Lost Ark is an absolutely enormous world, filled to the brim with collectibles, dungeons, bosses and gear. Not all of it is necessary, some of it is tedious, but the bulk of this massive online game is fun, and engaging.
Free to play, and recently launched for western markets by Amazon Game Studios, Lost Ark is a game I was happy to review as it catapults itself to the top of steam, and twitch, with over a million concurrent players.

I got to the point of the stronghold and went "nope. This is the straw that broke the camel's back. There's just TOO much going on for me to ever hope to keep track of."
nice
My problem is "launched on Steam for western markets" and I refuse to play through crappy russian client so I can't get access to the game.
Watching till the end of the video, I had a feeling its good I don't have access
I’m skipping past the cutscenes and everything lol. My goal is to get to the point where all my friends are currently so we can play together. I just started and they’ve been playing for awhile.
I enjoyed some of the 'hard' dungeons, but my god the questing was a snorefest and the story is uninspired. I will give the dungeons and raids a try but so far it's been the worst mmo experience for me.
For what it is. Which is a ftp game. I've enjoyed it. Combat is fun and engaging but I won't give them a penny.
It’s a good game but there are some big issues such as P2W at endgame, insane amount of botters now and gold sellers. While it may have a large player count, I would bet money that a lot of those ‘players’ are bots/scripters. Head to any of the levelling zones and you’ll see dozens if not hundreds of bots running around. It makes the game feel incredibly cheap and dirty.
If only they offered sponsorship like raid shadow legends did, then all these reviews would be magically positive.
I feel like this is RuneScape with better graphics and mobile game tendencies….
That is actually what is driving my enjoyment out of trying to get to the end game, the quest system is a non entity, the story hits every generic saviour good boy marker in existence, it feels like there is going to be a lot of dynasty warriors style end game of mindless horde killing but the levelling process feels….
Doesn’t feel cheap to me. I feel like there’s a lot of hate on everyone the cut scenes where awesome. And there’s not supposed to be a challenge. I don’t get how people say it’s linear when most of these zones are huge. End game is everything in this game.
So basically its like any other f2p eastern mmo we have seen a million times?
I quote * the story feels cheap and already done in the past * BRO … literraly every fucking movie on earth or game dont have a masterpiece of a story … u are just exagerating here …. plz
Hey man I almost never see your videos in my subscriptions tab. Wanted to let you know in case that's something that can be fixed
Before I watch the video… ima just say yes
great review on an amazing channel ty!
this game is trash , the reason why its suddenly became soo popular just simply because its soo trash that not even one agent run a Chinese server for it but there just so many people love this kinda trash and run into the US server . and again this game is a complete trash .
Yeah, after 80 hrs I'm already losing interest in the game tbh, way too many things needed for progression that I have no interest in doing and then something you can only do once a week like abyss dungeons which is dumb imo. The actual gameplay itself is easy and haven't felt challenged once yet. If you just play f2p for a bit of a time sink its ok but the game isn't doing it for me. Just my opinion though. They really didn't need as many different currencies as they have, it's just way over the top to make you think its got more depth than it really has. The gameplay itself is actually pretty good its just everything else they decided to tack on to the game that's ruining it for me. I have no interest in gathering, the stronghold, gathering fking mokoko seeds etc…, building rapport with the endless number of npc's I give no shits about. The most enjoyable thing I've done so far was the abyss dungeons and like I already mentioned you can only do those once a week. I'm sure there's a story, I skip through all that and still get the gist but I just don't care about it.
Then there's the rng aspect, I'm fine with rng for the most part as it's part of many games but this games has kicked it up a notch when even gear has quality levels which is just rng on top of rng, then upgrading items leads to more rng and wasted resources that you can only gain so much of a day as it is and even when you have an 80% chance to upgrade but fail a few times in a row leaves you wondering about if that's really 80% or not.
Ultimately I think the game is overhyped and the numbers of players people keep bringing up will drop rather fast over the coming months as people get bored or tired of all the shit that didn't need to exist in the game.
The beginning area has gotten me to log off period..I cannot go further cause of it…sure the later game might be good but I do not want to waste me time..
welcome to asian mmo? I guess
PvP is definitely the highlight of the game, sadly the surrounding systems are very basic. It's really just an afterthought, which is understandable. There really isn't anything to monetize in the equalized Arena, so developers don't really have much incentive to add more stuff into it. I do hope they expand on the PvP aspect of the game, but after nearly 3 years they haven't really done anything with it.
So it is basically the same lottery simulator seen in other "free" games but the tickets are distributed this time by hourglass shaped hot korean babes. Great! But it's still a lottery simulator.
Long time MMO vet, it's not bad but yes, it is quite overhyped.
So far I have reached Softcap with two characters and done a bunch of endgame content.
TL;DR: It's free if you like what you see try it out, just don't waste your money on it, there are much better MMOs if you want to spend money. The Asian market sure puts up with a lot of shit to consider something "good".
