'Running out of time': Missing sub rescue mission involves 'so many unknowns'

University of Adelaide Associate Professor Eric Fusil says rescue crews “need a lot of luck” to save the passengers onboard the Titan submarine.

“We’re running out of time, we need to swarm everything in,” Mr Fusil told Sky News Australia.

“There is a new ship that has arrived… the Victor 6000 (it) can create an acoustic map of the sea bottom, but the area is so vast that we need a lot of luck to find the Titan in time.

“If the Victor 6000 can find her, (it has) two robotic arms that could basically disentangle the Titan if she were to be stuck within debris or the reck … and give her a gentle push towards the surface.

However, “there are so many unknowns at the moment” that rescuing the passengers off the submarine “is really a long stretch”, he said.

  1. This is going to sound really dark but the best scenario in this situation is that the submarine caved under pressure and just blew up upon decent. It would have been an instant and painless death and they wouldn’t be sitting at the bottom of a pitch black freezing ocean slowly running out of oxogen. If they are alive they won’t be rescued in time at this point even if they found them right now they are thousands of feet below the ocean

  2. Sirs, professional workers are suppose to create any submarines, past present, and future. You want to prove that a certain group of people can do it, right? Now that a disaster has happened I hope and pray that these people learned a lesson. Hire a professional workers for the creation of submarines. Trust I'd ok if it is not deadly in the future.ignore it, it might turn out deadly for them.

  3. The captain probably got pissed and threw the controls lmao. Their fault for getting on it tho, cuz I'm pretty sure it was reported multiple times not to be safe and it had also been reported to OSHA if I'm not mistaken

  4. The sea takes and it never surrenders. When I started researching this I couldn’t believe it. The military doesn’t go to those depths. The marine life that lives down there looks like shit from your nightmares. There have been some whales and other mammals that have went to extreme depths but not that far down. Every dive was reckless not risky. Even some of the people on board are culpable for this. I feel bad for the boy. Our immortality is a hard moment to face at any age. At 19, probably completely unacceptable to him. So many people let so many down. Especially the guy that didn’t speak up. The Titanic is a very lonely graveyard that should be left alone.

  5. This situation is terrible and it seems there wasn't any clear thinking about offering such a tourist trip in the first place. From reports it also seems that they lost contact when only half way down so could be much further away than they think. I am beginning to wonder if they will ever find it. We all hope they do and that it's still a rescue.
