What is the name of the mod that shows a tooltip for the items you're looking at in the world? I don't think I have that in my playthrough and it would be SO handy.

scav hand-in point next to four empty wooden chests – that's a perfect setup to just put the stuff people need in a chest and avoid chucking stuff on the ground completely