Bad:
-Combat with trash mobs looks cool, but every single attack CCs so there is no real danger or skill involved.
-PvP similarly is CC to win, I like how they balance the playing field but certain classes (*cough* Sorcerer *cough*) are just better. However I can see some people enjoying it.
-Most story lines are boring and 90% of sidequests undisguised fetch quests.
-Servers are just shitting the bed constantly, queues are to be expected and have been in plenty of launches before so that's nothing new. But the Aura people payed for not working for days on end isn't.
-Same goes for matchmaking that hasn't worked since release on peak hours.
-Some performance issues, mostly occasional stutter, a classic UE thing.
-Game is undeniably P2W (imo it doesn't matter too much since PvE but it still is), you can buy gold, bypass different limitations and of course the aura system.
-To get loot from Raid bosses you need to bid on the drops vs other players, unlike roll for it like 99% of MMOs. Clearly giving a huge advantage to the whales who bought and keep buying gold.
-Lifeskilling is generic as shit with an added Stamina/Labour system on top. Just no.
-No transmog system of some sort, in current year. Who thought of this? (clearly to sell skins and dyes for said skins)
-Poorly explained mechanics. Weakspot and counter being the poster children of this. While doing a boss you get a window that says something among the lines of "Boss is shielded, do weakspot damage" all the while you are trying to avoid a boss. The fuck does that mean?
-Convoluted currency systems on top of currency systems.
Stronghold feels way out of place with a very limited customization, everything just ends up looking the same.
-Awakening using consumables is hella weird, but they are cheap enough to get.
-Requires the use of Alt characters. Fuck off
-Insane pricing on the cash shop. 30$ for a name change? Yes please
Good:
-Bosses, dungeons and world including the ones you do while leveling are almost all great.
-While sailing itself is nothing great, the 90 or so islands you can visit whenever you want are pretty fun sometimes there's a dungeon, sometimes there are talking rocks, sometimes you spend 2 hours opening boxes for a fucking island token.
-There are a lot of collectibles that make exploration more interesting. Special monsters, chests, seeds and so on. (don't like it? Don't engage with it)
-Some really cool cutscenes with actual animation involved.
-Skill system allows for enough customization and at the same time allows you to change them for free at any time.
As much as I like the game, can’t help but agree with everything here.
To me it felt like any asian mobile mmo game, albiet without an auto pathing system. Really not exciting at all.
The storyline is utter shit. I'm 6 hours in and have started skipping ALL of the cutscenes and basically spam "G" during the dialog so I don't read ANYTHING about the quests. I just look at the quest objectives after the shit dialogue and cutscenes are over. All FedEx delivery quests that even Morrowind 20+ years ago could do better. I'm sick and tired of the assholes who then argue "it gets better after X hours" – this is 2022 and having a shit game opening is inexcusable, especially for an MMO. I'm going to stick it out for another 6 hours. If it hasn't improved by then, I'll be giving it a negative review on Steam.
When I played the beta, all I felt was exactly what he said in the beginning: it feels like a browser f2p game.
convinced people only like this game because its so easy and also free.
The combat is terrible.
It's literally just a flashy coat on a mobile game.
Yes, it’s overhyped
8/10 for me… game is gorgeous, so much to do, very friendly for players who dont want to rush…
the only NEGATIVE is – HUGE queues for EU players… looks like NA dont have this problem. Or at least not that big of a deal.
I will admit I was checked out of the story till the siege battle and then that one moment happened and pulled me into the game more and I WANTED to pay attention even if it felt a bit tedious at times the sheer spectacle of was happening made me want to know more about the world. As a old rpg player it felt odd to not like the story but the action make me want to know more even if it was standard rote stuff for a lot of it.
It's very overhyped, Last Epoch is better.
Didn't like it initially; then came to reeeeeeally enjoy it… but after a few days of grinding, it really sinks in of how suuuuper flat/linear/repetitive of an experience it really is. At least a game like Guild Wars 2 has awesome puzzles and story to back it up…. Lost Arks writing/lore + voice acting/etc is awfuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuul
I think I'll end up sticking with Grim Dawn and checking in on New World from time to time. Or try out FFIV to see if I actually like it. But I have to get at least one alt to level 55 in Lost Ark just because I said I would, not because I really want to.
Street fighter 6 copied your logo
Tbh the moment you get the pass, you just finish the tutorial.
It looks so easy and easy is what I've heard.
Imo reviews would benefit from a section dedicated to difficulty/challenge with so many games these days turning out to be mind numbing button mashers.
Idc how many buttons you give me, how complex you make talent/gear systems or how many enemies there are if the enemies are paper. If you can beat the dungeons while everyone in party is distracted watching youtube/writing a paper etc. etc. it's just not interesting to me anymore. At all.
I installed and uninstalled within the hour of playing it. Too much flash and not enough story.
