SALT LAKE CITY (KUTV) — A 2News Investigation revealed that an 18-year-old from Utah with a lengthy juvenile criminal record, had walked away from custody and should not have been behind the wheel.
The Heidi Duehlmeier case serves as an illustration of the collateral consequences faced by surviving victims who were deeply impacted, especially financially, by criminal behavior. Shockingly, our investigation also found the state of Utah has no idea how many cases like this have been paid or what the lifelong challenges have been for the victims.
On a December day in 2020, Heidi Duehlmeier was on her way to her parents’ house to pick up her dog waiting for a red light to change. It was a drive that would forever alter her life as she knew it.
