  1. those trees have a VERY shallow root system, that root system has grown and woven itself into a matt accross the top of the soil layer, when the wind gets heavy it pushes the trees about, flexing the top layer of roots as the wind trys to tople the tress, but the entangled root system keeps the trees standing, this causes the ground to look this way,.

  2. WIND? these people are called experts? LMFAOROTF. Its called a perched water table. water gets trapped underneath a thin layer of soil and plants. what your seeing is and underground lake sloshing around

  3. Seeing as I have knocked over smaller trees doing this same thing, it is not a mystery. Instead of conjecture, they could just peel up the moss – easy to do for even a child(!) – and look at the heaving root system.

I still think it looks cool, though. On the other hand, I would have been a bit concerned about the safety of being there. If a tree falls on your head in a forest, does anybody hear your final scream?

  5. What happened to the History Channel? I remember when they used to discuss actual, verifiable history, not this nonsense about the existence of fairies, zombies, werewolves etc. They should stick with historic facts, not give credit to entities that do NOT exist.
