41:05 ANTHROPOCENE PARK.
You guys should debate Saintitchief on tlou2.
53:00 Why don't people complain about the movie differing from the book? The characters are better fleshed out in the movie, and the book has a lot of catastrophe cavalcades with few breather scenes.
I think I remember Doug Walker's take on Malcolm. He thought his character was annoying, rather than charming and wasn't acted well.
He has a lot of bad takes.
0:43 “Somehow Pala-saur has retuned.”
This stream really makes you believe in superchats
I’m sitting here and I’m starting to think “wow, is fringy REALLY there?” This EFAP mini makes you BELIEVE in fringy
The New Planet of the Apes movies are actually pretty fun as I remember. Its been a while since I saw them so I don't know how well they hold up, but I think rags would find them enjoyable. Perhaps Rags does not like monke? Good doge no like monke?
JP2 is better than JP3. I will fight for this opinion, that JP3 is worse.
A JP remake with a very different tone would be more worthwhile than another sequel. I'd be interested but it's likely too risky.
I’m with Rags. By all accounts Caesar is an interesting portrayal and people get something out of the Apes films, I’d watch it with a group that wanted to, but even down to the concept the idea of an Ape Apocalypse and the world after just doesn’t excite me for some reason, never picked them up. It’s not a criticism, it’s just not for me.
Ha! Fringy's a Bird!
"A surprise, to be sure, but a welcome one." – Senator Palpatine on his nomination for Supreme Chancellor in Star Wars episode 1, The Phantom Menace.
Why must the mini be so mini.
I want efap to rank 30 Barbie movies. Fringy must be part of the watch party too.
I love both JP book and film but yeah they are very different in fact no one scene happens the exact way it did in the book. Which is funny because The book's author was literally one of the main script writers. It's almost like the Shining, amazing movie but not a great adaptation. Stephen King Himself didn't care for the film.
I haven't watched this yet but I hope a super chat corrects the guy (RMB?) Ian Malcolm does NOT die in the book, he is the protagonist of the 2nd book…
The problem with claims that Morbius is the most memed movie is that nobody actually watched the movie to get the references for the memes. Meanwhile Revenge of the Sith is just filled with memeable moments from start to finish!
Can I trade my kwong points for an all expenses paid trip jurassic park?
World was ok, fallen kingdom was absolute dogshit, Dominion was just shy of ok. In order 5, 2, 4.
I like this recent trend of MauLer and Frongo randomly giving Rags a hard time just because
The reason why they say the T-Rex had more fat is because they are trying to correct an error paleontologists were making referred to as "Shrink Wrapping." If you want to see a criticism of this you should look up "All Todays" which imagines what alien paleontologists might think of modern day creatures if they went off their bones alone with the same methodology as past paleontologists.
Jurassic Park is a great film… and it could have been better if it were also a great adaptation.
If somebody can run a marathon with one leg, just imagine how well they could do with two. If a movie can be a good movie while being a bad adaptation, just imagine how good it would be if they were accurate.
If being a good adaptation makes something a bad movie, then don't make a movie of it. If you want to make something like it but different, just call it something else entirely. Derivation is better than bastardization.
Watcher did a great subversion of Chekhov's gun. The gun wasn't the pay off, her former career was. Maika Monroe.
Maybe the MPower quote means break down the walls so all the women can get in, then rebuild it to keep all the nasty smelly men out before they stink up the joint with their farts.
The feathered dinosaur Obi-wan rides in episode 3 is called a Varacytl named Varaus. Varaus the Varacytl
C'mon guys, everyone knows it was the end of wrath of Khan when Kirk ran up to spock and Spock said "A surprise to be sure, but a welcome one" and then died from lead poisoning.
new POTA is pretty slept on imo
Best way to conceal a Chekov's Gun is to give it another payoff beforehand so you think they're done with it, so you accept that it might not ever show up again, but it makes sense that the device would persist into later scenes.
My fix for the "an alien busts through the ceiling but grandma pulls a shotgun" hypothetical is: have an earlier scene where the kids play with grandma's gun and she comes in giving an emotional thing about responsibility and understanding that life is fragile; and this scene is actually the payoff to an earlier thing where one of the kids likes violent games and guns but doesn't understand the reality of death. So at that point, the initial introduction "grandma has a shotgun and has seen someone die because of it" is primarily a payoff to the kid's story of "violence isn't fun and games" and a setup to "grandma's seen some shit", but the gun in and of itself doesn't need to be brought back because it already has a fulfilled purpose.
Going to Hot Fuzz, The Swan is an excellent example. It's introduced as a joke to illustrate how menial their village police duty is; and it also sets precedent for the "No luck catching them ___s, then?" >> "It's just the one, actually" that gets paid off later. So by the climax we've totally accepted that the Swan did its part and doesn't need to pop up again.
And then the Swan stops the bad guy.
TL:DR, if a Chekov's Gun is only a Chekov's Gun, it sticks out as a promise that we'll be looking for. If it's 2 or 3 things running at once, it's much more open-ended whether or not the Gun is finished with its part.
