I'm probably only going to play Lost Ark for PvP where there is no grind whatsoever. The honing system sucks absolute balls and the game just wants you to rat race all around the world to do repetitive world events that are annoying to get to.
I really do not understand the situation. Does p2w matter in this game, no. But is it p2w, ya. Just because it does not matter (if someone wants to do the grind instead of pay, that is there prerogative) does not magically make the ability to pay and get better stuff and/or get stuff faster not p2w. (This comment is specifically about p2w aspect, not whether the game is doomed because of it)
Some ppl ask why does it matter if players have fun. Maybe now it doesnt because everyone enjoying lvling and early end game. Further we get with game the worst it will look. Money will be more and more important because you need better gear to enter later raids. DIvium Furor showed what happened on russian server which is pretty dead by now. It can happen again on EU/NA but it doesnt have to.

If you value your time then you will understand that appreciating a game is more than just rushing to the end. What it sounds like more so is that you value your money and you value easy games or games with quick progression. Is this meta that you have to be the 1st or the fastest is is it is a plague not just in gaining but literally in most Western culture. It's a fucking big Dick show but everyone has tiny dicks.
So if you value your time then why are you playing a game or doing things that you don't just already enjoy. Like being a musician or an artist do you not think it takes years of grinding and practicing to get to what we would call the end game playing shows or having art galleries in selling your product. If you don't enjoy something for the build-up then you're not going to enjoyed at the end either. Stop worrying about having to be the fastest or 1st and just enjoy your time that's how you value your time. If you can enjoy something without being the best or the fastest or number one then you're obviously living the wrong life. And that's a lesson for more than just gaming.
Stoopz put out a video on how to easily get over 1100 gear score for free. You act like an elitist when it comes to FF but complain this game locks content behind an easily achievable gear score. Make up your mind, are you a pussy or not? Pay to win or not, it’s a fun game. I always notice the people who cry the hardest about pay to win are people without jobs that can play a game 12 hours a day. I’d agree if it was really pay to “win,” but it’s more like pay “for convenience or to get things done faster.”
These videos are funny, but inflammatory. Issuing that you value your time implies that anything but T3 is a waste of time. I’ve just hit T2 as F2P (not grinding) and have enjoyed it so far. Everyone acts like a new mmo should be your new life investment. Or replace your old MMO. It doesn’t have to. It can just be a game to go to when you are bored of your main games. In the end I have spent more money and “wasted more time” on 14 in the 1 year, than I have ever on any other game P2W F2P pay to yadda yadda whatever category. Haven’t regretted it. Yeah the game is P2W. Don’t care. All I care about. Fun or not fun. Once no fun? No play
Amongold and Rich were or are part of the promotion with Twitch to get in game stuff if you watch them play LA for a given number of hours.
I was having a great time playing it for about a week until I hit the gear upgrade wall. Is disgusting they do the f2p mobile game thing of showering you with materials and engravings and gems at the beginning of the game, enough to get you hooked but then it stops and you have to go all around the place scrapping form materials. I never even got to 600 ilevel which is required to continue to playing the story.
Wait there are 50 levels? I stopped at around 27 and have been pvping since. I thought that was endgame
Korean mmo is always grindy as fuck. You need to no life the game with multiple alts for months to get to the same gear point of a p2w player who whale in the cash shop for a few day. Minmaxing is literally impossible for f2p player unless you are extremely lucky.
Stoopz has been jumping on every hype bandwagon since the dawn of time and every time he jumped to a game, the game was a train wreck. Thats why he is super defensive about LA seeing how his channel is actually doing really well thanks to this game.
i think we need to define "winning." If gear score alone is winning, then sure its pay to win. However, buying gear score and then proceeding to get shit on by every high level encounter in this game cause you have absolutely no idea how to play it isnt really what i'd call "winning."

The combat is fun, but when i got to ilevel 500 it was clear that the RNG crafting element ramps out of control to where the game makes you feel like you have to spend money. I promptly uninstalled the game at that point

For now, I'm enjoying the main scenario / story and while a bit egregious from a western perspective, I know cash shops are obviously the norm in other MMOs like this. I'll see how it gets at end game eventually but I might take the D3 approach and just play casually. As others said there might be paying for convenience but how far down the rabbit hole does one want to go?
This divium guy is kinda genius. He stitches together compelling but misleading videos based on incomplete or just wrong information (like how Pheon only works that way in RU), and because it plays to the narratives people want to have, he’s growing immensely and everyone’s reacting to it.

