So, funny story I had with this game, I had got into the series with Yakuza 3 and 4 beforehand, and when this game got announced, I thought it was Yakuza 5 and that it was so stupid, I thought the series was jumping the shark, I did not know this game was not supposed to be canon, and I wasn't a fan of it when i first played it, but after playing it a couple more times throughout the years, I've come to really love it.
Also I was relieved when the actual Yakuza 5 got announced and then got super depressed and disappointed when they said it wouldn't be localised.
Yo, I'm glad you're finally playing Dead Souls and having a blast! Despite being a game that didn't age well, it's still a hidden gem in the Yakuza series because of how out of left field it is. This came out after and is set after the events of Yakuza 4 so it has that level of jank and since it's been a while since you've last played it, I can understand the struggle you're having ^^

I'm sure Majima is sitting in a director's chair and his boys from Majima construction are holding the camera(that is why the camera is so weird in this game)and this is his zombie budget movie.

Yay, it's Dead Souls! A very much underappreciated game in my book. I honestly love the interactions (especially Majima's, as this is the only game that explores his relationship with Daigo). Its not perfect but honestly still a fun experience and very much in the series' spirit. I hope to see both the Kurohyou games on your channel too some time in the future! (Maybe even Kenzan hah)
Dead souls is too yakuza game for the yakuza series.

This game with the current Dragon Engine and a modern TPS combat/aiming system wouldn't be too bad in my opinion. It would remain a weird game but much more enjoyable and fun.
Shotgun would definitely be useful. Especially in crowd control situations
Some words of advice. Make sure you leave room for materials. Upgrading your weapons will seriously pay off. Try and buy yourself a shotgun. Also, get the auto-head aim ability so you can clear zombies faster (just aim and shoot, it will auto aim at the head of the nearest zombie, let go of aim and aim again. Lather rinse repeat).
Oh, and the substories here are just as hilarious.

The reason why the japanese version of the game is subtitled "OF THE END" is because this is meant to celebrate the end of RGG using the Y3 engine (which was first used in the japanese-only Kenzan). The next game would be Y5, which uses a brand new engine for the series.

Kinda funny that this game was the last one with the wierd nickname translations, idk why they made Hana say mr a but majima saying kazzy is a pretty good translation of the spirit of him saying kiryu-chan
I agree with you about Akiyama loving Hana for who she is. I was glad when he didn't fall for skinny Hana and his only reaction was to search for something to feed her 😂