The adaptation argument brought up so often seems so inconsistent not because it is innately so but because, "when Invoked properly" it is often to highlight what could have been done better or what was underutilized or worse yet opted out of completely for a near wholly inferior product often not simply failing to carry forward the spirit of the work but bungling the hopes of that work in the future or worse yet maliciously abusing the work of your forefathers in favor of materialistic shortsighted and self absorbed egotism rather than servicing a loyal fan bases hopes for the future of the IP.
It's the intellectual equivalent of hooking a teenager on drugs by graduation time before the eyes of the parents who had such hopes for their grad school child.
A violation of a long term construction in-service a short-term earned buck in a market producing a deflated currency.
Its ok Rags, I also have no interest in the Planet of the Apes films and I saw one of them at the cinema. No idea which one and what happened in it. All I know is both Draco and Green Goblin Jr were in it…
Fallen Kingdom might be the worst movie I've ever seen in a theater. I don't understand how it made money at all. It should have killed the Jurassic franchise.
You're really gonna criticize the mom that covered her kids eyes during the most disturbing part of an otherwise fairly kid friendly movie? I see no issue with that whatsoever, that sounds like good parenting to me.
This is for you Rags. 🦞🫵🫶
[PREMINGER]
I've been bowing, I've been scraping
I've been lying like a rug
And for ten long years I've had to pay my dues
But today I am escaping
For the last gold has been dug
It was waiting there, so how could I refuse?
I'm returning home a hero
Who's discovered mighty wealth
And what better husband could a princess choose?
I'm the suitor who will suit her
Bring the kingdom back to health
And I'll wear the crown, for how could I refuse?
Raise every glass and rouse every cheer
Praise that the reign of Preminger is here
Master in charge of all that I see
All hail me
And by marrying the princess
I get all that I desire
Like a moat, an ermine coat and palace views
Even though she treats me coldly
It's a sign of inner fire
For inside she's thinking "How can I refuse?"
[NACK, spoken]
Right, except for this one little problem, boss
[PREMINGER, spoken]
Prince Boss to you!
[NACK, spoken]
Right, the queen decided to marry her off to the King of Dulcinea next week
[PREMINGER, spoken]
What? Making a decision without me? Who does she think she is?
[NICK, spoken]
Uh, the Queen?
[PREMINGER, spoken]
You simpering simpleton!
[NICK, spoken]
Well, she is the Queen. She's got a crown and a scepter and sits in her big fancy chair and always—
[PREMINGER]
Silencio!
No! I won't let go!
This peasant son won't turn and run because some reckless royal chose another beau
Ah!
It's a temporary setback
It's a momentary lapse
But conveniently my ego doesn't bruise
And the moment that I get back
I will show them who's the boss
You can bet your bullion there'll be no "I do's"
Yes, suppose the girl goes missing
So the king says "Au revoir"
Then I find her, bring her back and make the news
Then the queen will be so grateful
That she'll pledge the heir to moi
And I'll humbly tell her "How can I refuse?"
When our ceremony's over
I'll arise and take the throne
And that nitwit Anneliese can kiss my shoes
For the kingdom and the castle
Will be mine and mine alone
If the crown should fit, then how can I refuse?
[PREMINGER, NACK & NICK]
So get ready with the roses (So get ready with the roses)
And stand by with the champagne (And stand by with the champagne)
When you've got a brilliant plan you never lose (When you've got a brilliant plan you never lose)
Yes, before this chapter closes (Yes, before this chapter closes)
I'll be big as Charlemagne (He'll be big as Charlemagne)
It's a thankless job but how can I refuse? (It's a thankless job but how can he refuse?)
How can I refuse? (How can he refuse?)
53:37 The difference between the Novel and the Movie is that while they still deal with the same SciFi themes they interpret them in different ways. The source being a somewhat Horror monster tale of mans hubris while the film is more of an action and adventure where we get lost in the greatness of what we can do with science and progress.
You fool's! I'm still waiting for Superchat Catch-up for #220! DOOMERs hilarity must be revisited
Watch *Happy! from the SYFY channel*, it will save your life. Taken+Die Hard+Sopranos+Rick & Morty all in the Twilight Zone universe. Funny, offensive, anti-pc with a great plot; real character arcs. I've been leaving comments everywhere so many people will partake in it's glory.
Thank you for not piling on when rags made a little dig at young earth creationists. I like how mauler actively tries to keep it apolitical.
19:02 The singular thing I did like about Jurassic World was the script's emphasis that Hammomd Dinos tm. are not true dinosaurs: they are saurian/suchian/amphibian hybrids.
That is Michael Chricton's ghost intervening to fill a plothole regarding dinosaurs' scaled appearance.
However, I think it would have been fun if a human character encountered a biologically accurate dinosaur. It might be feathered, it might look dangerous. But what if this real dinosaur was not actively homicidal?
It would make an interesting statement if this true dinosaur behaved in the amoral way that animals do.
Who the hell recommended Camp Cretaceous to you
"They're like the Zerg of the Warhammer franchise."
My heart. Rags you wound me. Zerg are inspired by Tyranids.
Please guys do a the terror breakdown it’s so good !!!!! I will keep asking 😭🤌

Hey EFAP crew. Think you can make time for this? I think it's right up your alley.
