#EldenRing #Review #FromSoftware

Here’s me at 1% after 10+ hours (yes, the level I suck at this game is quite legendary …) major supreme respect!!!!!
Agreed with the boss, i think older from soft games have so many variety in bosses. Sekiro boss almost all of them is different, olus theres certain NPC is more interesting plus the lore presentations is better than Elden Ring. Elden Ring boss is somewhat "clone but a bit different". Every dragons fight a bit similar, every humanoid enemy have shared moveset, every enemies somewhat cloned and have bit differents. Armor variety also minuscule comparing to previous DS games. No upgrades to armor is also let down for me lol. Plus no upgrades to mounts or customize Torrent looks is major let down lol. But the rest, i loved it so far. A new heights of From Software game but can be better…
The title is all the review I need. Short game I’ll wait for sale
I would watch a separate video about shitty bosses like Godskin Duo
This video got me to subscribe to your channel: you were concise in why people might not like this game, as well as recognising its qualities. I still am curious to learn what "moves" you in games, as in which games truly keep their nails digged in to you. Regardless, this was a great video and it might get me to try Elden Ring where all others failed.
That was refreshingly honest and fair (I mean in comparison to many Youtubers, official reviews, etc.).
– I am waiting for a patch or two, and lower price (I am both cheap and not a huge fan of Souls game, but really want to play this one).
I feel like they really wanted the bosses to be a little less beatable by any one class. They want no individual class to be the jack of all trades. So not matter your build, there are some bosses that directly counter you and some that you counter. It makes the world feel more vast and varied, but means that you'll never have a playthrough where every boss is inevitably beatable without summoning or weapon-switching (for example, a dex build can easily dodge every boss in DS3. A dex build cannot easily dodge every boss in Elden Ring)
This isn't combat that I'm used to, and it don't always enjoy it, but I don't really think it is actually any worse than the previous Souls games' combat.
So, personally, I don't think it's a flaw that some bosses are "bullshit", because maybe an individual build shouldn't be able to defeat every demigod in this world. That's why they're all demigods, they all have different strengths and weaknesses.
I definitely agree about the pacing though. I'm not a fan of the pacing of this game, it can be very jarring. I disagree about the questlog. But that one is probably mostly just a personal taste thing.
100% already?! Wow
Waaaaaaat no fuckin way good shit bro
It is inconceivable that a game like ER deserves the "masterpiece" rating and is put on the same level of quality as RDR II or TLoU 2 (which is also overrated). On a technical and audiovisual level it is a mediocre game. It hardly has a narrative, and the dialogues of the few characters that speak are little or not at all interesting and very little work is seen in this regard. It is not revolutionary in any sense. You see everything it offers at the level of exploration and open world in hundreds and hundreds of games, even in TES: Daggerfall or Morrowind, which are far superior in almost everything, and also include texts of all kinds that enrich the experience and its background.
That in ER you can collect plants? In RDR II too, and with the most realistic animations seen in a video game, and offering more options, such as examining or eating the plant to see its effects, which will have to be taken into account in crafting, implemented in a much superior way to that of ER. That is to say, everything that ER offers is offered by RDR II at a far superior level, in RDR II each section has been taken almost to the maximum of its possibilities. Need to remember how many details, easter eggs, secrets, hidden objects, minigames, mechanics, activities and side quests are in this game?
ER almost at the same level as RDR II, is 2022 the year of the fool or what? Objectively analyzed it does not deserve more than a 75, and thank you.
If it wasn't for the "difficulty" of killing the bosses, what would this game be worth? And if they are difficult to kill, it is because we usually face them with unprepared characters, this is something that happens in any RPG: try killing an insect in Morrowind at the beginning of the adventure.
A art style impressive? It's not original and it's easier for its artists than you think, since they've been dealing with the same visual art since Demon's Souls. It's easy to do something when you're focused on it for over 13 years and don't do anything else.
But it is that in RDR II we see how R* introduces mechanics more typical of other genres and with animations that are breathtaking due to their realism. In Resident Evil the texts or documents that you pick up around the environment are shown in a vague and simple way in a text window, in RDR II the text is shown where it is supposed to be written, seeing it graphically (this involves a lot of technical work and artistic); you see a multitude of letters and notes with different calligraphies, recipes and manuals with impressive illustrations; you can read the texts even on the train, and you can turn them or read them on a black background, and also the papers have their own texture and animations, seeing how they bend when you manipulate them. RE relies heavily on text reading and yet doesn't beat RDR II in this.
In other words: if RDR II had the same audiovisual and technical quality as ER (with an AI and some laugh animations), it would still be far superior in mechanics, possibilities, options (also configuration settings), easter eggs, detail, narrative, activities, collectibles, secondary missions, asset, random events, characters, secrets and a very long and endless etcetera. Valentine's bartender almost has more dialogue than all the ER characters combined.
