This is the first DLC since I got into WH2 after the introduction of the Tomb Kings that I will not be buying on release. I wouldn't really want to buy this now until its at least 50% off. The issue with that is to see that large of a sale on this DLC will be probably AT LEAST half a year, if not a full year. By the time this DLC goes down to that price there will be many more DLC's that will come out that will probably have an equally absurd asking price that I'll also feel compelled to wait for. It reaches an end point where I'm a full 6 months to 1 year behind the current DLC cycle and it just makes the game VERY, VERY unappealing to want to continue playing when I'm that far behind the current DLC.
That is exactly what happened to Stellaris for me. I got sick of the nonstop flows of DLC, and the increasingly astronomical price of the game at got to a point where I thought to myself "I'll just wait for sale" after I had up to that point owned every single DLC the game had ever released. Cut to like a year later and the "sale" finally comes for that first DLC I said that about, but now I'm a full year removed from playing the game, and now even if I get the 1 DLC I was waiting for, now there's like half a dozen more I would still be behind on. Making me ultimately not care about any of the DLC, including the one that was on sale, or any of the new stuff. And ultimately has just made me more or less quit playing Stellaris now for over a year because I just feel completely removed from the DLC cycle and detached from the game. Frankly, I see that being a very likely outcome of what will happen with TW: WH3 now. I've already been feeling a bit burnt out on the game, and haven't touched it in 2 months or so as is. I can see myself a year from now, at least half a dozen DLC's behind the current cycle because of the price hikes staring at next year's Steam summer sale for this DLC finally being a decent price, but then just staring at all the other DLC's I don't own now. I can very easily see myself in that scenario more or less just saying "screw it" and just dropping this game (and by extension most likely the entirety of all of the Total War franchise) and just completely losing interest in anything Creative Assembly puts out. $25 for 3 lords is far beyond excessive.
Like you said i think it will backfire in the long term if they keep pushing it. But I’m still waiting to see the rest of the content and how good it is and then I will pass my judgment. Since if the other 2 lords are as unique as the changeling i can atleast justify it a bit. As long as the quality goes up I don’t mind all that much paying a bit more but tbh the kislev and Cathay lords looked underwhelming but I hope I’m wrong.
I have to say that I feel a bit spiteful, seeing that almost nobody seems to be interested in TW Pharao.
It shows that the company really has to renew and overthink their next games. People are not buying their games just because it is a new time period.
As someone who played almost every Total War game since Empire (except Troy and Britannia) I really believe that something is wrong in the higher stages of the company. It seems they are annoying even their most loyal fans, while increasing prices and blocking communication. Its a very bad reputation for the Total War franchise as a whole.
I think it will be the first time i will not purchase a dlc. So far on what I've seen it's really disapointing. The content we get does not equal the price. Even if they can argument that there are unique campaign experience as we know we get it for the changelling up to now (still don't know about the other 2), that's not a valid point. If it' was 15-16 $ like champion of chaos I will consider buying it (I know myself i will certainly buy it at the end at this price). But that increase it's absurd. I buy the new race pack that is chaos dwarf, the price was high but I was feeling that the content was right as we get a totally new race with his own mechanics and a lot of new units and a new lore of magic. However, 11 units only accross all the 3 races, no new lore of magic, no new kind of generic heroes or lord for every races(i don't really know if it's the case, maybe there was something for cathay as a new generic lord, i don't know, i hope so). When we can access to some really good content for free thanks to the modding community like the new Nagash faction. Ok you don't have the voice acting and all of that. But CA your amount of content is ridiculous, I feel like a great moder alone can just make the work on his own for free, so why should I pay 25 $ for it ? I will definetly wait the release date to make up my mind. If I change my mind I will definetly take this dlc on huge reduction, even on a not so legal third party website if needed.
