We continue our completionist walkthrough of XCOM 2 War of the Chosen in this episode on Legend difficulty with Ironman mode turned on! A few quiet days allow us to complete several research projects, unlock Psionics and begin work on the Psi Labs. The completion of a covert action then reduces a good chunk of Avatar Project progress and advances Ranger Starfall to the highest rank of Colonel. Time to test him out in a mission that eventually sees us come face to face with four Codexes (Codices?) – can we prevail?

In this completionist walkthrough, we attempt to beat XCOM 2 War of the Chosen on Legend difficulty with Ironman mode turned on. On Legend difficulty, the hardest difficulty setting in XCOM 2, enemies will be deadlier, more numerours and harder to kill, while we unlock new technologies slower and have to pay more to purchase useful items. To make things even harder, we also play with Ironman mode turned on, making all of our decisions permanent. Ironman mode prevents us from reverting back to an earlier save file if things go wrong, so if we mess up, we will have to live with the consequences. Paired together, Legend difficulty and Ironman mode provide by far the toughest challenge in XCOM 2 – but they also offer the most intense gameplay experience.
Since this is a completionist walkthrough of XCOM 2 War of the Chosen, we will also focus on unlocking almost all achievements in the game. The only achievements that will not be covered in this walkthrough are those relating to the (now defunct) multiplayer mode as well as the “The Few and the Proud” and the “Exquisite Timing” achievement. The first would severely limit the number of community creations that this series could feature and the latter would require us to quickly rush through the game, likely resulting in missing a lot of achievements and defeating the purpose of a completionist playthrough.
This XCOM 2 Walkthrough covers the complete XCOM 2 Collection, including all downloadable content and expansions. We will not only play through the XCOM 2 base game, but also the War of the Chosen expansion featuring new factions, missions and enemies, the Alien Hunters DLC featuring powerful new aliens, the Shen’s Last Gift DLC featuring a new soldier class, and the Anarchy’s Children and Resistance Warrior Pack DLCs with additional soldier customization options. Additionally, War of the Chosen, Alien Hunters and Shen’s Last Gift all introduce additional achievements for us to unlock.
All customizable characters in this series are made by the Pete Complete community. Every soldier will be named after and designed by a Patreon supporter. To find out how to get your name into the series as well, check out this video (disregard the deadline): https://youtu.be/-BSLYzyrlPY
XCOM 2 is a turn-based action strategy game developed by Firaxis Games and the sequel to XCOM Enemy Unknown (and its Enemy Within expansion). It includes new units for XCOM and the aliens, new gameplay mechanics, more character customization options and a deepter tactical layer. However, XCOM 2 does not pick up where Enemy Unknown left off: Instead, the game assumes the player’s failure to defeat the alien invaders in the first game and therefore begins twenty years after the events of XCOM Enemy Unknown on an Earth ruled by the aliens. Always on the run, the remnant XCOM forces must find a way to rise from the ashes, expose the insidious truth behind the occupation and eliminate the alien threat once and for all.

Lovely surprise there at the end, but we're making good progress! Enjoy 🙂

Each of those codex died from a critical hit huh?
Starfall's shotgun sniping is insane still. With plasma weapons and grenades in the pipe, things are looking very well in hand to tackle the Chosen…and you haven't even met all three!
“A much more stealthy claymore from dragunova” ahh yes. The pinnacle of stealth, the claymore 😂 Great video as always putting my strategic skills to absolute shame!
Great mission
well done, commander.
"But Starfall is Untouchable." That was by far one of the best deliveries I have ever seen. I am ashamed to say I arrogantly counted Advent out, only to be absolutely shocked when four Codexes appeared. A humbling experience of how fast the tide turns, and a good show of staying calm Commander!
Hey Pete, just curious, once we start getting near the end of this playthrough, do you think you'd be interested in having a crack at the Long War mod for either game. Definitely not an investment made lightly.
14:39 lol the game was onto you
A pod of just codex… Never seen that before
Thank you for another great video Pete!
I'm finding Legend or Ironman difficult enough; you're making both look easy and I'm loving it 🙂
Starfall is literally the GOAT I’m not sure if I’ve ever seen him miss, nor have I seen him not hit a critical where he needed too
Continuously impressive work Commander, well done.
Hunter being weird. Sabotaging the Infirmary, but there's no one in the Infirmary? LOL.
Wow, the 2 hidden reveals, that's the most XCOM reveal ever. Revealing reaper/ranger…
Avoiding the P.Bomb+Fire, and counterattacking… You made that look easy, dunking on that squad. Operation Cosmic Hammer, indeed. Really just smashed Advent like it was nothing.
Strange to actually see vanilla WOTC being played these days without LWOTC and/or heavily modded campaigns. To be honest I don't think I could ever go back to vanilla again or remember how to tackle it haha.
Bro didn't encounter a codex, he encountered the whole damn library.
I finally caught up with this being the latest video of the series. Man, this was so satisfying to watch. From your intriguing strategies and tactics which often leads to Flawless victories (Gotta admit, that's hard to pull off unless you're not aggressive when scouting) and the fact that your voice is so, so soothing. Read us a book and we'll be asleep in no time haha.
That aside, I love your Legend Ironman walkthrough. You made it look so, so easy to play this game. Thumbs up and more power to ya!👍😁
Thanks for your work! Always a pleasure to watch it! Keep it up!
