Queensland Maroons coach Billy Slater has dismissed the “outside noise” surrounding his Origin game one squad as he faces backlash for dropping big-name stars.
Slater has overlooked Newcastle duo Kalyn Ponga and Dane Gagai, instead choosing youngster Reece Walsh and Dolphins’ Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow.
“The balance is focusing on what you can control and blocking out the outside news … that’s all irrelevant for us,” he said during a media conference.
