Wicked story thanks Lamont 👏 NZ is my home ❤❤❤ my country
Disgusting demon, he's surely burning in the pit!
the deputy read up on the case, in particular “The Mystery of Leslie Arnold”, published in the Omaha World-Herald by reporter Henry Cordes in 2017. Cordes had portrayed Arnold sympathetically – as a good student who had a difficult relationship with his parents and shot them after an argument with his mother over his girlfriend.
for the eight years Arnold was in prison, he’d been a model inmate, a dedicated musician, who could have qualified for early release. with some irony, the men’s escape was made through the window of the prison music room, and over a 12ft fence using a T-shirt slung over it to protect them from razor wire.
William Leslie Arnold was 16 years old in 1958 when he killed his parents and buried them in the backyard after they refused to let him borrow the family car to take his girlfriend to a drive-in movie showing of The Undead.
Arnold went about his life in and around Omaha, Nebraska, telling everyone – even family members – that his parents had taken a trip. Two weeks later he was arrested, confessed to the killings, and led investigators to his parents’ makeshift gravesite.
In 1959, he was sentenced to two life sentences in the Nebraska State penitentiary.
But by the time Arnold died in 2010 in Brisbane, Australia, his life had taken a series of very unexpected turns. For one, he’d escaped prison in 1967, in what the prison warden said was one of the “cleanest” escapes in his experience, and then gone on the run for half a century.
He died, aged 67, not as William Arnold but under the alias of John Vincent Damon. Between his escape – with another prisoner, James Harding, using masks used to fool guards who conducted daily head counts at the prison – and his death, he’d lived as much-loved family man, marrying twice and fathering two children.
Immediately after the escape, the pair travelled by bus to Chicago where they split up. Harding was captured within a year, but Arnold vanished. He married within three months and became a father, moved to Miami and to California, divorced, then moved to New Zealand in 1978, and finally to Australia, where he worked as a salesman.
The FBI worked on Arnold’s case into the 1990s, then handed it back to the Nebraska department of corrections who passed it over to the US Marshals Service. And there his case stayed, gathering dust, until Geoff Britton, chief of the office of law enforcement support in California, set his mind to solving it.
there's a whole lot more to the story. i feel sad for William Leslie Arnold. he lived his life, a truly fascinating life he wouldn’t talk about, and he was a phenomenal saxophonist in high school and in the prison band, and his son also became a saxophonist, but he couldn't ever tell anyone that he used to be a saxophonist, then he passed in 2010, aged 67, not as William Arnold but under the alias of John Vincent Damon, and his son then discovered his past, though there is no confusion and anger at all, but only sadness. the System would have loved returning him to prison, though the System cannot have that opportunity.
still, the fascinating story of William Leslie Arnold has its own twist. the escapee “became the parent who he wanted to be, or the one he wished he had.” Arnold’s son concurs: “Although it’s shocking to know that his life began with a terrible crime, his legacy is so much more than that.”
my college friend Bonnie in York Nebraska, her son Max was in prison with Nikko Jenkins, and Max told me that Nikko is nothing but s#@%.
The Undead is available for free on line, decent flick.
The family had two cars in the late 50’s??? That was unusual for those times, heck even in the early 70’s , only 2 families on our street, out 22 had two cars… most of us thought they were somewhat greedy…Maybe there was some greedy & weird disfunction going on in that Fam…like Maybe the kid was acting like the Father, or wanted privileges like the older brother.. who knows what abuse the kid endured before he went over the edge… just some thoughts
Come on, mom, gimme the car tonight…
Come on, dad, gimme the car tonight…
I got this girl, I wanna…
Come on, mom, gimme the car.
Come on, dad, gimme the car tonight…
I tell'ya what I'm gonna do.
I'm gonna pick her up,
I'm gonna get her drunk,
I'm gonna make her cry,
I'm gonna get her high,
I'm gonna make her laugh,
I'm gonna make her… shh…
Woman, woman, woman…
She gotta knows she's it 'cause I'm gonna touch her all over her body,
Gonna touch her all over her body
Gonna touch her all over her body
Gonna touch her all over her body
And she can touch me all over my body
She can touch me all over my body
She can touch me all over my body
She can touch me all over my body
Time goes by, I can feel myself growing old
Burning inside, it's making this boy turn out cold
What's wrong, what's right, I don't care when I hate my life
What's wrong, what's right, you know, people don't care when they hate their life
But how can I explain personal pain, how can I explain personal pain
How can I explain my voice is in vain, how can I explain the deep down
Driving, driving, driving, we're driving, we're driving, we're driving…
Hey, dad, speaking of driving…
Come on, dad, gimme the car tonight…
So much he don't understand, just might never make it to a man.
