Bill Simmons is joined by Wesley Morris to take the stand by revisiting the 1996 legal drama ‘A Time to Kill,’ starring Matthew McConaughey, Samuel L. Jackson, and Sandra Bullock.

Just when I thought I was going to bed early for once. You're a real turd Simmons.
Not a good movie. Good Rewatchables.
Awesome
You two crush like Ellis Burkes and Dewey
More like
When are you gonna do a movie people have actually seen?
Sewell and Wainwright are my top-of-the-head white Rufuses
please do sleepers next
The message in this movie is pretty terrible 😅
Jury nullification. The judge is to determine the law, the jury, the facts. A jury can decide to do whatever they wish. The jury is a black box, they can really do whatever they want to do. This is why voir dire is so important.
weird note to abruptly end on
Where are they reading this cast list from? Tonea Stewart plays Samuel L Jackson’s wife in this and is not married to him in real life. His real life wife is LaTanya Richardson who is not in this movie.
Wasn’t the verdict not guilty by temporary insanity, although the fact he brought a loaded gun to the place the prisoners were would probably nullify that argument. So pretty much the jury just did what it felt like…
It's ok to be white, Bill.
Wesley Morris is borderline unwatchable
I really don’t mean any offense, it’s just too much
Like, bro just talk about the film
Anyhow love this movie and love this podcast, big ups guys
I really can’t stand Wesley, yo man
Your take on movies is fully fueled by some left wing BS and it’s too much bro
Just have an original take bro
Everybody that’s white sucks
Original take man! Cmon bro
You’re better than that
Why does everything have to be black and white Wesley
You’re the worst man
lol the parameters of a marriage
It’s the same now as it was in 1996
Bill loves the movie…and is uncomfortable defending it from Wesley's attacks.
an all time visual performance from Sandra and, more importantly, Ashley Judd in the sweaty South
So no mention that the movie was based on real events except the victims were White and the assailants were Black??!!
This episode is brought to you in part by Saab.
What are the Vegas betting odds that Ashley Judd got on set, saw Sandra Bullock and went “I’m gonna be hot and sweaty every single scene” 🤣🤣🤣
Matthew McConaughey as Rust Cole is his absolute best role. Can’t believe Wolf of Wall street was said 😂
How can you forget George Carlin playing Rufus in Bill and Ted's.
Listened to this on Spotify the other day and t be honest I thought the guest was kinda a dumbass a few times. Didn’t seem to have done any research before coming on, didn’t know who wrote it, who some of the characters were, what year it came out, what other films came out around it, where it was in terms of the stars career trajectories. I mean, the point about how this film focuses more on how the KKK feel than the Hayley family was a great one (and laughable how effed up the times were) but please dude next time read IMDb for like five minutes before coming on.
The reason there are no more courtroom dramas is because nobody in America believes there is a functioning justice system in this country anymore. The assumption that we are all equal in the eyes of the law and in front of a jury of our peers simply isn't there anymore so they aren't a dramatic premise.
I have to wonder how good this movie could have been if they weren't so cartoonishly over-the-top in their depiction of the South, and didn't have to use the white savior trope.
28:43 waterbottle has arms.
sweatiest cast of all time..whole roster glistenin like freshly basted butterball turkeys
Mental adultery – coveting your neighbor's wife is the only thought crime of the 10 Commandments bestowed upon us by the Lord our God via Moses.
Seems like Wesley doesn't like this movie, why is he on the POD? Would have been a totally different conversation with someone else.
I agree with them both on Platt – the best Flatliner as well as countless times I've said, "Oh shit, Platt's in this-it's gonna be great!"
Wesley makes this unwatchable. Swap out the races of the main characters? John Grisham wrote such a powerful book and the audacity of Wesley to suggest just race swapping most of the main characters shows how little he knows
Wesley…….takes…………..forever………………….to………………….make……………….his………………….point……………..
And justice for all Rewatchables soon?!
Did not expect this criticism about this movie tbh…this movie was GREAT! A lil cringe at times and there's no way the verdict by the letter of the law should've been what it was(although he got off on temporary insanity which i guess is POSSIBLE) but still an EXCELLENT movie with EXCELLENT acting. My guy trashing the movie because it didn't show more of the black man's pov and chose to follow the white lawyer but Carl Lee was in jail the whole time and I personally woulda been bored if we followed Lee's family as the focus so the only person left to follow is the white lawyer and the aftermath of him taking the case. Y'all are the ONLY ppl I've ever heard have such a negative take on this movie…but too each. BTW A Long Kiss Goodnight was also a GREAT movie. I SWEAR I'm gonna re-make EVERY FILM someone says "it can't be made today"… because 10 times outta 10 it can
If you are a Gen X'er and grew up loving blues-based rock bands/artists like the Stones, Zeppelin, Eric Clapton etc., you will most likely know Joe Seneca as, "The one and only Willie Brown", from the movie Crossroads. Surprised that Simmons, as a Gen X'er and a big Walter Hill fan, doesn't know Seneca from there.
Oh, yes – i had need to just comment one thing. Somebody who konwos stuff, confirms, that Long Kiss Good Night is one of the best action movies ever. Excatly it is!!!
As soon as I saw what The Rewatchables movie was going to be, I was excited. But then I saw that Wesley Morris was cohosting and got less excited. He can be a bit of a buzzkill sometimes. I like when the cohost actually like the movie they’re analyzing. They don’t have to think it’s flawless, but at least appreciate it.
This guy should never be on a Rewatchable podcast. All he's doing is giving every reason not to rewatch it. He doesn't seem to know the podcast is called Rewatchable. Plus his takes are mostly wrong.
Just wanted to introduce myself as a white Rufus.
I'm 16 minutes in, and Wesley Morris is really adding the kink to this episode lmao.
The Contender is an underrated courtroom drama
3 good modern courtroom movies; Till, The Judge, and Just Mercy which funnily enough has Michael B Jordan in it
wesley is a tough listen. He sounds like he is yelling all the time. speaks with pauses, pretentious laugh, etc Bad bad podcaster
Oh, something easy to cover. Been on tv for decades. Amazing stuff. So, is The Thing 1982. Not on Disney. No, the Primal Fear loves are not epic. Nor, the Pesci stuff. Yet, enough embrace Bill. lol