And add that I love the Souls and ER saga, and I enjoy them a lot, maybe more, and in a different way, than many who consider it a masterpiece and believe it deserves a 10, not even remotely deserves, and that is the only thing that many of us question.
And in terms of stats and character progression, it doesn't even beat Realms of Arkania.
Nobody remembers Severance: Blade of Darkness or Die By Sword anymore?
For God's sake, you can't even customize the horse, and there's only one rideable! Hahaha!
What does The Witcher 1 have to envy to ER. I do not understand anything! It doesn't deserve a 10, dammit!
This game just seems like hack and slash with vary littlie RPG elements.
100% agree with everything you had to say! Especially about the poorly designed bosses; I’d love to see a whole video about that final string of bosses you mentioned 🤔
I liked your review for being honest from your point of view. I will not be playing this game as I never was into the previous games and did not enjoy myself when playing them. My question is "Where is the role playing?" in this game, I asked the same question elsewhere and was accused of being a "purist"', which I admit I probably am. Elden Ring has received great reviews and praise and it's probably due more to the action and open world rather than the role playing. Maybe it deserves a new genre "Souls Like" rather than ARPG. I think many players are going to enjoy the challenge and the game overall so that's a good thing.
This game makes me want to finally buy a TV to play it.. looks amazing.
Just need a REALLY long cable to the livingroom.
You're starting to become one of my favorite game reviewer, that's a long list to climb 😄
i just platinumed the game a few hours ago. can already tell this is winning goty
I'm on the fence about getting this game but I've never played a souls born title so it would be my first does anyone have any advice
Great video. Agree with you on the bosses, some of them are just dirty – like they were hardly play tested. That may work in the open world, but not in the small arena they cram them in to fight.
Looking at you, Putrid Tree Spirit.
talk spoilers bro
This game has THE most bullsh*t, convoluted, illogical weapon upgrade system in the history of gaming!
WARNING: extremely long and hateful rant
Visuals: stunning
Bosses: very challenging but very good
Weapons: if you can find any, they're amazing.
But what absolutely ruins the experience of this game is the sheer amount of aimless wandering you have to do, trying to find the one kind of flipping stone you need to upgrade your weapons. I didn't want to have a wiki guide and a walkthrough hold my hand through this game. I wanted to just enjoy it organically and discover things as I went, but the "organic" first time user experience of this ret@rded game is nothing but wandering around frustrated and bored, doing pitiful damage because the game doesn't give you even a single hint as to how to improve your weapons.
I came out of the cave, saw the golden horse guy and like any normal person thought "yeah i just finished the tutorial section and that looks like a boss im not ready for, I'll go a different way and come back to him once im stronger." I wouldn't find out till FIFTEEN HOURS later that the ONLY anvil that can upgrade your weapons is right behind that guy! the only, single, solitary one on the entire f*cking gigantic map! F*ck you myazaki!
And so I finally find the thing, and I have a fair few smithing stones, so I start upgrading my cleaver thing I got in the southern castle, except whoops you can only upgrade to +3 until you go and fight a specific boss, die to it, and THEN the one eyed f*cking henti doll says "Hey I was just testing you all that time, here let me take you to the real smithy in a pocket dimension that's nowhere on the map, right after you just lost all your souls and cant pay for any upgrades…apparently she could've took me there BEFORE the boss, but specifically waited till my runes were trapped in the boss arena to ask me if I wanted some upgrades…this game can suck my a**😒
In the end it didn't matter, because you have to have specific numbers of the smithing stones, in sequential order, none of which is ever explained. I ended up having several of the (5) stones but I needed the (2) stones and couldn't find them anywhere. Still resolute on not following a guide my first playthrough, I wandered for another 20 hours, grinding my teeth against bosses that killed me in one to two hits, and who's health bars I barely tickled. The cave bear, the stone giant thing in the mining tunnels(plenty of shards in there but not the ones I needed🤷🏻) I even went all the way to the fat erdtree mace swinging boss before the catacombs and died a couple dozen times to that before finally chipping it down piece by tiny piece. And I had to give up. I was out of places to look, I was tired, angry, fed up, and worst of all, bored with this otherwise amazing game. So I had to play it with a walkthrough in hand or else id never make any progress, and when that's the case you have failed at the most important aspects of making a good game. A good game does not need Ikea instructions, it should naturally guide the player in a path that leads to some kind of progress. It shouldn't be this godd*mn cryptic and obscure. Anyone who gives eldenring more than a 7/10 is a f*cking fanboy shill.
