A lot of these endings aren't infuriating I believe it is understood that the director or writers leave it up to the imagination of people. The birds was a great ending I loved how it ended with them driving away from the birds as it fades to black
War of the Worlds has the same ending as it's novel. It's a sci-fi classic for a reason. The Aliens being susceptible to earth pathogens is no different than how easily we are exposed to new viruses every few years. It's inevitable for Humans to lack any real immunity to disease so why would it be different for Extraterrestrials? It's not a dumb ending.
Signs, was inspired by War of the Worlds. I know this because there was a featurette on the sci-fi channel back in the day where M. Night himself said this as it's supposed to be a story of an entirely different family experiencing the invasion and how they survive it.
So, knowing that 's inspired by WotW, and paying very simple attention to the little girl talking about how "there's something in the water" "it's got amoebas in it", it's very obvious that the Aliens aren't weak to water itself, but whatever bacteria that's in it.
The Shape of Water ending does make sense and works really well, if you take into account that the one person who's telling the story is also the one witness that can't verify what happened to her after she goes under the water. So, you can infer that in his retelling of events in the story he makes up that bit himself to give it a more fantastical happy ending.
Who is complaining about interstellar? Nothing is wrong with that movie
While the ending for The Birds was cheap, it was also one of the most effective ways of filling the viewer with a combination of uncertainty, dread, and hope. There are clearly plenty of people that were frustrated with the lack of closure, but the ambiguity felt like the point. Or else Hitchcock would have kept the car case scheme in the movie. Just some random's opinion on the internet. Nothing to see here.

I already knew that I am legend, Rise of Skywalker, Titanic, Interstellar, and The Dark Knight Rises would be one there. Absolutely shitty. They couldn't done better. Of course, everyone can agree with I am legend, Titanic, & Rise of Skywalker. The other two wouldn't be almost as bad as the three I just mentioned IF THEY HAD SEQUELS.

The earth isn't 70% water, it's actually less than a tenth of one percent water, which is why the aliens in signs would have been fine for the most part
I read the book for The Game and I love both the book and the movie!! Movies based on books can be hit or miss but I think this one was a total hit!!
WAR OF THE WORLDS was roughly how HG Wells ended the novel; in the century since its making, the idea of catching something nasty on an alien planet has become more commonplace in science fiction. Wells hero and wife were reunited after giving each other up for dead; the whole family having to work through that was a sensible development of the theme (Well's heroes seldom encumbered themselves with the kids that normal people have)
The Earth is moist, but most of it is saline: An alkali, unlike Ph neutral drinking water. The unarmed aliens might have been an especially little-regarded form of poor bloody infantry, sent ahead to test the metaphorical waters.
Christopher Nolan (along with his bro) does have a bad way with endings. THE PRESTIGE is a mess, implausible even by fantasy standards, compared to Christopher Priest's source novel, which was far more cinematic on the page than what turned up on screen. DUNKIRK also messed up re history, with a British admiral saying 'I'm going back for the French' – which didn't happen, though thousands of French did evacuate while the British were being got off; when British commanders checked whether anyone was left at the beaches and the Mole, thousands of French soldiers who'd been covering the retreat were still there. One worries a bit about how OPPENHEIMER will play out the history: Whether it will point out that, after the A-Bombs were dropped, it was the Allies who made the concession for the Japanese surrender and didn't go after the Emperor.
Rise of Skywalker has an ending so stupid and and contradictory to itās plot itās as straightforward as anyone can be a Jedi even someone by going itās original definition is technically a sith even though she is technically neutral because she can use Sith powers. Goes deeper than that but if people are too stupid to get the easy part, they certainly wonāt get the complicated part. The only thing they messed up was Lukeās character.
02:17: The reason I can forgive this "cheat" at the ending: Christopher Reeve. Watch how this super man, so powerful but yet unable to save his father from a heart attack [check the CPR no human knew about yet] discovers THE woman he loves DEAD b/c he failed to be super enough to save her also… I am not ashamed to admit I still tear up and due to the power of Christopher's presence: He removes her so gently from the wreck, as if afraid to hurt her accidentally…he grieves and weeps over her for HOURS… When Kal El finally decides that This Woman Will NOT Die, I DARE you to not be stirred by the raw ANGER and FURY on his face as he rockets skyward!! Keep your quibbling. It is a comic book movie! OK? Tell me those moments of Kal El shooting skyward angry as any god in myth do NOT move you. G'wan. I dare you.
4:27 While it was a little different from any radio/TV/film adaptation I've experienced, what save the Spielberg "War of the Worlds" for me was this: The dude didn't care about meeting up with scientists, confabbing about the Entities. It was a man trying to keep his family safe in the face of a catastrophe. (That's a lot of bonus points.)
