Actually he almost got Court-Martialed for This!!! (He went without anyone in his command knowing, he had his boat in All-Stop. (That isn't a throttle set up in the Pilothouse of a PT Boat, that's an Engine Order Telegraph, which is why there's a Motor-Machinest sitting inside the engine room and it takes a few seconds for him to get the boat moving… the odds of anyone getting out to that space is next to zero in an emergency hence the nickname of "Suicide Seat" and this caused the death of a brave man).
In fact if Joe Kennedy Senior hadn't been a powerful Democrat (and serving in the White House during WW2) JFK would have probably faced Court-Martial on 3 different occasions!!! (Of course, if any of them had gone thru at the time, he would have been out of the US Navy in disgrace!!! One was for ignoring orders involving a woman, even after being told that they suspected her of being a German Spy! Another one was for the PT-109 debacle. And honestly, I forget the 3rd, which if I recall Correctly, happened between the woman & Pt-109….
Only torpedo boat skipper to have his boat run over by an enemy ship. It's amazing how spreading money around can create a hero out of someone who should have been court martialed.
"WAS NOT!!" at an IDLEI ALL THE Air Craft Engines in their Marine form where OFF! against Naval Regulations as it Took a Substantial amount of time to start either nevermind ALL and Worm Up Enough to Engage the Drive Propelers! But JFK wanted some Glory and to hear the Japs! NO! was NOT! "Un Expected?" as JFK and Crew where on a picket duty in the streights Looking for these Very JAPS! KNOWING they Would Be THER VERY SOON! with some RADAR!
It IS ALL DNC Spun BS! the War Dept wanted to Court Court Martial JFK for curring the engines under Orders IN Operations AT WAR! and ABANDONING His Crew IN BATTLE! the Democratic President ORDERED them to Stand Down! Some Memebers GAVE UP their Commisions IN PROTEST!
At least even the Bad Presidents Had the BALLS to FACE OUR ENEMIES at ARMS with fellow americans!
both Kennedy's went Down WITH Their CREWS! at WAR! the least became the Greatest.

This was a pretty good prĂ©cis of JFKâs military exploits, but the man was sick from childhood and suffered from Addisonâs disease in boarding school and at university, sometimes laid up for months. Barrels of journalistic ink have been spilled pondering what would have happened if Joe, Jr. had survived the war.
Everyone knows old man Joe Kennedy fabricated the PT 109 to help his son get stolen honor by his lies and publicly machine. Disgusting!
Not to take away from the man but damn does life become much easier with powerful friends. Things happen, things can be made to go away. Still his selfless dedication to saving his crew says much about him.
War record? Ships/enemy killed? Drunk boys on a mini-yacht cover-up???

Not a balanced review of the PT 109 incident. For instance, the âbungledâ mission was not Kennedyâs mission – he was one of several PT boats enlisted. The bungling was by his immediate commanders who never notified the ships ofJapanese battleships in the area. Therefore Kennedy had cut the engines to avoid detection from planes. They had ten seconds to react after the battleship was detected, but the Japanese commander, seeing the American ship, turn and ran it over on purpose. Kennedyâs bravery after the sinking of his boat is legendary and undeniable. If you want to take potshots, turn your guns on those chicken hawks who act tough but ran from service when their country needed them.

Dude, fake history doesnât equal hidden history. You donât need to slant the story and delete relevant information. Just learn and tell the real facts, they are plenty interesting already.
Did Richard Nixon write the script for this biased opinion piece? A thin, frail young man uses his father;s influence to get him accepted to the most dangerous job in the Navy. After losing his boat and two men in a battle, he rescues his remaining crew from drowning in the ocean and evades capture from deep in enemy territory. Despite injuries to his back, he returns to combat as a true warrior, attacking the enemy with all his strength but remains affected by what a man is forced to endure when his country goes to war. And he used this story to steal the 1960 election from Nixon? If Nixon had won the election, the CIA would have invaded Cuba and the Pentagon would have attacked the USSR because Nixon was Vice-President when they planned all those things including the Vietnam war. Is this meant to cast aspersions on RFK jr?
