Single player games will always have a special place in our heart, and in our PS5. These are the top 10 best single player games on PS5.

As much as we love playing with friends, nothing quite beats losing yourself in an immersive single player story, whether it’s discovering a robot dystopia in Stray or exploring, er, a different robot dystopia in Horizon Forbidden West. Don’t worry, this list of PS5 single player games also contains zombie dystopias too. Because you can’t do a 1p game feature without The Last Of Us Part 1.

What makes the best single player games? We’d argue a mix of narrative surprise, emotional depth and mechanical sublimity. PlayStation 5 experiences like Final Fantasy 16, that mash up continental-scale politics with localised moment to moment beatdowns that put Clive in the heat of the fight. Or Uncharted – a perennial PlayStation single player favourite – and the way it never loses sight of heart in the heat of battle.

  5. Played half of this list and it's some of my favorite games of all time! Love a good single player experience. Always looking for more recommendations of games to play that fall under this umbrella.

  6. Personally, I do not care for any of these games, but I see their appeal and understand why they are placed here. Horizon and GoW are really impressive, the rest are strong choices overall. Aside from FFXVI which seems to me the worst since XIII. I only played the demo, but was sooo bored and disliked the world and the art style so very much.

  9. Arguably one of the most underrated stories belongs to the Darksiders franchise. Granted the games are easily tier 2 in terms of gameplay in emulating and combining gimmicks from other top tier games, but I think the story alone behind how they come to be and how the worlds have come to be and the conspiracy behind it all. Come on its good when you get into it. We need a proper Darksiders 4!

  12. I know it's kind of a niche genre/game, but Returnal is probably one of my favorite PS5 games to date. Considering it came from an indie dev (at the time) that typically made 2D side scrollers and isometric TSS games, it's easily one of the most polished experiences on PS5, and I'm excited knowing that Housemarque is making a new IP apparently. Returnal provides dozens of hours of single player fun, a solid co-op experience, and a free DLC that adds more to the storyline as well. The true/secret ending is wildly ambiguous, and people who really sink their teeth into this game will get absolutely engrossed so long as they don't mind the initial difficulty spike. Don't pass on Returnal!

  22. Am I the only one who was disappointed that these are mostly next gen remakes/updates of old games? Doesn’t exactly persuade me to want to buy a ps5 when I’ve played most of these on ps3 and ps4.