and pharaoh is on place 1100 hhahahahaha dead game already
I am a diehard Warhammer Fan. I own miniatures, watch every content creator daily and I own every single DLC from Total Warhammer 1,2, and 3. I gave this game an amazing review after the Warden and the Paunch DLC and I used to show all my friends the game and brag about the devs, comparing them in antithesis with the ones at Blizzard. I am telling you right now, this will be the 1st DLC I will not buy until the price gets dropped. I will tell you this: CA knows that we are upset at the recent way they have been running the game and they knew that we would be even more upset by the price. This was a corporate, financial decision. They hope that the % of people that are not going to buy the DLC will be covered by the % increase in price. This is a decision against the fanbase and against your clients. This DLC is not worth the money. If you look at the Tzangors, they look worse than MOD content. It is the same rig as a regular Gor, does not even have a beak, and they just put a new sheild on that model, changed some stats and now poof!!! New unit!!! I am sickened by what is happening. Lacking the foresight to see that Baldur Gate is out and that people have alternatives on games to play is insane to me. CA can't even read the room. For this price, I would expect LL, Hero and half a roster at the very least. Pathetic. I guess it is time to say goodbye…
This DLC is only worth $15
I wouldn't have a problem with it if they actually supported the game with the money they make from DLC's. CA only fixing bugs and issues allongside the release of overpriced DLC is just insulting. There are paid DLC lords that have been straight up broken in terms of bugs since their launch in immortal empires and who says they'll ever even be fixed at this point. Aside from the fact that the value for money of the DLC itself is absolutely not there compared to WH2 lord packs and pricing, who's to say that these new lords won't have game breaking bugs that CA will just neglect and never fix as they did with others…
Boughtevery damn dlc, even pre ordered the chorfs altho given my criticism on the pricing, this one however is at best 10-15 euros so far, not 25, its outrageous.
Maybe they made some massive changes, but so far the tzeentch ones were laughable, considering they called it "huge chages".
I was willing for the Chaos Dwarves, not just because it’s a race pack, but because I’ve been waiting for them since the first game. I wouldn’t pay that price for just any race, and definitely not for less content
Honestly, since Immortal Empires Expanded mod is released and gets updated, I'm fine not buying DLCs anymore: modders can provide me with enough entertainment and all that – without charging half of the base game price.
The only legendary lord i am interested in for this dlc is yuan bo. I will end up buying it but i am definitely not willing to pre order it this time.
Ranking of groups of people with the weakest wills:

I am terrified to see the DLC for Medieval 3 when it come out. Probably going to have to buy every Kingdom you play..
I just want there to be some way to drill in companies heads how important it is to have A. an actual decently sized dev team, B. reasonably priced DLC and (very importantly)good conversion rates in other countries to broaden the sales, C. a good reputation and trust with the community, and D. having the content and bug fixing be reliable and substantial both in base game and for the DLCs, companies love to just skimp out too much and lead their games to dying eventually, if not sooner than later, I just don't know how consumers can really get it through their thick skulls though, i've never really seen anything but a small to mid-sized company actually do this type and stuff and they always find success in doing so
Fuck sega. Use cream api
Yeah, the increase is obscene, like they did NOT consider any level of math or economics, just picked a big round number to go up to…
Like, I can see it justified to charge a lord pack of 3 lords and 1 hero to be at least $15. $18 would be an acceptable average, with $20 as an ABSOLUTE max, stretching well and hard to justify. But it's possible.
$25 is just criminal, and probably predatory.
I just hope the discounts will come faster and harder in the coming years for the DLC, at any rate…
@Costin Gaming Define success, or failure in that manner … Thrones of Bretannia financially was a success for CA – really cheap to make (basically a mod for Attila, which is a mod for Rome 2) and it sold way more than CA needed it to sell to cover and make huge profit margin. Now what about the legacy question, is it still a success when you consider its impact down the line ? Well 3K sold really well… hack 3K is the best single selling TW game ever (and CA didn't need to pay huge precentage to some other company for rights) … so was it failure ? not really but I do agree it aggregates with the other issues to the failings of TW. Pharaoh's sales are not known yet but if it fails it will be as a direct result of ToB's legacy as well, but will it ?
CA had been over pricing DLC and 'Games' for years, the rising of prices was predicted by many beyond just me (I love how Volound brought up Admiral Price's video, the one he did when he stopped shilling for CA and just before he quit TW). Hack WH2 is a glorified fully priced expansion pack at best, same goes for WH3.
It's always easy to blame executives and suits for the failings a company, but the shitty state of CA is also the result of inexperienced devs which most of them aren't even passionate about TW and its worst enemies the 'suckers' (no offense) that just preorder and 'shut up and take my money' the franchise into its current state. Why reinvest and pay more to develop and AI when you can make just as much money or even more for not doing it and doing much less.