this still doesn't talk about the time gating and completely neglects the gold/blue crystals you earn while going through that, sure you can buy the last 5% of power but who really gives a fuck if you have fun
Six months versus a couple days to unlock end raid content is pretty baffling. Also the stat differences at the higher levels are pretty substantial. Definitely puts pressure to spend if you want to experience that content in a timely manner.
The “pay to win” argument is a misnomer. We ought to be talking about Lost Ark like we do for single player games like Assassin’s Creed that specifically design the game to be grindy or boring so they can sell you cash shop items to skip. This is what Lost Ark’s design is at the core and it’s not just end game gearing, it’s in the player housing, the gathering, the customization, etc. Its just not in the PvP. Lost Ark wants you to pay money to not play the game.
I think P2W is different for everyone and imo LA is not P2W and i'll explain why:
1) You can use money to get golds and buy stuff in-game but will it make you a better player? No. Imagine someone who buy mats, boost or whatever and try to do Abrel right after. He'll get destroyed… yes you can whale to go faster but you can't pay to get better at the game.
2) PVP is equalized, your gear, engravings, runes, etc. doesn't matter, you can't cheese your damage/res to be better you need skills.
PS: Ranked pvp can only be queued in solo & its 3v3.
3) Ranked PVE is ALSO equalized, you can make your own build BUT the stats stay the same. P2W?? I don't think so.
Saintone (huge LA content creator) explained that he spent a lot of money on LA for content, around 17k if i remember correctly and he explained that people in F2P can reach his gear or really close to it in few weeks now. Was it worth? Content wise probably but in general no. He also explained that for a lot of money you can gain something like 3% damage, hey if someone want to pay to deal 3% damage more than me in my party i'll take it 🤷♂ it doesn't affect me as a player.
If you guys really wanna see a game that waste your time & money, check Black Desert. When you fail an upgrade your gear downgrade, if you fail an accessory upgrade it break and you have to go grind another 6-10h+ to get back what you lost PLUS you have to repair your gear everytimes it fail.
PS: You can pay real money to protect your gear or buy outfits on the market
I understand why people think Lost Ark is P2W (and like a said, everyone have his own deffinition of P2W) but imo if the ranking system is equalized there's no issue and like a said, you can't just go right away and clear the last dungeon and be a pro just with gear.
Reminds me of another korean game that was already in the west for years now. Like only 100 – 200 people were playing it last i checked and most of those players are not even from NA but from EU and SEA. This game is going down that path.

Im trying to go into this game with the "just enjoy it while it lasts" mindset, but betwen the horribly longwinded and boring story and questing, the mobile game menus, obnoxious upgrade systems, and farmville stronghold Its so hard to give a shit about this game and not just play anything else.
Yeah I dont really care about the P2W because I'm not trying to do anything high end in this game. I'm just playing it in the meantime when I want to take a short break from FF. Not even level 50 yet.
Also, frankly, I dont think most people care about P2W as people would have you believe. Most mmo players are very casual. Xeno is kind of in a bubble as a high end raider so that seems to be his mindset going in.
I thought FF community isn't toxic? Guess every fanbase is. Out of all MMO fanbase out there, FF community is the least I'd expect to be the one who talks bad about other games. You can't even whale for PvP in Lost Ark and it's the least P2W compared to gazillion other asian games.

Lost Ark is NOT Pay2Win, It's Pay4Convience. You can't buy Power and that's the real story. If you can't see that you obviously haven't played the game. just watched some streams, stroked your beard, heard a bunch of fuckin idiots bitching about nothing, because this isn't really an MMO, it's a Dungeon-Crawler, Korean Style. If you want sweaty MMO trappings then you are playing the wrong game dudes.
Here my take
A) it's not 6 months with the current release tbh. i dont see way ppl acted they will never see t3 meanwhile even the f2p RELEASE players already well in to t3 after days of hardcore farming yes it takes time to progress like most other mmos. Why some people acting as if there is no content if you are not 1500 itemlevel lol game offers you 1000+ hours easy with amazing ammount fun content to do.
B) Others P2w aspect DO NOT affect you in anyway, if someone swipe it's for their own gear and progress.
C) Game is somewhat beautiful despite low spec requirements, all classes super fun to play.
D) PVP Equalized unlike other games it's quiet fun (you cant measure "fun" but general opinion towards that way)
I don't see why people whine and moan about top tier content where they mostlikely never be able to see as in other games they play anyway. it's "ff14 omg ultimates this hard and that impossible" or LFR raiders moaning about how hard mythic raids all over again.
Game is quiet fucking good guys that it worth your time and have shit ton of content to occupy you long time without feelling obligated to paying a single dime.
I say give it a go it's just 50~gb see if you like it before making prejudicious desicions.