Come on, mom, gimme the car
Come on, dad, I ain't no runt…
Come on, girl, gimme your…
'Cause I ain't had much to live for,
I ain't had much to live for,
You know I ain't had much to live for…
You know I ain't had much to live for
The Violent Femmes “Gimme the Car.”
Hi, greetings from Australia, after I watched your video I searched John Vincent Damon and found a video by Villan Catcher about him. Interesting story by both of you. He found his grave in the Mount Tamborine Cemetry and it’s only about a 30 minute drive from where I live. Small world.
Mt Tamborine is a very nice area, tourist destination, wineries, market gardens, restaurants, lots of arts and craft stores, cottage industry type businesses, beautiful display gardens etc. been there quite a few times in the past 20 years since I have lived where I am now.
South east Queensland, Australia.
That's Crazy !!!!!
Hi Lamont, what a loser, what a silly thing to kill your parents over. RIP to the Parents 💐💐💐💐. You tell it so well. Thank you xxxx
Wow what a story rip 🙏 to the Arnold's
12:20 Just a guess but he killed his grandparents next? Aghh, wrong. I quit.
As a naughty teenager I would’ve snuck out with car and face the ass whoopin later 😂 a whole murder is insane
The stupidest reason to kill your parents. I’m glad he didn’t kill his little brother! But it’s sad he never saw or heard from him again.
In the end was it worth it for movie tickets 🎫 shit wild
Thats so sad… To think all he needed to do was grab two lawn chairs, a viewmaster, and his girlfriend go to the backyard and have at it. Crazy sounding I know but at least his parents would be alive…🤷
What a lovely neighborhood!
Thank you for sharing your story ❤❤❤❤❤❤
I bought my own car out of a junk yard for $225 when I was 16. A '63 Ford Galaxie 500 XL with money I'd saved up from my own business. I didn't need my parent's car. This kid was a loser. He could have bought a nice car back then with bottle money if he was too stupid to get a real job.
Wow in omaha I wonder if I passed by you lol. My top YouTuber by far 👍🏻
Are you passing?! Bc you’re most definitely not white lol I wonder if your subs know this! I’m sure you’re passing but I see the Black in you! Your beard sure is coarse as hell!!!! Wow! I don’t know if you’ve ever addressed it but HE’S NOT WHITE Y’ALL! lol
I’m from Sydney Australia, loads of cemeteries well worth a trip out for. We may not have a long history, but definitely a colourful one!!
Teens were rebelious in that time it was a subculture greasers of the 50s even he was not one just saying
RIP John Damon aka William Leslie Arnold you absolute legend. The American beer cheeseburger boy turned kangaroo didgeridoo vegemite citizen. Should’ve just let you take the car.
Lamon i love to see you in Australia. Ive never been there and i cant believe he kills his parents and doesn't get found intel his child dose dna and his brother to and he is chaut
That's pretty F'd up to kill your parents to just go on that one date. He was lucky not to get caught again. Can't believe that!
They never said what the cause of death for Leslie was how he himself died ?
Great story
That's a crazy ass story…wonder if he ever told anybody
O Wow So from 16 years old his life was upside down. Dammmmm i can u sleep at night knowing u are not who u claim to be
Great story man, so entertaining.
He was so selfish that he never care about his lil brother . am just imagining how the brother got to live all his life knowing his family was wept out like that at just 12 . Wow
Good storey 👍🏿
Those pesky teen hormoans 😂
Was the date worth it
Well, he didn't kill anyone else that we know of. If this was a movie plot, people would probably scoff at it for being too far fetched. I hope his son can live his life without being defined by what his father did. Life is stranger than fiction.😲
That's crazy,I was born that year Sept.4th
Reminds me of a kid near my old area named isaiah sweet he killed his parental grandparents, sold some of their stuff and went to a party a day after
Dude couldn't have been that bad a guy . He didn't murder his brother . Seems that he had issues with his parents . Didn't we all as teenagers ? We'll never know the truth . A friend of mine is a chess expert and a total card shark . After doing 5 years in prison for armed robbery . He never played chess or cards , again . Seems John Vincent Damon learned the same lesson as my friend Harry . Even the things you love become redundant in prison . One wonders if the " bad choices " made by the older brother : created a better life for his baby brother ? 🤔 Maybe Opal wasn't the best mom … 😮 Any idiot can have children … 😬
He should have waited for his dad to come home. He probably would allow him to use the car.
What about social security number?!?!
How do you get along without a social security no.?thank you Lamont fascinating story reality is stranger than fiction.
