Timothy Dalton is my kinky favorite Bond. The first movie is great. He's a brilliant actor anyhow.
I hope you're going to watch Casino Royale with David Niven. Best theme and an absolute hoot.
Little background info: The scenes playing in Bratislava were actually also shot in Vienna (my home city by the way😁), so for the respective scenes they had to swap the Austrian license plates for Czechoslovakian ones. When the then mayor of Vienna – who seems to have been a "James Bond" fan – heard about the film project, he jokingly gave his allowance, that if it perhaps was necessary for the movie to blow up some Viennese subway stations, they shall go for it.😁
By the way, it was so funny to see you struggeling with such a simple name like "Georgi" (latterly aka "Progy" 🤣🤣🤣). ❤
Don't you guys know Duran Duran? It was the biggest pop band in the early 80's 😀
10:21 Actually you have seen him – he's one of the baddies in 'Die Hard' and 'Mission Impossible'. He's a retired ballet dancer !
This was a great reaction! I’m so happy you both enjoyed the movie! Timothy Dalton was my favorite Bond; Dalton is so underrated as an actor.
Watching you two trying to work out a plot above the level of a romcom is hilarious 😄
A-ha who were responsible for the song The Living Daylights are in fact a Norwegian band based in London.
Their most well known song was Take On Me from the 1980s.
Lead singer is Morten Harket.
A-ha made a lot of great songs and are highly respected back in their own country of Norway and most of Scandinavia, Japan, Australia and the United kingdom.
Dalton is very underrated I do love BOTH of his films, Funny enough Peirce Brosnan was supposed to be Bond in this one but had to pull out because of the TV show he was in got greenlit for another season after initially being canceled.
Yes Q is the Same guy throughout all the movies till his death in real life, they only Recast him in the Craig films in Sky Fall.
The original films loosely continue off each other The film after George Lazenby On Her Majesty's Secret Service is Diamonds are Forever which has Sean Connery BACK as Bond and it takes place Right after with him seeking revenge for Tracys Death.
I'd Love you guys to do all the films, or all the Brosnan films at the very least!
The 2nd best bond for me , love hes two Bond films
I report in an hour. Make that an hour and ten minutes.
'We're inside a Russian airbase in the middle of Afganistan' is the funniest Bond line ever imo.
One of my all time faves. I’m with you both, it took quite a lot of viewings before I fully grasped Koskov and Whitaker’s scheme. This might be the most convoluted plot
I've been watching Bond movies since the 70s and from my point of view, the time line of the series didn't get messed up until Albert Broccoli died and the studio decided to RE BOOT the whole series with Daniel Craig as James Blond and Judi Dench as M
Its nice see a movie where i can hear my slovak language.
Bond/ Dalton was the bad guy in Hot Fuzz
In the footage you cut where the stunt guy was clinging on to the netting, he wasn't supposed to be tossed around as violently. They encountered unexpected turbulence and he barely managed to hold on. When they reviewed the footage they decided to use it and cut to Dalton being thrown back into the plane.
At 14:25 – are you thinking 'that's Gimli from Lord of The Rings?' If you, aren't, you should be lol. Edit: never mind, you get it at 18:57. Annoying when a memory is just not quite coming to you eh?
0:50 it was a continuing Bond-Universe up to the last Pierce Brosnan Bond. With the Daniel Craig ones started a reboot.
Not only the character of Bond was assumed to be always the same person, also some villains (Ernst Stavro Blofeld was played by three totally different looking actors).
41:37 Timothy Daltons interpretation of Bond is seem by a lot of people more in line with the James Bond from the novels.
You need to do Goldeneye!!
It's a shame that you only got to see actor William Gotell as Russian General Gogol towards the end of the film. I think this was his final appearance in the Bond series. If you eventually react to the other films you will see him make appearances as General Gogol, the head of the KGB. Octopussy was perhaps his biggest involvement in the Bond films.
From what I've heard, Gogol was originally meant to be the character that Bond meets when he forces himself into the hotel room. But because Gotell was ill at the time the part was rewritten and John Rhys-Davies stepped in as Pushkin. So General Gogol makes his brief appearance at the end.