What's crazy to me is all the missed opportunities, they could have actually made this DLC worth the price.
-Imagine a huge flushed out update to diplomacy that came with the changeling since manipulating relationships is part of his schtick?
– getting lore of hags and generic lords
– lots of the chaos units actually don't have faction alliance, the giant cryptid for example, is summonable by someone who is gifted in the lore of beasts. But will factions with lords/heroes with the lore of beasts also be able to summon them? We don't know but that would be highly preferable.
If they missed the mark on all that and there isn't a substantial amount of other good content. I'm not buying till it's 10 bucks or less.
7:39 The development costs have not risen? How do you know that? Everything else has gone up. Food, Fuel, Rent, etc…
Sega is the Publisher not CA, Sega has recently increased the price of ALL their content total war included. They are even looking to make all future titles that they publish 70$ ( Yes this means future total war games will be 70$ as a baseline price ) [CA is just as surprised as we are with the price increase]
I’m a Tzeentch fanboy, but I’m gonna have to pass on this one since I also want to get the Empire DLC and I don’t plan to spend 50 bucks on Warhammer DLC.
I’m an Egyptian fanboy, but I won’t buy a Troy overhaul mod for 60 bucks.
CA has gone mad.
The price was £18 for me in the uk which I thought was reasonable could the main problem here be the price increase in different countries, that’s a steam thing isn’t it don’t think CA can do anything about the huge difference in prices.
I made a post on reddit about how CA's business practices are ridiculous and literally everyone just said I'm like poor and retarded lmao they were saying shit like they need to keep a roof over their heads LIKE WHAT BRO IF I WANT TO PLAY ALL OF THE FACTIONS AND LORDS I'D NEED TO SPEND OVER 300 FUCKING DOLLARS
Since it was brought up at the very end. Pharaoh, the next historical title. I gotta ask myself, who really asked for it? I am not sure I know any Total War fan personally that wanted or is excited for it, every person that I know that likes both history and Total War, mentions that a game set in that time period will be quite boring for them, and when even they are not interested, I dunno who would.
So I am guessing it will flop hard. That is not to say that Historical Total War games are out completely, just that they need to find a time period people really want.
Many mentions Pike and shot era, new game set in around 1700-1800s, new game in Medieval period, or a sudo-historical setting with pantheons from history set in a historical setting kind of deal. Or getting a license for Lord of the Rings, which is the big one for many if they do another fantasy universe.
I am just questioning who makes the decisions in CA, to me it seems like wasting ressources, time and money on things that will go nowhere, and that in turn might make them make a less fleshed out product and price hike said product when it comes to content to Warhammer Total War, to compensate for losses.
"If you don't like it don't buy it" is how you get The Future of Three Kingdoms (we're shutting down). If people straight up don't want a product they don't need anyone to tell them not to buy it. The issue here is that people do like the product, they just don't want to pay what CA is asking. The only solution is for people who would have otherwise bought it for the stocker price not to do so. Personally I gave up the 22.49 for chorfs because that's a tolerable price for a race pack (especially of that quality), but I'll have to draw the line here.
Basically these corporate parasites are leeching off the love and passion of the warhammer IP fans. I'm done with this company.
Well, I preodered it few days ago, but today decided to refund. I already have more than 3000 hours in TW:Warhammer – can wait for better price.
I really don't want CA to abandon TWW3 , so i'll likely buy the DLC.
I do hope the future prices remain somewhat stable in the future.
But, for 25 bucks, i expect AT LEAST an extra unit for each faction! Instead we get 4!
It's down to #60 in Top Currently Global Selling Steam Games
People blaming the historical total war community for the price have no idea of what they're saying.
The Warhammer community and the historical total war community are practically the same at this point since everyone that's tried Warhammer has gone to try Rome 2, Shogun 2, or any other older tittle.
The highest rated games in the total war franchise are still historical total war games, but CA's game design from Warhammer doesn't translate well in a historical setting. It's their fault for doing more of the same rather than be innovative about it like they used to in the past.
The last CA game i bought was Alien: Isolation so i don't have a dog in the fight but to me sitting on the side lines Warhammer was the best thing and the worst thing to happen to CA but i will say remember Chaos from Warhammer 1 or the Greeks from Rome 2 it will always escalate if you don't punish them.
