just a rust/ark not a mmorpg.
