There are multiple long videos about this incident. A girl raised a goat for 4H. At the Fair it was auctioned off for slaughter. The girl wanted to keep it. The mom offered to pay and the buyer offered to let the girl keep the goat. The auction manager refused and said that the girl needed to learn a lesson. He reported the goat stolen and the police drove 500 miles to take the goat without a warrant. The animal was taken to slaughter. The only crimes that were committed were by the auction manager and the police.
Edit: the warrant was for a different location from where they seized the goat.

Everyone is hooked on this happening to a little girl.
How could they do this to a little girl, a child!
The fact is she was given the goat knowing it was not hers.
She was doing it for her 4H, learning about animals and such.
The animals feed and needs were paid for by the 4 H not the girl or her family.
The goat belonged to the fair.
She did what she was suppose to do and it survived. The fair then takes their property back at the appointed time.
Per the contract.
The child was upset that they were going to kill her goat, her now pet. The family tried to buy the animal.
The fair did not want to sell the goat.
It had plans for it at their BBQ. That’s what they bought it for.
They do not have to sell it to the girl at all.
Just like you don’t have to sell your cat to someone who wanted it and also took care of it knowing it was your cat but did so anyway.
You move, they want to have the cat and offer to pay you.
You can say no, the cat is not for sale.
That’s all they did.
The girl and her family stole someone else’s property.
They are lucky they are not in jail.
All these parents did was teach their child that if you don’t get what you want, take it.

She put her stuff up for auction and changed her mind. Frowned upon but allowed unless written into the contract with the auction hall. And the hall most likely has an agreement with the 4H organization. If u join 4H it is understood that ur animal will be killed if it wins. That's what farming is people. Raising crops or animals until they are fit for human consumption. If u wanted a pet u could have had one without joining 4H

following a rescue attempt she made after her daughter regretted putting the pet up for auction. (So they put that goat up for auction. Maybe they didn’t comprehend what they were giving up or what those people were going to do with that goat). Jessica Long had purchased the goat named Cedar in April 2022 for her 9-year-old daughter as part of a youth agricultural 4-H program. Animals purchased as part of the program are typically slated to be sold at the Shasta District Fair's livestock auction for meat. Long's daughter decided she wanted him back. Fair officials refused Long's entreaties to keep the goat despite her offer to offset the costs. (So they tried to buy the goat back the fair people refused to undue the deal with the goat).
Long then stole the goat, setting off a search involving law enforcement that spanned six counties and 500 miles, the length those cops went behind a pet goat is mind blowing just to kill it. The mom must’ve not read and understood the fair rules. Long's daughter, who fed Cedar every day and came to care for him like a pet, reportedly had a change of heart before bidding began and decided she wanted to keep the goat, but fair officials said allowing her to take Cedar back would go against the rules.Cedar's meat was sold on June 25 for $902 to a buyer representing Republican California state Sen. Brian Dahle, who is also a farmer and small business owner in the northern part of the state.
Of the $902 paid for Cedar, $63.14 was to go to the state fair while the remaining $838.86 was allotted to the goat's owners.
