I don't understand anyone who thinks barbie comes off as "man hating." Both Barbie and Ken have a lot of growth and everyone comes away feeling that both genders deserve respect. If people think that message is too woke than I guess you're too far gone anyway.

The thing is, I'm pretty sure past Barbie products made decades ago weren't as heavily anti-male as this.
It's not a surprise that Barbie beat Oppenheimer at the box office this weekend. Oppenheimer is certainly a more difficult watch, that deals with big issues, historic events and consequences, that are still playing out over 80 years later. I get it that not everyone wants to watch the somewhat heavy subject matter, but it is a hugely important piece of cinema. The fact that Barbie beat it roughly 2:1 says a lot about society in 2023. Not in a good way.
Barbie has a running time of 1:54, Openheimer is 3:00. So if Barbie and Openheimer opened to the exact same number of screens with the same seating capacity. Barbie can get 33% more showings than Openheimer.
Basic Math.
What I've heard from women that have seen Barbie, is that the first half hour is great and fun, but the rest is just awful.
I don't expect any repeat views. The second week may fall off substantially.
Oppenheimer, although I want to see it seems a bit heavy for a summer movie.
I'm looking forward to barbie hitting the streaming service I use in a week or so. Oppenheimer, I'll eventually get to.
