Four indigenous children are being treated in the hospital after surviving in the Amazon rainforest for 40 days after a plane crash. One of them says their mother survived the crash but died four days later. The children were rescued on Friday. Genevieve Glatsky, a reporter-researcher for the the New York Times Andes bureau, joins CBS News to discuss.

Amazing 2 last so long!
Was rescue so successful cuz of mayday or did they even get 2 send out an sos? We don't know what caused crash, so it's hard 2 say if it was in good working condition.
Im sure they were counting on many factors 2 have best possible outcome…
1. Beacon gave general area of search.
2. Kids can't have traveled so far away w/da lil ones in tow.
3. Probability of injuries slowing movement.
4. Lack of sustenance(although it sounds like their foraging skills are on point), being out dat long, has 2 wear u down.
Then again, sounds like they have excellent teachers of their indigenous tribe, learning ways of da land! Their determination 2 survive & knowledge is no brainer!
I can't imagine how hard it'd've been for them 2 see momma die & have 2 leave her there.
Hope they've been able 2 see dad while in hosp. Being in fear of his life woulda put him in predicament at such a trying time
