Shocking Supreme Court ruling in favor of Black Alabama voters and John Roberts' possible role

The Supreme Court Ruled 5-4 in favor of Black voters in a congressional redistricting case in Alabama, with two conservative justices, Roberts and Kavanaugh, joining the three liberals in rejecting a Republican-led effort to weaken a landmark voting rights law. What this means for other states with similar maps negatively impacting voters of color is discussed by Joy Reid and her panel.

  1. 7:42 the south is where half of black Americans live 🥴, WRONG

the USA south aka black American (descendants of USA chattel slavery) is where majority of black Americans live 60%, but joy is an African/Caribbean IMMIGRANT via NYC, therefore I would NOT expect her to know that

  2. Looks like Kavanaugh might be trying to clean up his awful reputation after watching the disastrous GOP and it's most recent Behavior. However, one good vote won't make up for his many bad votes against the people.

  3. Although both parties have done it, Gerrymandering needs to be outlawed by a Congressional Amendment. State maps should ONLY be determined by population and administered by a nonpartisan counsel.
Republicans though, will NEVER agree to this as Gerrymandering is how they took control of State House's across the nation. In fact, several Republicans have boasted about it and said that without Gerrymandering, no republican would ever be elected again.
Republicans like to claim an election wasn't fair when they lose, but when they win illegally by voter suppression, it's what the voters "wanted".
One last fact, the conservative Supreme Court wouldn't let States decide ANYTHING, if they didn't have a gerrymandered GOP majority in place.

  4. The blacks were originally the republican party. All are equal. That gave you voting rights, it gave you freedom from slavery, it gave you positions in government. Why have you gone to the left? You must watch the inconvienent truth about the democratic party. Once you have seen that, you will come home to your original party. You have been duped for a long time. If you want to be seen as equal, you must come home to the republican party. They ended slavery, they gave you voting rights, they gave you civil rights in the 60`s. Why would you ever go left with all the rights the right gave you in the first place?

  5. You need an Independent Electoral Commission where it is 50/50 balance of power. Each State should have an electorate where either party can win the seat. Where one party is dominate an equally dominate seat is created. Alabama for example should have 2 seats Republican, 2 Seats Democrat and 3 Seats that can go either way. Vote out each party at the end of 2 terms.

  6. Republican party is truly the racist party that ban Black history, anti-abortion, anti-LGBTQ,

immigrant law requiring all Latinos & Asians (living in US) to provide multiple ID for everything.

  7. People are reacting without even know what exactly was happening, nor what the district bounderies were. I'm not even sure of they were being accused of cracking or packing districts. Either way arguments can be made and people will just blindly clap like seals. It's actually really weird because some people are arguing for districts to be based on race — that racial demographics should be the basis for drawing districts, which makes no sense.

Finally, other news gets the chance for attention and is not hijacked by greedy T.

  9. SC the birthplace of the civil war. The place where the democratic party started the civil war. They succeeded from the union to prevent the abolishment of slavery .Your viewers who are interested in the truth should take a look at" An inconvenient truth about the democratic party".