I'm a Pierce Brosnan man Goldeneye to The World is Not Enough. Die Another Day was meh. I don't mind the other Bonds though.
The sound of the actual film was way too low, compared to the sound of the two of you talking. FYI.
You skipped the one where Bond has 'stern words' with 'someone' about killing 'someone else'!
No part of any parked vehicle may be less than 3 metres from the landside side of an airfield fence or less than two metres from the fenceline when airside! Those mobile stairs were right over the fence!! Eh, maybe they have different rules in Afghanistan. 😄
A few things of note:
Timothy Dalton also voiced the stuffed hedgehog known as Mr. Pricklepants in Toy Story 3; the actor who played henchman Necros (Andreas Wisniewski) is also well known in "Die Hard" as the first terrorist to be killed by John McClane; the actor who played Kamran Shah (Art Malik) is widely known as the villain Aziz in the film "True Lies" starring Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Timothy Dalton was a great Bond — and the one most like the Ian Fleming Bond characterization in the books. Second only to Sean Connery (the "original"), with Danial Craig being "2B." It's a shame Dalton never had his opportunity to really hit his stride and cement his place with a third Bond movie. He was the victim of long delays in-between movies thanks to Bond franchise legal and monetary disputes in court that held up production. By the time all that got resolved and Bond movies got cleared to start production again, Dalton withdrew from Bond out of care and concern for the character because he believed he had become "too old" to credibly portray Bond (he wanted to avoid Roger Moore's mistake of staying a tad bit "too long" in the role of 007). Interestingly, Timothy Dalton had also exhibited rare self-denial and concern for the Bond character much earlier in his career too. A trained Shakespearean stage actor, Dalton had been offered to play Bond after Sean Connery gave up the role … but at that time he believed himself to be "too young" to credibly play a grizzled MI6 00 agent. Timothy Dalton was probably the first and only Bond actor who placed concern for the credibility of the Bond role and the good of the Bond franchise above his own pecuniary self-interest and natural selfish desire to play 007. That self-awareness, self-discipline, and selflessness also adds to the Greatness of Timothy Dalton's Bond legacy.
Although Dalton is a vast improvement over an ageing Roger Moore, his 2 movies didn't fair so well at the U.S. box office. Some blame it on Indiana Jones, others on first choice Brosnan having to replaced at the last minute due to TV contract issues. Personally, I think Dalton was very good but he needed a better story than the one he was given.
Please watch Licence to Kill – fantastic movie and gem among the franchise
The way Timothy Dalton played Bond was heavily criticised at the time, his version of Bond is much darker than the Bonds that had come before him, I personally like his portrayal of 007
Love the theme music
I think you're half right Cassie. James Bond was always just one guy no matter who was playing him until the Daniel Craig ones where they imply that whoever is the current 007 has the alias James Bond. I think it was just a concession to the fact James was never ageing whillst we went from microfilm to modern tech.
I've said it before and it's unpopular but my justification of different actors is that M, Q, Moneypenny and Bond are all codenames. The reason he mentions the wife is to keep up with the public profile of the alias or because the new Bond was briefed about the previous Bond.
You need to watch Red Dawn with Patrick Swayze Charlie Sheen
People talk about Craig making Bond gritter and more hard-edged. Dalton did that in 1987.
You didn’t recognize the guy who James Bond saved in the beginning and who kissed him was the bad guy opposite Harrison Ford in The Fugitive.
Honestly this has become one of the few highlights of my week, thank you 🙂
If you're only watching 2 Pierce Brosnan Bonds, Goldeneye has to be next right?
I cannot decide whether I should or should not be looking forward to their reaction to the decompression tank scene in "License to Kill"…
I don't think they're ready… 😬
Koskov was interested in buying guns from Whitaker which Koskov would have continued and possibly increased (likely receiving a cut for himself from Whitaker) once Pushkin was removed but the main scheme was to sell afghan opium in the Western markets. They had to smuggle diamonds because the afghans were not interested in currency payments in that part of the world.
Timothy Dalton's Bond laid the foundation for what would become Daniel Craig's Bond.
If I ever become an actor I'm changing my name to James Lazer.
Please finish the Mandalorian
