“An otherworldly hypothesis on the Origin of Life”
April 12, 2023
Description:
The Panspermia hypothesis states that the seeds of life exist all over the Universe and can be propagated through space from one location to another. As an astrobiology study, the panspermia hyppothesis suggest that Origins of Life (OoL) on Earth started when extraterrestrial ‘seeds’ of life arrived on early Earth. Mahendran Sithamparam will present perspectives on how using material-based substances, known as polysters, as a panspermia seed in relation to OoL could introduce a major difference.
Speaker’s information:
Mahendran Sithamparam is a PhD student at the National University of Malaysia (UKM). His research aims to synthesize and expose polymeric gels in the simulated outer space environment. His research interests are concerned with the fields of space science, biochemistry, and astrobiology. He holds a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from UCSI University. Currently, he is at ELSI, Tokyo Institute of Technology as visiting scholar to do a part of his research.