Great video per usual, should get ya close to 50 just keep grinding and your set.
yes please to the boss/spoiler video
i just got Elden Ring this month on the 2 and did not sleep for 3 days just played this game fell asleep today and had no idea that my character died thats how good the game is and how much i really like the game i have never pushed my ps4 to run that long so today at 4:30 pm i shut my ps4 off it sounds like a raceing car is that bad
Strength weapons have also gotten completely screwed. Colossal weapons with "S" STR scaling do less DPS than B scaling STR weapons that are actually just DEX weapons with Heavy arts on them. The Uchigatana, for example, is busted on my 65 STR build. I can only imagine how strong it is with FULL DEX scaling, it's actually disappointing. And nearly the entire mid/late game colossal weapon gameplay revolves around jump attacking, because every damn enemy hits faster than you can recover, and poise/hyper armor is too finicky when doing anything but jump attacks.
Honestly, this game is a bit of a letdown from what I was hoping it would be, especially since I always run the biggest weapon tier available. But, it's still a good game.
in that time i still did not do much in the game i am LvL 56 and i am stuck at that lvl from dieing so much
i dont like dark souls games this game is different.
Elden ring is more forgiving
Yo I would LOVE to see a spoiler review of the game from ya… like getting a more in-depth review of the game would be great.
My review is top 40 Masterpiece game love
Eldering top 40 Hardcore fanBuy this game yes
Hey man so I hate to be negative but I think your review focused far too much on basic things. When someone sees a title like “100% review” it makes them think “ah this will focus on side quests and late game.” And so then when the first half of the video is character creation and Ashes of War it’s all super basic information that you can get anywhere. So I say lean in to what makes your videos special.
My only gripe I have is that R.R Martin was hyped and what ideas he might have had went through the From Soft filter to make it vague and hidden. I would have liked a more polished presentation with the characters and Npc's for once. Still commend From Soft for being different to many games even if they are being repetitive and redundant within their own presentations.
Ok after 80 hours of completion Elden ring is great. But I found that the game wore out its welcome around the 50 hour mark. I don't think it needed to be as long as it is, and definitely did not needed to have so many boss fights that really felt like a rinse repeat chore. the boss fights some were really well design while other were outrageously over the top where the boss were preform gymnastic that didn't really feel like a souls game. I completed and platinum bloodborne dark souls 3 demon souls and sekiro, and right away I wanted to jump right back into new game plus. I didn't feel that way with Elden ring but more Thank god I'm done. Did anyone else feel this same way?
This may be the first From Soft game that I sell back, and I am glad I bought a physical copy! Feels lazy, like a re-skinned DS/BB hybrid with a few mods like a horse and fast travel. Add some crafting and berry picking like Skyrim, I guess. I just expected a new From Soft game that wasn't DS or BB to be something fresh, and not relying on more giant medieval castle models, mutant crabs, and ridiculous zombies scurrying about. Oh, and not another friggin skeleton-filled Catacombs! Ugh. They really didn't need GRR Martin for this, and should have gone a different route, as he kept them in this medieval world crap. Should have been a modern or futuristic souls-type game, or maybe just give us BB2 for God sake!
i got my copy Friday from Walmart for $50 on the PS4 and they had copies for the PS5 at the same price. It's a great game so far I think wouldn't describe it as fun since it's been beating me like I owe it money. 🙂 The Ps4 patch 1.02 and was over 8GB so the addressing stuff on console as well.
Heh there’s 4 endings tho
Honestly the game is pretty mediocre for a from software game, I mostly play for pvp and its so dogshit in this game compared to DS2 its unreal
I bought elden ring two days ago 😌and I love it
Whoaw! Your really playing this game with mouse and keyboard?
Thanks for the detailed and honest review!
It has 4 endings not 3 fyi.
Holy crap, that was fast.
I am a huge fan of this series. But I'd enjoy it a hell of a lot more with a god mode cheat.
They just make amazing worlds with great characters, enemy design, music & fun RPG mechanics.
Difficulty has nothing to do with why I like it. In fact if I didn't like the other aspects of it so much I'd probably hate the series for it.
I honestly feel like the difficulty is more marketing than anything. Some people get off on acting "hardcore"/better than others due to playing hard games. Ironically those same people will also be the first to claim the series is easy.
it makes it hard for me because ive never played a souls game before simply because i just dont like the style of the game and the overall look of the characters, yet when people are saying this could be game of the year it makes it hard for me to decide if i should buy it or not even if i dont like the game itself
I’m just wondering how do you know if you 100% percent the game? I’m the type of person to do everything in game and I use the wiki just for locations and bosses but still having to find everything else. I don’t think it’s cheating. Makes it feel more like a story game to me that way and more smooth. Great Video!
