  1. This is a game that will be amazing for a few months but won't last years in its current state. They will literally have to add twice as much as they currently have and implement drastic changes. Everyone saying they love the game haven't played many MMO'S.. Which is fine. But, this isn't that good of an MMO. If you aren't looking for that then you may like it. After level 30 and 40+ hours you realize there is no depth.

  2. "Fast travel to a point, walk for 200 years to the quest point" – You're playing wrong – Stack up numerous quests in the same area using the different mission boards to pad out your main story quests, so instead of 1 lame objective for a POI you have 4-6. Use your gathering skills along the way. If you are questing without gathering.. you've missed the point of the game. Half the rewards from questing are crafting and refining materials and a lot of those quest areas have a specific material you'd want, so the quest serves as a mechanism to introduce you to it.

It is still a weak story but having it all voiced definitely helps. The MSQ and explanation of what is actually going on is cool, but definitely, they'll need to develop that over time.

The combat gets better if you read what things do. If you are annoyed at getting interrupted then you need to focus on abilities with "Grit", Sidestep rotationally before you attack (hit their side), or get some range. Spear weapon type does great at this – The style talents really make you jab-dodge-jab-dodge. Not gonna lie though, if this were a "tab target auto attack" type game I would love it more.

  3. its a running simulator really boring gimmick combat, lacks the spark that wow or ff14 have, was hoping it was good but just wasted money on garbage guess ill level alts in wow on different covenants till 9.1.5

  4. unfortunately it looks like the gear score and spec gatekeeping is bleeding over from wow and infecting NW already. ie, if you don't have max level great axe and war hammer gtfo and you will be replaced in the limited 50 man roster.

  5. I think has issues but in terms of an MMO launch it is in a far better state then most recent AAA MMOs at launch. Yes it has massive server issues but it doesn't need a complete overhaul of its core gameplay and systems like ff14,ESO and Destiny did. Servers can always be added but gameplay isn't so easy so for an MMO to launch in a state with gameplay this solid I am happy and I hope it finds success.

  6. So far, in both Beta and Live: I have utterly adored the Combat, I have loved the gathering and crafting, and appreciate how they structured the game economy.
I am cautiously optimistic about about the PVE content like quests and dungeons. Right now, it's not great; "PVE" is the games weakest point.
But, the game is brand new, and keeping some context: Look at were FF14 and ESO PVE was at this stage of their life cycles (both were scrapped and reworked, they were so bad); I know their is room for improvement. Because it is a live service MMO, I suspect that area will be developed much further.
As for PVP, it's solid. Small scale skirmish's are fun, and I've always enjoyed capture and defense of territory systems design.

I think on the topic of combat, we will see two camps: Love or hate.
For me, the Sword & Shield; and Spear resonated most. I've also enjoyed Bow and Ice Gauntlet during testing.

But, my New World character does not play like my 14 Summoner, it does not play like my WOW Druid. The feeing I get is much more similar to my GW2 Guardian and Druid, or my ESO DK.
I have always disliked WOW and 14's Combat because of the large number of skills, usually macro-ing out some of the complexity in WoW. I don't need or want 20-30 skills to track.
My preference has always been designs like ESO and GW2, where a large number of options are available. But only a small number of skills are allowed on the bar at any time. This places importance on player choice and priority in play styles. While also expanding the rock-paper-scissors consideration when playing in PVP.

But, only having 6 sills can feel very confining to people who prefer 20-30 skills. There is no getting around that.

  7. as a sword and board/musket player I am just getting burnt out of this game, every session feels shorter with the lack of variety of content this game has. i thought it would be fun to explore, chart landmarks, gather mats and then craft new stuff, but so many game systems do not support this way of playing (spread inventory in towns, crafting being majority in towns, the questing).

I am not getting that unexplored "new world" vibe, which, to be fair, was an expectation I've set for the game and not one the game devs may have had in mind, but it is still kind of annoying that in a game where the main aesthetic/thematic inspiration is the age of discovery, everything feels like it has already been discovered and we're just here to do some busywork.

