This 700bhp Porsche changed racing cars forever

In the 1980s, Porsche created a machine that would take on Le Mans and completely obliterate the competition. The Porsche 962 is a true motorsport legend, and Mike Fernie has been lucky enough to be thrown the keys to one of the twin turbo, ground effects monsters.

  1. Mike defiantly wearing his vintage Silk Cut Jag Le Mans sweater. That purple, with the gold, is still one of the best livery colour combos in my opinion.

  2. Went for the 2nd time this year and it was unreal. The atmosphere, the cars in the camp site. . The cars driving around. I saw a carrera GT. . .just cruzing around by the porsche curves. Its unreal. Drive to it though. . . Ask me how I know ๐Ÿ˜‰

  3. That car should have been disqualified since it used non German parts.
Everyone knows that putting British Leyland components on a race car gives it an unfair advantage. Remember what happened when we put non standard light bulbs in the Original Mini Cooper S at the Montecarlo Rally. It made that car so fast the French had to disqualify it !
I put it to you Sir that the inclusion of Austin tail lights gives this machine the dominant edge it held for all the years this cheating was overlooked. ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

  4. Audi builds great cars but they still havenโ€™t figured this segment of cars out. Compared with the competition from Mercedes and BMW the Audi S6 is less powerful than the equivalent competition. The S6 should have at least 500 horsepower to compete with cars like the BMW M550i with 523 horsepower. Instead you get 80 horsepower less or have to pay up and get the RS6 with roughly 80 horsepower more. Audi should have kept the twin turbo 4.0 liter V8 which is used in this previous generation.

  6. No doubt one of the most beautiful looking race cars I have ever seen! Down to the blue and yellow and short tail.
The emotions on boost was so fun to hear!

  7. That sense of overwhelming emotion from driving such an incredible car is totally normal. Alex had the same, after driving Lambos in Italy, I had the same after driving a McLaren 570. The sheer joy can't really be expressed in any more pure way. ๐Ÿฅน

  8. EVERY race car post 1986 had to have the pedals behind the front axle, not just Group C, even down to Formula Ford. Before that the driver's feet and ankles were the first to arrive at the scene a frontal accident. After that there were several years trying to balance the cars again with the driver mass moved back. That's why FFord van Dieman RF86 were beating the later RF87 and RF88 and why driver like me (almost 180cm) got more uncomfortable.
