  1. Cheats are for after you've beat the game and just want to have fun, guides are fine and the guide does not play the game for you, especially a souls-like game, you still have to beat that boss and get around. BTW they made aspects of the game easier for more players and I am fine with that, but I start all these games at souls lvl 1 cause i love the challenge

  2. I don't mind the difficulty necessarily, but I HATE that you lose all your runes if you die. After a ton of grinding, it makes me hesitant to explore because of the risk. It sucks to grind only to end up losing everything.

Still- it's not Skyrim. I think the exploration aspect is overrated. It's largely empty space mostly filled with hostile NPCs. It doesn't have the lore, or engaging world something like Skyrim has. The game is mostly about combat, which while difficult, is developed really well.

There definitely is a frustration factor though. I almost quit at the beginning due to frustration, and I did play all those "tough" games as a kid. Unlike being a kid, I'm a working professional. I don't have a ton of time to bury in games like I did as a kid. When I do play games, I want to enjoy them, no to get frustrated of feel "accomplishment". I get plenty of frustration, and feelings of "accomplishment" at work.

  3. In games where the developer clearly states their difficulty as part of their core design philosophy, I think there is no excuse for game urinalists and players to then demand an easy mode. Miyazaki stating the unforgiving nature and generally high difficulty associated with all his games as part of FromSoft's identity is fair enough warning to these people that the game has been DESIGNED that way on purpose from the ground up. If you aren't a fan of those types of difficult games, well then jog on!
Same goes for games like Sifu. It was designed that way ON PURPOSE. The game wants to elicit a specific response from players. If Sifu had a one touch kill mode, it would be a joke and extremely short to boot. It only has like 5 levels and even those aren't that big all things considered. You'd have paid a premium price for a 1 hour experience. Instead, because of its unforgiving difficulty and the devs unrelenting instance that it be DESIGNED that way you get yourself a very fulfilling and enjoyable experience with Sifu where each time you clear a level without aging up, you start the next leg of the game with that much more confidence that you can actually beat the entire thing. But you can only do that by GETTING GOOD!

  5. You'd have to get some types in the monthly Gaming Mags. I remember playing SoN and I was like that's a shitty ending… next months gaming mag showed me…. THERES A WHOLE 50% game I was missing, including the true ending. I didn't know you could flip the castle. The good old times.

  6. I face challenges in Elden Ring and when I die over and over again, I learn and adapt. When I beat a difficult boss, it's incredibly satisfying. It's a shame that the people who have issues with this will never experience this. They are the epitome of children.

  7. Teenagers with a blog account are not "journalists", neither kids streaming a gaming session. They're just Z-gen, crystal made narcissists. Come on dude, you should pay no attention to them.

  8. The game looks amazing but Fromsoftware titles are not my cup of tea. I tried Bloodborne and gave up the second boss. I refuse to even play a From title for free now. I grew up on Atari but as I age my limited free time is too valuable to waste it being frustrated. The games look amazing though.

  9. I will never touch that game with a 10 ft pole because I think these kinds of games are frustrating. But if you're a journalist you owe it to yourself to at least have an objective opinion other than "too hard". They should be able to say what makes it hard and not act as if it's a crime to people who lack fine motor skills as myself 😛 It isn't. We can play other games.

  10. Honest take from a first time "Souls type game" player. I haven't played any of the past Dark Souls type games. Just didn't land on my radar, but now I need to go back and play them. My reason for interest in Elden Ring…I am tired of waiting for the next Elder Scrolls game to come out. And Elden Ring visually looks like what one might find in an Elder Scrolls game. Along with a rich RPG element. Going into the game I was skeptical if I was going to enjoy it, and if I could handle the fact that the game was designed to make you work for your reward. I have only put in about 3-4 hours with the game. And I can honestly say there are moments I have been frustrated almost to the point of snapping my controller in half. But instead I have backed off, gone and thrashed on some easier targets to get some runes to level up and get some better gear and come back and beat what I was battling. The game so far has been a blast. It rewards you for exploring and improving as a player. The way a game should be. If you want a simple game, I recommend sticking with Candy Crush on your phone.

  11. Remember all those guides and tutorials you got with Metroid, Ghosts & Goblins, and Kid Icarus? NES was super easy. I beat all three Ninja Gaidens in 5 hours without even calling the Nintendo Power help line. Now I can't get past Margit and I got so pissed I broke my Artesian PC.

  12. What about the phrase everyone loves a challenge like Jeramy says it’s supposed to be hard it does give you that sense of achievement when you beat a level or something a boss! That’s what it’s for
I struggled so much on dark souls and my friend would play it like it’s mario breezing through I wasn’t mad I kept on at it when I could and got annoyed but I like that game because of what it was

These people want to play the game and go “yeah!! I played it too!! Aren’t we awesome! I play games! Gamer over hereeee look at mee!” Soon figured out some games aren’t just a breeze and can be tough

  13. Jeremy, don’t wait to play this game. It’s so good man, if you liked the other dark souls games you’ll like it. Not sure about others, but I have the ps5 version (on the os5 obviously) and have had no issues.

  14. The mainstream media game journos are activists first and cry babies second. FromSoft Ganes are not for everyone. Not every game has to star a butch Non-binary Character. Hell, Horizon Fucking Woke is a bore-fest because of inherent design choices. I’m disabled and Elden Ring is hammering me badly but eventually I can get through Soulslikes with a bit of thought and get gud bravado. Besides when you’re as good looking as me, it’s good to loose sometimes.

  15. I think most of the complaints should be about how most of the mechanics are copy and pasted from the last half of a dozen games they've released. Best game of all time… yeeah okay. I dont know about most people, but after the hundredth giant boss where you somersault around and take pot shots to take them down after 10 minutes, it starts to get old. Been noticing a lot of the people saying COD, destiny, halo, etc feel stale and samey are also praising this game as GOAT. Very strange.