  8. Worst part of NW for me is skills. After 10 weapons level all what's left for me is some minor passive skills, which doesn't change much so I'm stuck with same 6 skills to level cap and it's kinda depressing. And overall combat is too basic. I can farm tons of mobs in BDO or PSO2NG, because combat is fun, but in NW it's so boring

  9. I've put about 50 hours in. Engaged with the questing, gathering and crafting and pvp. And I am quitting strictly because the questing experience. Everything feels fleshed out and good except the questing. Walking 3Km to turn in a quest, then 3km back to the spot I just was is just to much. Fast travel points are not very helpful unless you are defending a fort. There's only 3 enemy types: skeletons, corrupted, and animals. All the subgenres of of enemy types share the same mechanics. Example, the wolf's and ferals cats have the same moveset, as do the skeleton warriors and skeleton pirates. In order to engage with all the other wonderful elements any further I need to level up and the only reliable way is to quest grind. I'll try again in the future when they hopefully flesh it out more.

  10. Fire staff sucks, because of cast time on every spell except Fireball. You want to cast Pillar of Fire on enemy, but they always manage to run away from extremely small AOE ring, before casting ends. Incenirate is some kinda of a joke. It should push enemy from me, to create distance. But currently it's too short, enemy gets to back to me in a second. Also this spell has casting time, so I get hit by enemy anyway. Flamethrower is a disgrace to all flamethrowers in universe. It's more like "cutting torch", because of distance of attack. Meteor Shower is only usable in party with tanks taking aggro. Hammer, bow and axe have better "magic spells" – Shockwave, Path of Destiny, Rain of Arrows (7 meters AOE with 150% + 80% bleeding for 12 seconds !) , Gravity well (10m, 125%) and they don't have cast time.

  11. Boring game, albion online with AAA budget, no punishment system or mandatory pvp, core mechanics are still the same. Mortal Online 2 does everything this game does, but with actual punishment. Gear has value, but in New World, there is no stakes or value to armor once everyone has a set.

  12. New World sucks.

Bad enemy AI (worst I’ve seen in awhile)
    Bad quests/lore/no depth
    Terrible animations.
    Choppy/laggy gameplay with 75-100 fps.
Upcoming p2w in a year, already leaked.

ESO does everything better than New World.

  13. Why do ya'll keep comparing it to DMC, when you can compare it to other action-combat MMO such as GW2 or Tera?
The combat is dogshit even compared to those.
It's not just bad if you compare it to god action game like DMC… lol

  14. Judging from reviews and comments… its a very niche game that seems fairly popular at the moment… that won't last. Not my style of game but I wish the game well for the niche crowd they're going for.

  15. I dunno why aren't people telling it like it is? It's a shit barebone game, we crushed more established games for way way less issues than this barren empty shell of a game, it has an extreme potential yes, but currently, it's not even a game….

  16. I struggle to see what the end game is. Enjoying the gathering and crafting, combat and questing is dull. Storyline is absent. Dont know what im working towards other than max level.

  17. I am having fun playing this game so far, leveling slowly, keeping professions up to date farming a lot, just doing what comes to mind. I like sandbox games so this is pretty nice.
I don't want to rush to 60 cause i know once i hit 60 i will be done with the game within a few days.
Leveling weapons is super slow and a pain in the ass. I would love to try out more combos but not willing to level any other weapons.
Dungeons are pretty basic and boring pvp is pretty fun, sadly most players will never get a chance to participate in a war cause companies will most likely only pick their 50 best (highest best geared) players.

There is no incentive to join the weak faction. I think most servers will end up with 1 faction dominating or 2 factions fighting each other and 1 meme faction with frustrated players.

The best part of this game is the crafting and gathering (they really nailed that) + gearing, the rest feels half baked.

after 80+ hrs so far i would rate it a 7/10.
And ofc it is by far the most beautiful mmo that ever existed.

Too bad AGS dropped the LOTR mmo… this could have been a great foundation for that game.

  18. ff14's tiring MSQ is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay more boring then anything ive played in my life.
New World nails all the systems you can level with. Ye maybee there are some minor bugs still, but you can;t say the game has no depth. SOme of the comments here claims to be high level lol. Play a bit more and try all the systems before you state opinions as facts that something IS boring or that "isnt working for a lot of people". You know what it works for a lot of people and the potential of this game is huge. Its out for a few weeks. Third world problems eh.

  19. My biggest issue with combat is I run to a new area and get distracted by the trees and ore in the area. Before I know it, my bag is full and I head back to the town.

  20. Minion/Creep/Character block in dungeons is very annoying as well. The character models get stuck on each other very easily. You'll find yourself getting stuck against walls as melee very often if you have melee dps. Also most bosses have repetitive move combinations that usually fall a line of Stun -> One shot ability that is supposed to be dodgeable but isn't because you're stuck against a wall/pillar/bricks on the ground. Not very fun or interactive.
