To be honest I don't like stanford (the author ) for the reason that he is so selfish
He cared so much about his research and sucess that the moment stan (involuntary) went in his way to greatness
He let his twin brother who where here for him so long got abandoned to poverty
And after 10 YEARS , 10 FRICKING year , the only reason he contacted him ( which implied he could have contacted him all along ) was because he wanted him to go away to the other half of the world for him (knowing stanford , he was likely to figure out he gave up everything just to reach him
And after the accident, it took 30 year for him (Stanley) to save his brother, he gave up anything he had left (even his identity) to help him return . And most of all after all that he didn't even thank him and wanted to get rid of him again
I like how fored saw that peanut chip on the ground and immediately assume it was his brother, like, his brother is the only one who eats that snack
Stan had every right to nervous in the beginning because those two where defiantly going to be mad a him especially dipper.remember the finger cross thing

I remember how agonising the wait was between NWHS and ToTS. Never been invested into a mystery plot as much as Gravity Falls.
Nice nice, now as always here are some fun facts for both episodes.
Not What he Seems: This episode went through many cut/deleted content. One of the biggest changes left out an important item that many fans wondered about. Originally Dipper and Mabel was supposed to be detained in an old abandon school, where they are waiting for CPS to pick them up. They see Stan's arrest on TV and that's how they think about the security tapes at the Mystery Shack, Prompting them to escape. It's then Dipper uses the President's Key he got from the episode "Irrational Treasure" to unlock the door out of the room they were being held in. But due to episode length they had to scrap that scene, and change it to Manly Dan ramming the car off the road.
A tale of two Stans: There are several references in this episode that you may have missed. Things from the previous episodes. For example when they show young Mcgucket, you can see the laptop that was found in the bunker, and the one that Bill ended up destroying. Also, if you have been wondering, the password to the laptop is: Stanford.
Another thing is that when Stanley was going to get food, the place he went to is the same convivence store from the episode "Inconveniencing". The two ghosts from the episode are alive right there.
A third thing is that when we see Ford's project, right next to it we see one called "Footbot", which was made by Stanley. Now if you remember the episode "The Bottomless Pit" remember Stan's story about him winning the football and he introduced Footbot? That was a huge call back to that.
And like always there's some deleted content. Like Ford Dismissing Mcgucket's concerns as "Dimensional Travel Sickness."
After Starting the Mystery Shack they were going to show Stanley faking his death. But also, some Mafia figure reads about the death in the newspaper and shows some satisfaction from it, indicating that Stan may have gotten on the bad side of some wrong people.
Small thing, Ford originally was supposed to have a beard.
Finally, there was supposed to have a different ending showing Ford going to sleep, and having a dream. But i'm not going to spoil what it is as it'll have more spoilers.
You should watch Ducktales (2017)! It’s really similar to this and is absolutely top tier!!

Notice Ford’s comment on McGucket making personal computers at 22:59. A common flaw of Ford is that when he is onto something big, he often overlooks other peoples potential achievements. McGucket very likely would have been the next Apple since laptops didn’t exist yet, but Ford considered that unimportant.
How did Stanley know that Gideon wasn't really psychic?
Because Gideon always calls him "Stanford." If he could read minds, he would've known that was wrong.
What I think is really cool is that the symbol burned into Stanley's back is the focus of a full episode of the Gravity Falls shorts! In which Dipper and Mabel try to see what Stanley is hiding on his back.

These may be the two most important episodes of the whole series. I remember watching 'Not What He Seems' and constantly juggling between not trusting Stan but also desperately wanting to know the truth and wanting to see what this portal was! It was a tense moment. Its also the first time gravity fell in 'Gravity Falls'. The Tale of Two Stans may be one of the most perfect episodes I've ever seen in a show. It had backstory, callbacks, drama, regret, funny moments, and it explained basically everything we were all questioning. It was very satisfying! Now you're in the know 🙂

If you wanna know what Journal Author Stanford was up to in the portal for 30 years, get a real canon exact copy of Journal 3. But there are 2 versions though. A common version with only the visible text, with his backstory and discoveries, and limited black light invisible ink special editions Journal 3s that are almost exactly like the canon book in the show, but they are extremely rare and probably extremely expensive.
Stanfords adventures are all documented in the physical copy of Journal 3!!The ones before and during the portal incident.The problem is that it has a lot of spoilers from the end of the series, but once you finish it you can give it a check!!

The family ages don't make a whole lot of sense. Stan spends 30 years trying to bring back Ford. Before that, they hadn't seen each other for ten years. The night Stan gets kicked out, we see Shermie, Dipper and Mabel's grandfather, as a baby. If that was really 40 years ago, then Shermie had grandkids at 28. It's possible that's another sibling who's unimportant (although if that's the case why did they show the baby) OR it's actually one of Dipper and Mabel's parents but if that's the case, where is Shermie??

I’m on Stans side 100%. Stan got kicked out when he was barely 18 for an accident. He didn’t mean to break the machine and really the only thing he could’ve realistically done differently is telling Ford about it when it happened, he didn’t deserve to be disowned by his whole family. Then, the first and only time he will see his brother in the next 50 years his brother tells him to get as far away as possible and tries to beat him up! Then he spends the next 30 years of his life trying to get his brother back, he opens his arms for a hug, and what does his brother do? BEATS HIM UP AGAIN! Stan became a criminal and a scammer as a means of survival and his desperate want to be accepted by his family. And while Ford wasn’t able to go to his dream school he was still able to pursue his life’s passion and THAT is when he should’ve reached out to Stan. Then after Stan saves Ford from the portal FORD INVENTED he is nothing but cold towards him. And Stan is right, Ford IS dangerous for the kids. He’s always known so, that’s why he wanted to keep dipper away from his research. On top of that, his family starts acting like Ford is the best thing that’s ever happened to them while Stan tries his best to provide for them. I love Stan.
